Here's the trailer....

Personally, i'm excited. The art style looks nice, the figures look well made, and the sandbox mode might be fun if done right. It would be pretty cool to see Dipper and Mabel as playable characters.

I'm glad for this if only because some good competition might actually make Activision *GASP* lower Skylander prices instead of hiking them even more.

Supply and demand, doll! The only way Acti will lower the prices is if Skylanders is no longer a hot property.

They'd have to lower prices if this Disney thing takes off. If they want to stay hot property and keep kids from moving on to the next best thing they'd have to stay competitive. If this Disney thing becomes the next hot Christmas product this year they best way to keep parents buying is to lower the prices. There may be heavy supply and demand right now but that could change by the end of the year.

So this is basically Skylanders by Disney. I'm wondering when Disney started developing this. I'd say it had to well before SSA came out. So the Disney figures are just like Skylanders the worlds are just like skylanders what do the disks do? Are they like expansion packs or special power items? We all knew somebody had to compete with skylanders at some point, but this seems to be a total copy of what skylanders did. That turns me off to it but I guess if the kids are interested ill be forced to buy in. Although I'd say there will be severe limits put on purchases for this. No hunting or full character collecting on this one.

Ugh, no way I'm buying this. Total copy of Skylanders. Plus, it seems like a generic free roaming game, which doesn't really interest me. Sure I love the characters, but still, I'm not buying it. I love Disney and all, but it sucks that they had to copy skylanders. Ah well, let's hope skylanders won't die out because of this, personally, I don't think they will because the skylanders are much cooler than Disney characters, and I don't think older kids (pre teens) will go for the disney game, but little kids will...

Skylanders doesn't have:

  • 4 player online co-op
  • 2 player split screen local play
  • Toy Box mode: co-op Little Big Planet/Minecraft creation mode
  • 2 special items per character

Disney is already doing a lot of what should have been in Skylanders Giants.

And have you every been to Disneyland? Disney/Marvel/Star Wars appeal to people of all ages.

This game doesn't seem to have levels that have clear goals in mind, boss battles, and stuff to collect.

Also, I hear your characters can only play in their respective worlds. Sucks already.

There are playsets for each respective world that are structured games with traditional levels.

There's a Toy Box mode where you could create and download your own levels and play with characters from every world.

And you know what sucks? No online play, max 2 player co-op, no split screen, no downloadable levels and only 8-10 hours of gameplay - that's Giants.

What Disney is doing with Infinity is pretty great. Hopefully Toys for Bob/Activision step up their game for Skylanders 3.

Well, to be fair, the first Skylanders was longer than Giants.

Maybe they will make the third game longer than Giants was. They do need online and they do need to keep Adventure Packs coming with each game, while still allowing you to use your Adventure Packs in each new game.

If TFB doesn't heed our advice, things can get rough, and another franchise from Activision will be ruined. smilie

This is still very different from Skylanders. Infinity seems to be an amalgamation of smaller experiences and a robust creation mode while Skylanders is based on a singular, larger Campaign mode and Battle mode.

What TFB needs to do to continue the success of Skylanders and to further differentiate itself from Infinity:

  • Create a larger campaign mode. Bring back adventure packs like GM suggested, maybe downloadable levels.
  • 2 player local, up to 4 player online co-op. If they could do 4 player local that would be great, but I'd imagine new portals would be needed
  • 1v1 local and 1v1, 2v2 online battle mode with online rankings and tournaments
  • 2 player local, up to 4 player online - arena co-op mode. Endless enemy waves.

How was I being rude? You said it was a complete ripoff, and it's not. The only thing they really share are the base toys + portal concept.

And of course I'm for Skylanders. My son and I went from the Giants Starter Kit for the Wii U to now owning all SSA figures, all currently released SG figures, SSA Starter for the PS3, SSA and SG Starter Kits for the 3DS, iOS Starter Kit, all Sidekicks, all Legendaries and all easily attainable variants.

With that said, as a fan you can't be blind to what the series lacks. If we don't demand more from the developers, we'll just keep getting the same game year after year.

The unfortunate thing about this series is that its going to pull away a lot of the Skylanders fanbase and those of us who don't buy into the game will probably buy a figure of our favorite Disney characters. I know I'll be buying a Buzz Lightyear if I see one. The part that I hate is that if this came about just a few years earlier, I could potentially have gotten a set of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers for Infinity. So close, yet so far away...

So you want all the figures to just be Wreck-it-Ralph? Monsters University isn't even out yet.

And again, then only thing these two games really have in common is the Toys + Portal idea, and even that is different in several ways. The games are different enough that they can co-exist.

I am slightly convinced about buying Disney Infinity, but certain things hold me back.

Everyone keeps saying there are levels with objectives. However, everything I've read about Infinity, doesn't mention how levels will play out.

On the other hand, this game impresses me, because it's doing what I wanted TFB to do with Skylanders, it would give me a lot of "Magical Items."

I always wanted each Skylanders game to give me Magical Items to build a collection of. However, with Giants, I only got 2 (4 if you count two recolors that do the same thing).

Stacking coins (Magical Items) onto the figures is neat.

However, I "WOULD" be more impressed by Skylanders, if they released around 8 Magical Items per game, so I could build a bigger collection.

I just hope this makes TFB want to 1up Infinity, should it release once a year as well. To do that, they need only do these things -

1: The same amount of levels, or more, as Spyro's Adventure
2: Add their own little open world aspect (hey, Disney stole the idea of Skylanders from TFB, so borrow ideas as well)
3: Release Adventure Packs with every new game
4: Give Skylander fans lots of Magical Items to play with
5: Nightmare Mode available from the start
6: Online CO-OP and PVP.
7: Longer levels, while making elemental areas hard to find (ie no elemental symbols on the ground or in a bubble to show where they are)

If TFB can do this, they can stay competitive and keep chugging out Skylanders.

Yea I'd also have liked more magical items in Giants, they haven't put out a single adventure pack besides the weapon pet things. I don't even use them much as they can be unpredictable compared to Ghost Swords and the original magical items which was awesome.

One thing I wish TFB would do for the next Skylanders game, is allow players to tailor the game to the challenges they want to face.

Imagine if you wanted to go through Nightmare with level 1 Skylanders and only their starting abilities, so there is an option to turn off XP. Also, you could turn off food if you wanted, that way you had to complete each level with level 1 Skylanders who have no access to food, giving us hardcore gamers a REAL challenge.

If they didn't want to add the options for those two things into the game, which it would ask you before you start a Nightmare file, they could always make a new difficulty level and call it Game Master Mode. smilie

Very interested in Disney Infinity, but not sure I can cope with paying for Skylanders and that. Although the Disney game seems more like something where we'd only buy characters that appealed to us, rather than getting them all. The coins idea is something I'd been thinking of since Skylanders was released. I've long had a vision of a game that encourages kids to do more exercise by rewarding them for it in bonuses to video game characters.

Create an app for a mobile phone and make a compact bluetooth nfc device that "coins" can be clipped into. The app tracks your distance travelled and stores that information on the coin. When the coin is attached to a figure, the data is used to give you bonuses to boost the character's power.

Why people complain this is a rip off... When you create a very interressing idea people will copy it, deal with it. Activision wasn't the only one who hav a gimmick music franchise game(guitar Hero), EA did one (rock band). It happen all the time. When a publisher show a new gimmick, challenger will appears sometime better than the last. That the life cycle of capitalism competition

With plenty of news out now I can say that I am very excited for this. I am sad that I will not be buying Skylanders 3 but it was good while it lasted. I will still finish my collectionfor Giants though as it still looks great on the shelf.

Anyway my opinion:

Disney Infinity:
Pros:
Toy box mode looks immense
Multiplayer online
Community generated content
No set gameplay time as a new set adds 6 hours [approx] game time
Varied gameplay with each playset (variety keeps the game fresh)
Established characters and brands (stronger feeling to purchase certain characters)

Cons:
Varied gameplay with each playset (there will be at least one playset that you will not like)
Established characters and brands (nothing to suprise you)
More expensive than Skylanders

If Skylanders ever was 4 player online, they would need to make the game very challenging to make up for all the damage 4 Skylanders are doing to enemies. They would need to go old school hard.

Even with 2 players who know what they're doing, they can make short work of the Skylanders single player campaign. Giants doesn't benefit from its lack of new Adventure Packs, that's for sure.

I still don't see anything, or see any links suggesting Infinity has traditional levels with objectives and bosses.

Okay, I saw the FGTV article, and I can say I am impressed and sold on Infinity. However, I will never do with it, what I will keep doing for Skylanders, which is buy multiple characters per game. 1 of each will be fine.

HOWEVER, I will say this. Infinity is doing - and impressing me - what I wanted TFB to do with Skylanders all along. It seems each Playset IS OPEN WORLD! I kept imagining how awesome it would be if Skylanders was an open world game, where you could travel to levels by - let's say - Flynn's boat, but at the same time, missions can be gotten from people walking around the world, or quests.
