I can see my youngest daughter (3 Yrs old) being able to relate to potential figures from the princess' toy line. Cruse you Disney!!

Throw in Star wars and Marvel characters then you've got the adults covered. Curse you again Disney!!

I do feel sad that Nintendo is still in denial mode with this the toy-video game model. The Pokemon franchise would be a perfect fit. The fact that Disney is getting into it means that it is becoming a very profitable model.

No, no, no.... The figures are NOT blind bagged. They'll be in their own boxes, a la 'Landers.

There are ability/upgrade/extra coins which will be blind-bagged. In order to give players variety. You buy a few, open them, and maybe see what they do. You can trade them with others if you wish/can find someone. TRy out two at once. Stack powers.

Either way, I'm waiting on Lion King and Aristocats mainly. Though, I may have to pick up the starter pack...

The Disney Infinity Platform includes:

Disney Infinity Interactive Pieces – Initially a line of 40 collectible interactive pieces will be introduced that allow players to expand and customize their play experiences.
Disney Infinity Interactive Character Figures – Seventeen character figures will allow players to experience a variety of their favorite characters in true to property experiences and in “Toy Box” mode.
Disney Infinity Base – When figures are placed on the Infinity base, they unlock the world and play experiences of Disney Infinity.
Disney Infinity Power Discs – Interactive discs can be placed on the Infinity base to power up characters and “Toy Box” with unique powers, customizations and gadgets.

Disney has also released the initial pricing information for these elements:

Starter Pack: $74.99
Play Set Pack: $34.99
Disney Infinity Figure: $12.99
Figure 3-Pack: $29.99
Power Disc Pack: $4.99

I'll be getting the game, though my wife maybe the one that will be collecting everything for it if she has her way (which because I am doing so with Skylanders, means she will get her way smilie )

Gah, this is like Rock Band vs. Guitar Hero all over again. So many accessories, so much space needed, so much money spent - at least the games are significantly different so hopefully the market can support both platforms.

I want to know if this game will have levels like Skylanders? If - and I mean IF - I buy this game, it has to have some kind of challenge with it. I just don't want to buy characters and packs and play a big sandbox game that doesn't have much to do, collect, or fight.

Another thing is, I can see this being more scalped than Skylanders. At the same time, I hope that means scalpers get the heck away from Skylanders, so us fans can buy our landers.

Disney also owns Marvel Comics and all of its properties. With the recent movie attention and the near infinite amount of characters and existing storylines.

If they use the skylander concept right it could be amazing

I forgot about Marvel! LOL.

I think one thing Activision has going for them is they've got 2 games already out. If they stutter on innovation (Hello!? Online PVP please) then that could be it for this franchise!

Disney might has some patent or intellectual property issues with having figures work their game since obviously Activision owns the rights to the tech (I could be wrong). I think Disney's intellectual property is also too big to fit in one single game. An MMO game using the video game-toy model should be the right platform to cover all their franchises with the ability to expand on later franchises and properties.

Ex. They could release a game that starts with a couple of Disney worlds (latest and most popular franchises) and later expand it cover additional worlds.

The possibilities are endless and they've got the infrastructure in place to market and distribute it already.

im with you on this one buddy activision/tfb and blizzard own the tech for this could be a big law suit for disney which i hop there is lol i love disney cartoon films but hate the franchise far to expensive its a scalpers shop lol

I'm not so sure about that. Rfid is a wide spread tech that Activision does not own the rights to. So the patent would have to be about adding the chip to a toy. Im doubt they really own anything here as far as the tech. And I am sure Disney's Legal team looked into this before spending this much cash on a project.

skylanders seriously need to add online coop and online pvp.

the new skylanders 3 should have these specs to stay on top of the game:
- much bigger worlds
- more content
- character side missions
- hats found carry to all difficulties
- progressive dmg modifications to character that make you hit harder instead of just getting a new power to play with
- up to 4 players can play at once (offline and online)
- pvp online mode 1vs1, 2vs2, 3vs3 (in all game modes)
- allow for split screen in coop story mode; instead of being rubber-banded to the screen (reference current lego games split screen)
- an online only mode (you can go online in an online world like the flash game but across all networks (360, ps3, wii, wii u) to do fun stuff. [ability to show off characters etc.]

I'd most likely get this, especially if has Star Wars, Avengers, Capt Jack and Belle & Beast. It could be interesting plus it would be fun to play with the family, which is why I ordered Skylanders.

And if they have Stitch it would be a first day purchase.

This is my question too. The game just seems like endless nonsense with no real direction. There is only so much "customization" you can do before it just becomes monotony.

Also the price point for the figures is right where I expected it. People will pay a premium just because it is Disney. The price point is a major profit for them and if they ever had to discount them, they wouldn't lose anything. I have seen it with other Disney collectables.

SKylanders...I am going to have to bid you adieu in June...sorry. But you won't be able to compete with the Disney juggernaut. I love the idea of a giant sandbox to play in and level create, an online component and so much versatility and most likely high end refinement. Skylanders will have met it's match...sorry to say. But this is what will be their demise. Team Infinity!!! *jumps ship*

I noticed. And the 30 dollar 3 packs, and the 5 dollar tokens. I am fine with that. It's about a quality product that has longevity. I look forward to a game that goes beyond being good, but hopefully great. Disney can throw money at this thing and even take a loss to start out. I would imagine though they'll be collectible far beyond Skylanders. We all have realized the value of Skylanders is pretty nil after the first iteration, but you can hand down these figures to your grandchildren as they will still have some nostalgia value down the road. I am excited for this. If they make a battle system for fighting your characters online. I think now is the time for kids to start rethinking what they want to invest their money they save on. More kids are gonna be buying Infinity over Skylanders come June as the hype builds up. The Infinity Train is COMING! Get on board!!! CHOO CHOO!!!

I think that just like Skylanders, they will release more and more figures over time in future games and releases. They realize that they have to cater to the younger kids who are into Cars and the newer Pixar stuff, but will give us adults some staples we grew up with. I think I'll be collecting only those I really want and if I love the gameplay, I'll be buying whatever I find. I know it will be a money suck, but I am gonna keep my eyes on this game's development up till launch. I am hoping they do expansion content too like they do with most games nowadays...and not constantly release brand new games.

They will do that for sure once the game has proven itself. The last thing Disney would want is to use are characters that the potential demographic might have a hard time relating to. I'm sure a lot of time and effort was involved in selecting the initial characters plus we've yet to see the complete line up.

Interesting, very interesting.

Pros:

-Has a nearly endless supply of characters to use. Collecting will never get dull.
-Much more freedom and versatile modes than Skylanders (although we would have to see what's brought to the table for the 3rd game.)
-My friends who are on the fence with Skylanders would likely jump on this easier because of the familiarity of characters.
-A BIG plus is that jumping on board with this will be a smart investment for the future because this seems to have a big chance to outlive the Skylanders franchise.

Cons:

-Another money sink (but hey, if you enjoy it, is it really a sink?)
-Character models don't look amazing. Jack Sparrow is one of my favorite Disney characters, but even in regards to that fact I prefer the Skylanders unique artsyle rather than the cartoony Infinity style. (They also look rather cheap. I must physically hold one to judge.)
-Like others have mentioned, is this just a sandbox game or is there some sort of objective based challenges/ an upgrade system? I think an upgrade system with the characters is the BIGGEST factor for me and will sway my decision on if I want to buy this or not.

This game is limitless, and alas because of the Disney name it has the propensity to quell the Skylanders franchise forever if it's good enough and if the next Skylanders game doesn't shake up the formula. My only certainty is that I am buying the 3rd Skylanders game whenever that comes out and I will keep a sharp eye on Infinity.

I will keep my eye out for this game because I need to know if there are goal systems as well as character progression, while at the same time being slightly more conservative about my future Skylander purchases, for I am wary on where this great franchise will stand a year from now. (Note I am still supporting Skylanders! I just won't be completely gung-ho about my purchases, which I promised myself I would do regardless of Disney Infinity.)

Now for the question I know everyone is dying to ask; Nintendo, the ball is in your court, when are you taking the shot?

Edit: Just saw that you are only allowed to play with a character within their respective universe and can't intermingle between series' like the trailer portrays; Point Skylanders. Now all they have to announce is that there is no character progression saved on the figures and I'm off this hype train.

I will reserve complete judgement on this until we see how the game play is. They can have all of the characters in the world, but if the game isn't fun, it's all for naught. And this is coming from a HUGE Disney fan. All of that said, I'm extremely optimistic about how it's going to turn out. Although my favorites are not included in the first iteration (apparently), I'm up for collecting them all and waiting patiently for the ones I'd REALLY dig to drop.

I can understand where Xerokills is coming from, but this probably does not mean the end of Skylanders for me. I really enjoy the lighthearted play, as well as the characters, and it sounds like these may well be two different gaming experiences. For the forseeable future, I plan on being in on both franchises, as well as their companies continue to do them justice.

I guess to me...if I have to choose one...and both have enjoyable experiences, I will choose Disney. Just haven't been able to fully identify with the characters as easily as I would Disney. I as well reserve judgement, but right now my money is being held for Infinity and not Skylanders 3. Lets just say that.

Same here, if the Skylanders formula doesn't evolve, and what they have promised with Infinity turns out great, I'd probably go with Disney if I had to choose one. Luckily we don't have to, but I'd definitely put more effort into collecting Disney figurines. I love the idea of playsets though as the ideas are endless. For example:

This X 100 (lol playing in the worlds of other characters was what i was looking at this game for so that makes it a no buy for me, unless there is an cool upgrad system that saves to the figuers. If not they just lost me on it.)
