i'm glad for this. if skylanders has no direct competition (like now) the games will just get more and more crappy.

Nah. No chance. I think people massively overestimate the popularity of Disney characters if they think that those are what kids want more than the top-selling toy franchise of the past year, which is incidentally already outselling Disney's greatest action figure IP in Star Wars. I'm sure it will do fine; there's certainly a crowd for it. They're a little late to the game to truly capture kids' imagination, and Disney hasn't historically had the strongest video games to begin with, so quality can't be ignored as a potential issue. They'll try, but ultimately be Digimon to Skylanders, which has already become the Pokemon of the 2010s.

This is war and they will lose!

Disney has Star Wars, and Marvel, and enough money to buy Activision if they wanted to.....

I think that it is up to TFB, and Activision here. After you 100% Skylanders games, you can play battle mode, or level up characters. But it starts to get into a Grind mode pretty quickly. From the looks of Disney's product having the Little Big Planet type of build and sharing of levels, this would give the game a much longer play time. And by that encourage more people to become collectors than casual players.

Skylanders getting online PvP, as has been talked about here alot, would only be one part of the equation. Not all players want to play Street Fighter with their Skylanders. Some want that LBP run around type of thing, but are not going to want to play the same 16 levels over and over with online friends.

Time will tell but Activision is going to decide the future with the next game. Will it go WoW or Guitar Hero depends on if they can extend playtime past the core levels enough to satisfy.

Experience in Game Making
All most infinite amount of characters
More Customization

We may lose this battle, but ether way, I'm getting it with skylanders 3

Disney has an infinite amount of characters as well. Besides the literally hundreds they already have they will put out another movie or two each year that adds to the available supply.

Skylanders added 16 this time. Bringing the total of playable to 48. If they add 16 more for a third game and come to 64, Disney still already has that available.

I am not including Star Wars, Marvel, Disney Princess to this because I just do not see it happening here.

Edit: Just to address your 1st 3 points, Disney has a much larger fan base. Plenty of experience in the same aspects Skylanders has. And home field advantage isn't enough to mean anything in todays world.

Wreck-It-Ralph made it, so that's about 10% more fans, and the Pirates of Carribean made it, so about 40% more fans. Monster Inc, 20%, and the Incredibles, about 20%, PLUS the fact that the game appeals to little kids AND hardcore Disney fans, so you have a HUGE fan base.

Disney is just taking Skylander's idea, smooshing them into coin form, and putting characters that probably all have their own video games already.

Only way I'm getting this game is if they bring in Totoro... Other than that, this game is dead to me. Never liked it, since it was announced.

Yes, Figures. The coins seem to emulate the Heroic Challenges, Or Persephone of Skylanders and not the actual Characters.

theres 2 types of coins,
the hexagon are different worlds the characters go into, which are based on the characters... like toy story or pirates.
the other coins are round and are power ups and you stack them under the figures.

Yes I believe that's used to play in different levels.

if the fix skylanders main issues like way more lvls, personal character talk betwin cut scenes, more lvls to lvl up , online feture(confirmed), cheaper characters etc... can leave skylanders to heavy lose players and buyers.

Of course you guys say that disney infinity doesn´t stand a chanse, this is a skylanders forum...

Now that this has been announced, it will be interesting to see if Activision/Toys for bob can show something more cool at Toy fair in February. Since now they have competition.

It's not exactly a threat to Skylanders. For starters; the characters. We already know who the characters are and people already have characters that they do/don't like. It's not like Skylanders where we're introduced to a bunch of new characters and have no idea what they're personality, back story, how they play in the game ETC. With Infinity, we pretty much know that Sully and Mr Incredible are going to be brawlers, Cpt. Jack is going to be a slash and dash character ETC.

The only that I really find original with this game is the sandbox mode which, despite looking pretty good, won't tempt me to buy it at all. The issue with this kind of game is that people will only ever have one series. It's far too expensive if every year people buy both Skylanders and Infinity and the new figures for each game. Skylanders was here first, so it will always sell much better.

Now, saying that, we could be at the situation where people stop getting Skylanders at all because they want to get Infinity instead and can only afford one a year. It could happen one day, but it probably won't happen any time soon since how many people have put money into Skylanders since it's release. It also kind of depends of much they're selling each figure for. I can imagine they'd want to make them cheaper than Skylanders so they're more appealing but I can also imagine that they would be producing them at a loss (since they appear larger than regular-landers).

...When this comes out I can just imagine how pissed off the game retailers are gonna be though. Game cases take up considerably less space than the figures - so what do you do when you have 2 sets of figures that everyone wants to buy? You have less room for the discs and such.

It depends on their game... if there isn't enough content there will be no reason to buy all the characters. I've already read that you can only take certain characters into certain areas, sounds like a bad idea there...
