Friend of mine at Gamestop showed me the contents of today's shipment and they're getting in the sidekicks. Well, they have the names up of the sidekicks, and they're the frito lays sidekicks. He is letting me see them personally when they arrive in a few, just to confirm. Crisis averted for those who didn't want to spend 30 bucks.

This is great news...no unnecessary buying of duplicate stuff I'd never be able to resell at retail value.

I posted this yesterday. Glad someone else was able to confirm it.

This is good news in my opinion. Unless they released the rest of the figures, they were going to be hard pressed getting people to spend $120.

Hopefully this will help bring down the costs of the side kicks on fleabay as well. I still need 1 more but won't pay $50 they've been going for.

and as you know all about the PHOTO OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN rule on the internet ... you will make sure you get some visible proof ?

That confirms what I already thought...it just made more sense for it to be the old sidekicks.

Just got back from my run to pick up my SS preorder. They also had the sidekicks, and the employees were unaware of any special $30 promotion starting the 16th, as has been mentioned in other threads. They rang the sidekicks up in their computer, and the computer came back with a $10 price point and and no date limitations. So they were perfectly willing to sell me some at that price. So in addition to my SS set, I walked out with all four sidekicks.

I'm not trying to say that the 1/16 promotion doesn't exist, just that not all GS employees know about it, and the GS computer system is allowing them to be purchased starting today for $10 each.

I'm actually quite happy about this being the first Sidekicks set myself, we had a complete set from Frito Lay and sold it. Couldn't resist for the prices they were fetching, and the fact they were almost useless inside the game. Now I can get a set for my 4 year old daughter, she can do as she please with....without feeling guilty of having an insane amount of money sitting there.

Texas can you confirm what sidekicks you got (pics)...my gamestop doesn't get them till Jan 16.

The four original ones. Trigger Snappy, Terrabyte, Gill Runt, and the Stealth Elf one who's name I'm forgetting.

Thanks Texas...no giants sidekicks only the frito ones...that is wonderful news for us...since we have all those already.

As for pics, I'm in no position right now to take any. Sorry. I know that puts me at a disadvantage in having people believe me, but there's not much I can do. I'm one of those rare people who has a phone that does nothing more than make calls. My wife has a cell with a camera, so this evening I'll see about getting pics.

How are the sidekicks packaged?....they must have a barcode if they scanned them!

Nah, the couple dozen other people (including me) that have confirmed exactly the same thing in person can allow you to forego the "pics or it didn't happen" clause.

It's the old Sidekicks. It's good news because it gives an avenue for those that missed some to get them. Let's hope that Frito Lay steps up to the plate with the new ones. I definitely prefer $2 each with a bag of chips you can get on sale for less than $5 to use in the kid's lunch.

They are packaged in small sealed baggies, with bar-code stickers on the back of the bag. The baggies are under 2" X 2" square. They remind me a bit of how GS was sealing the used skylanders that they were buying and selling for a while.

This is even better news than Zap and Hot Dog coming out today (picked mine up a few hours ago). The GS employee actively tried to get me to purchase the old Sidekicks at the $10 price point, with no mention of the $30 promo.

This is awesome. The people who already have them don't have to spent $120 (or $40, depending on the GS employee's knowledge of the promotion) on stuff they already have. The people don't have them can now get them for WAY less than the ridiculous eBay prices ($100+ for four useless characters... WTFROFLBBQ?!).

How, in ANY way, is this "bad news"?!?!? I feel like the next step is complaining that Activision is releasing more characters because you personally don't have the gas money to get to the store, or the Internet connection to order online. Old Sidekicks = Best news since Giants was released.

Just went to my GameStop to pick up SSBP and the manager there said he did not get the sidekicks in yet but they are listed on his shipping invoice and the names listed are definitely the original Frito Lay 4. He also said that they are listed at 9.99 each so in addition to getting one free with a $30 purchase if you just missed one and wanted to buy it you can for 9.99 at least that's what he said

Just got home. Darn UPS people took too long. Got my Hot Dogs and Triple Packs 5 and 6. Gonna update collection pics soon.

They were the original Sidekicks. So happy about that, now I guess that means Frito-Lay will have the new ones yet again.

Confirming indeed. The sidekicks are Series 1, and here's a photo so it did happen (I'll take my internets now, thank you).

It does say specifically in the email sent to Gamestop that these are NOT to be sold individually so if you got em for $9.99 then you got lucky. You must spend $29.99 in order to get one for free.

Then why would they send price stickers with them?

Yeah if you want these sidekicks I would go today and buy them flat out for $10. Once the employees there wise up to the actual promotion, I am sure they will cut this off.

I imagine you can buy them for $9.99 or if you spend $30 on Skylanders Software or Figures (Not Accessories) the system will discount the $9.99 down to $0.

If you can talk the staff into scanning it on it's own then hey, you got a cheap Sidekick.

If they're not selling it to you outright, I'm sure one could buy $30 worth of merchandise, get the free Sidekick, return the $30 worth of merchandise without the Sidekick and then they'll subtract the $10 from the refund.

Just called my gamestop. They said they won't be selling them separately. Boo. I'm one of the people who missed the frito lay promotion altogether and don't have any of them. I also already have everything that's already out for Giants, so the $120 deal is out of the question for me. Maybe I'll ask if they can do what YOLOrenzo suggests. Grrrrrrrr....

Although this still poses the question...exactly how many of the Sidekicks did Frito-Lay have? Enough that they were pawn it off to arguably a pretty major video game retailer? But yet, not enough to make sure everyone could get exactly the one they wanted from the mail in promotion?

Old. GS is starting today to receive supplies of the series one sidekicks. I was able to purchase a set, but I appear likely to be a lucky minority. They appear to be *intended* for a promotion starting on 1/16.

At this point, as far as I know, there is no current information on how the new sidekicks will be distributed.

The people who are getting the sidekicks from stores on their own......I'm wondering how many employees are going to get fired for that one. Scanning those in before the intended promotion and just selling them outright is probably gonna get some folks in trouble with the big boys.

Nope, if the computer says you can sell them that's not their fault. Generally things with an actual street date will come up with a "cannot sell before ____" or something similar. Nobody will be fired for selling them.

For all those that bought them for 10$ each, see if GameStop has the promotion too. Then buy 3 Sidekicks and get 4th one free. Would this work?

Conceivably, if they had been informed by their manager not to sell them, and did so anyway, it could still end up that way. That was not what happened in my case, though. They honestly knew nothing about any upcoming promotion, checked their computer, and also made several calls to try to see if anyone would tell them not to sell them. Other than the word of a random customer (me), they could find no indication that they might *not* be supposed to sell them today.

I for one was actually glad to hear from my manager and here today that the sidekicks were the old ones. I was unsure how to get $120 worth of stuff to get them, so this was great news. I actually expect the new ones to be Frito Lay again sometime this summer, at least that would make sense. Hope everyone that wants these and doesn't have them gets them. Great news for all!

I'm the main one I've seen talking about having actually purchased them today. On my part, I'm going to count myself lucky, and leave well enough alone. I'd rather not tempt fate by trying to play any games with things. I have them, and I have no intention of taking them back to try to get them for 10 dollars less.

^ Nope- just got back from GameStop and they said they had something worked out so that people cannot do just that.., he didn't elaborate on that but sounded like they wouldn't do more than in-store credit for skylanders if the receipt is with the sidekicks, I thought of the same idea, lol

They also said it was just published TODAY in their update letter that the sidekicks, or Skylanders "Minis" as they were referring to them, were marked as shipped to that store on the 8th or 9th so they won't arrive until Monday... they didn't say anything about them being something that was already released... they thought it was going to be new... so do you think they are just confused about what they are, or is it possible they would be getting both sets of sidekicks and "Minis" on Monday?? I just want to make sure I don't miss out on the new sidekicks this Monday, but don't want to drive over there if it's the old ones I already have!! lol

Yea they aren't even suposed to be selling them or giving them out at all until the 16th.

Really poor communication as usual from GameStop to their employees, wouldn't surprise me if folks still got fired over it.

PHEW! That scared me, I wasn't sure what to do if they were the Giants sidekicks.... Got my SS today and I asked if they had enough of them she said they only got enough for the PREORDERS. SO happy I preordered. ^^
