To change or not to change, that is the question [CLOSED]

Greetings fellow portal masters my name is EON ... well not really, but I have chosen the username GASSA because I am a Grand Admiral of Skylanders Spyro's Adventure (and I've been told that I'm full of hot air, but that can't be right).

Now I know some of you are probably going weak at the knees right now, but stand at ease soldiers, I am here to ask a simple question and maybe I'll jump in and answer a few of yours. Yes I can be quite generous like that.

Of course I understand that in a public forum people are entitled to their own opinions and not everyone can be right. To check whether or not your opinions are correct please feel free to see what I have said on the matter as that will of course be the right opinion.

As I mentioned sometime ago now I achieved the status of Grand Admiral for Spyro's Adventure. I have all the Series 1 characters of course. All of them fully upgraded and levelled up. When I say all I'm not counting the collectables. I have some, but I also have some doubts about them holding their value and given the crazy prices people are selling some of these for on Ebay I think a lot of people will end up out of pocket in the coming years when the value drops.

But forgive me I digress ... let's get back to that question shall we.

Now it probably won't come as any surprise to learn that a portal master of my undoubted talent is on the verge of becoming a Grand Admiral on Skylanders Giants as well. I have 20 of the 23 accolades required and need only to claim ownership of the 3 missing giants and 3 more orange based regular characters to achieve that goal. Yes I have found everything there is to find. I have got my 3 stars on every level including redoing the expansion packs. I am a star.

But I digress again. I thought that while I wait for Activision and their cunning staggered release marketing ploy that I might race through and complete all levels on Nightmare Mode. BUT will switching to Nightmare Mode and claiming the one hat I am missing (two if you count the Gold Top Hat which I might get tonight if I can ever work out which quest it is that I haven't completed yet) reset my 3 stars on every level? I assume it won't but I would like to know before a flip the switch so to speak.

Anyway, I look forward to your responses, please don't be intimidated by my awesomeness I am after all only human. Well a very elite human but still human after all.

Sorry fellow valued Portal Master X-Treme I didn't know that I had used a lot of big words. I will try to break it down:

My question is this - If I change the level from Hard to Nightmare Mode will this delete all the stars I have got for each level? Will I need to get 3 stars in each level all over again?

Sorry, not sure how else to ask it?

In terms of potential big words I will offer some explanations:

Greetings = Hello
Generous = Kind
Collectables = Rare Skylander toys
'Out of pocket' = lose money, not worth what they paid for it
Digress = off topic, talking about something that doesn't have anything to do with my question
Cunning = tricky
Staggered = not all at the same time
Intimidated = scared of, in awe of
Awesomeness = me

Can't see any other big ones in there and you probably know most of the ones I've listed. But let me know if any stump you because I am happy to answer any questions you have. Thanks for replying.

To get on Nightmare mode you have to start a new game entirely...
So it shouldnt affect anything in your first game.

My understanding is to unlock Nightmare Mode you have to first complete the game (i.e. defeat Kaos) on any level difficulty (Easy, Medium or Hard). And to complete my hat collection I HAVE to switch to Nightmare mode in the game I have already completed.

Isn't there some knight hat only in nightmare? If you can't unlock it in a normal difficulty then you must unlock everything in Nightmare, wouldn't you?

Well the only way to get to Nightmare mode is if you start a new game. Theres no other way... Maybe if you collect the hat with one of the skylanders from your first game it will save inti your collection? Maybe?

When I first started my game on the Wii - game 2 from the start menu - I could only select from Easy, Medium or Hard; I chose hard because I am a Grand Admiral after all.

I couldn't select Nightmare Mode because I first had to play the game all the way through once and defeat Kaos. Now that I have done that I have the option to switch to Nightmare Mode and play the game again but still on my fully completed Game 2. If I started a new game, say game 3 from the start up menu, then I wouldn't be able to select Nightmare Mode until I had been all the way through once if that makes sense.

So now that I have unlocked Nightmare Made, and I want to get the Knight Hat the you are referring to WUMBOSIMPSON, all I have to do is select Nightmare mode form the settings menu in Game 2. BUT if I do that will it wipe out all of my 3 stars?

I don't think switching a difficulty takes away stars. But you can't change into nightmare mode in the original save game you first beat it with. You would have to start a whole new game save, on nightmare, and repeat everything. Then your rank, or uh, accolade thingymabobber will be in the Nightmare gamesave.

SorryX-Treme so you simply meant I was waffling on too much. Fair call.

But you will all be delighted to know that I have read your feedback and realised that the mistake was mine. I had read somewhere that I had to first complete the game to unlock Nightmare Level. Now I realise that I can actually only select Nightmare level at the very start of the game. That means I will now need to reset all my hard work and start all over again.

Tad disappointing really.

All you have to do is start a new save file and set to nightmare mode and you have both difficulties.
Then you equip the Knight hat to a skylander.
Then, go to you other easier difficulty and put that skylander on the portal and you have nightmare hat.

That's what I did but since you are on Wii it may not work.

I have no idea what the point of this topic even is...?

Regardless, stop boasting, it just makes you sound like a child.
