This topic is about posting your thoughts about something/someone here or in real life. But it has to be anonymous. That way no one knows, it's easier on you, and it gets something off your chest. Once and a while, people will know what you're talking about if it's someone on here but it doesn't matter. They won't dare say it unless it's about them.

^I just can't really get behind something that will likely be the same core gameplay once again (a la CoD), and seeing several topics about the same thing is putting me off further. I'm certainly more hyped that I was for B/W 2 (which seems like an exact copy), but I'm still not expecting much.

I am disappointed with X and Y right now, but not changing the core gameplay is not the general problem. Especially because one must remember that the main appeal of Pokemon comes from the tournament appeal, for a lot of players. Pokemon games do actually change a lot for those people, because many changes in the way moves work are made. Someone who just plays Pokemon for the single player will not notice these changes, but anyone who plays the games to compete will notice a lot of changes which means they have to change their strategies and teams to keep up with the competition. I honestly think that the games are fine there and should keep that trend going. It's great for people who consider themselves intelligent.

My problem with Pokemon lies with the handling of the single player, for many reasons. Gen 1 and 2 had amazing single player campaigns (and their remakes prove that it wasn't a case of "amazing for it's time") but I find the rest of them forgettable. Which is one of the main problems with Pokemon these days - it's all about the "awesome" new Pokemon and not the creation of a new, memorable experience.

While you have a point here, it's still rather small changes and isn't something that I can personally get behind. For me it's just the same game every time, minus a few changes here and there.

And the same cannot be said for CoD and yearly sports titles. Those are skill based games and need more recognisable changes to their multiplayer to keep them fresh, and adding in a few new perks or updating a player roster (which is mainly to keep up with real life, and doesn't even effect gameplay that much, if at all) don't suffice.

Pokemon's multiplayer is completely strategy based, and doesn't require a smidgen of skill, so changing various variables, adding new Pokemon with new moves, stats, and effects, and adding subtle changes like the concept of "sting damage" actually mean a great deal. It's all about pre-battle research and thinking. Battles are not the work, they are just where you show off your work. Changes like these are pretty inconsequential in CoD and sports games because those are primarily skill based (they have an element of strategy but it's very minor).

Nobody is really bothered by the core mechanics of Pokemon or the fashion in which they are updated, because it works wonders for the multiplayer. It's just the single player that's grown stale. Gen 1 and Gen 2 have worse battle mechanics than later generations, but they are appreciated as the best generations by many because of the design of everything outside of the battles, which basically minimised the tedium battle may have caused.

The only thing holding Pokemon back is the way the handle the single player. The emphasise the "CATCH EM ALL" aspect too heavily because of the ridiculous amounts of Pokemon. The actual adventuring aspect has been reduced to something very shallow.

Oh, so the old GBA games are better? They are really fun. Especially firered.

Actually those games require strategy as well, since you can't simply jump into a game with a basic idea and expect to come out as the winner. Sports games are a bit less of an example so I'll focus on CoD.

It does a similar thing as what you say Pokemon does, as it's constantly adding and taking away guns, adding or removing attachments, and making changes as to the kind of class you can have. From there you have to think about the kind of class you're making and find the most suitable one for you, kind of like how you would find a suitable party in Pokemon.

Skill does play a role in the game, but it also does in Pokemon. You could have the best party in the world and it would mean nothing if you don't know how to use it in whichever situation. Same applies to CoD. To me, it wouldn't be simply showing off your party in Pokemon, more than it is showing what you can do with a party like that.

But that's just my opinion. To me, CoD and Pokemon are rather alike (I DON'T MEAN IN TERMS OF GAMEPLAY OR STORY). The same argument I use of "it's the same thing every time" to CoD is also an argument I can throw at Pokemon. This isn't saying that Pokemon or CoD are bad games.
