I agree. What I was meaning, though, is I'm sure a lot of the applicants have at least been around for a year or more, so he would probably know who is who the best.

This. There is no ay to know how someone will react to additional responsibilities and abilities. I doubt most applicants had nefarious motives. I know I personally will gnorc every other user and move every topic onto one board so that I can lord over all topics as their king, but I doubt everyone is this evil. Just kidding (mostly).

A bigger issue will be to see how new mods would react to situations like the "thing" that occurred yesterday. Will they run around the site and spread alarm or will they remain clear headed? This is something only time will tell, and if a wrong candidate is chosen they can be replaced later. Its not a finite decision nor does it need to be

If somebody want's to take advantage of the Hunter position, it won't last long. Dark will still have all the authority, so the people who gets chosen mustn't allow that to get over their heads.

The worst that could happen is users getting suspended and we see that all the time. So don't worry about it for those that are.

Plus they probably aren't anywhere near to being chosen, but I could be wrong.

This is why I think "the next phase" is sort of a testing phase. To let potential moderators get used to the controls and so dark can see how they perform, and then make any necessary changes. <.<;

It could be that he makes you a moderator for a day, see how you do, then decide whether you can actually be good for the position.

I hope it is, but might be unfair to those where hardly anything happens and others have to deal with a lot of trubbish.

I don't even think I might be chosen as moderator. Either way, I'm just glad there will be other admins who would help maintain order.

Sorry if I am late to post, but I made my application just around the start of this and I sincerely hope I become a Hunter. I want to stop trolls and flaming around the site, as there is a troll I know of at my school who goes by the username okiedokie10. I give good luck to you Dark in finding the perfect hunters.

I wonder how he's doing? I never thought he was actually gonna need a Hunter. But I guess it was something to happen sooner or later, considering how big this site has grown with users lately.

I heard that there will be a series of real world heroic challenges. I am currently practicing for the flaming arrow archery aspect of the competition right now.

Just knowing how reluctant he was to even create hunter positions means he's hesitant about the thought. It's like picking out a nanny for your kids while your at work, he needs to be confident in his decision. This could take a while and pressuring dark is not going to improve your odds or the overall candidate pool.

Been watching this thread for a while. 'ItsJustMe' just wrote exactly what i've been thinking for the last 4 pages of the thread.

There's no need for any kind of tests or trial period. If someone is made a moderator and they screw up the first day, the first week or seven years down the road, dark is under no obligation to keep them around for any period of time. The idea that he needs to have a "trial period" is a joke. What, after the trial period is up, if the moderator goes mad with power and bans half the site, dark is just going to shrug his shoulders and go on?

Also, harassing dark about the hows, whens and whys isn't going to make things go faster or easier. Just let him take his time and do it how he wants to do it. If he wants to explain his process, he'll do it.

And, in case anyone thinks I'm just sucking up - I didn't even apply. I already moderate two other gaming forums and I don't really have the time for this. Plus, I get the impression that my moderation style isn't really what dark is looking for, since I tend to only act on SPAM and flagged posts, while letting the rest of the conversation flow naturally.

What you said it's true. There is no need for a trial, just see how the Hunter does the work. A Hunter may have more power than the average user, but dark still has the authority in all the site, even over the Hunter. Plus, if the moderator finds something off (but isn't sure what to do), he/she can always consult dark52 first before doing anything about it.

I wasn't under the impression that hunters would do more than locking/stickying threads and removing/editing people's posts. So I never came to think about the scenario you've presented on banning madness. Anyhow, "trial period" is pretty arbitrary a term, and clearly if said user is doing fine, then let him/her have at it. All that usually takes is a few days to get the general impression you need to get; it's rarely ever a set date as I suppose a "trial period" may imply. I never meant it as such, sorry.

People are excited, so naturally they want to know the latest scoop. I didn't apply, but if I was, I'd just be quietly waiting.

I don't even know if a trial period would be so much about weeding out candidates or about seeing exactly how the system works when it's put into effect. I'm sure dark has run some tests with one of his alternate accounts, but we've never really used the Hunters normally on the forum. <.<;

You can't notice that from just a couple of looks though. One could easily pretend to act serious then suddenly change. That's what I'm worried about.

Still, they could easily loose their position and there are still some "tests" they have to go through.

Well the thing is, some sub-forums are MUCH more active than others. Even if you gave 1 mod ALL the Spyro sub-forums, they would have nowhere near as much work as the mod who handles the Skylanders sub-forums or the mod who handles Stuff & Nonsense... <.<

Hmm I wonder if all mods (meaning every section mod) be just called 'Hunter' or somethhing different depending on where they are hanging in (like 'Hunter Of Stuff And Nonsense'?) Actually, maybe it would be in the description of their status in their GB.
