It depends. If they are rare or variants I do not. I will get two of ones like legendaries or the Granite Crusher. One to open and one keep boxed.

Same as Bazinga. Regular guys all get opened, and usually the first variants I get will stay boxed until I get a second. Usually then, I'll keep the boxed on up on the wall and not level it or anything, and the one I first got and leveled I'll open.

No reason to open them unless you play with them as toys or plan on displaying them. That's all you need to ask yourself if you are deciding on opening or not. If you are collecting as a hobby or for value, obviously keep them sealed. I collect the characters to use in the game only, and since they work through the packaging, there's no reason to open them.

I opened them since I find it fun to display them next to my TV, though I'll probably run out of space soon.

None of mine get opened. Much like "Junun" since I'm both a collector as well as a gamer, I like to keep things mint (not to sell later either)- I just prefer to keep things boxed cus I love the packaging.
And since the portal can read them through the packaging I see no reason not too.

We open everything. My kids play with them, and and the cards. I couldn't imagine paying $100 for a figure, or planning to sell them in the future.

WANTED: regular Chompie Mage. Can be loose. We will open and play with it like all of our Skylanders. |

I Open them, but I usually cut the plastic carefully, so that It won't damage the artwork in the package, and then I usually keep the artworks because they looks so much epic.

We've opened everything so far, but I separate out the variants since my 3yr old son tends to missplace/hide them. It's easier to keep track that way.
If he ever does ask for a variant I grab it for him and put it back once he's done playing. Also, all the standard figure stickers go on the poster and the cards + stickers go in binders. If we're lucky to come across any of the hard to find pearl/rock/crystal/etc. variants we would keep them in package. |

I open mine. Obviously nobody would feel a special connection by placing what... a box on the Portal of Power. Placing an actual Skylander on the Portal adds more excitement.

I did keep myn in boxs at first and slowly opened normal ones untill the nightmirish day I came home after breaking up with my gf and told her to get the out I had them on a shelf that was hers varients wasn't open she set them the unopen varients kinda behind the door on the floor when I came in to room later that night went to close the door which is to my bedroom. Closed the door it caught a dirty shirt. The shirt caught my flock stumpy box sitting on floor somehow riped box back right was like /face palm...
Sec of silents then a loud MOTHER****** The next morning I did think it was funny that it happend so I just opened the rest now I just open them all and be stress free about the boxes be the box art was nice on the wall to wish I never had started opening theem |

We open all of ours as well. I'd rather open it (rare or not), than try explaining to my son why we need to keep it in the box.

^ Some of us (Which seems to be a very select few)- are also collectors, as well as gamers. And since my two kids show absolutely no interest in the game, I see no harm in keeping mine boxed. If my children liked and played it, then that'd be a different story. And I'd open all but the variants. Fortunately for me though, they don't My son prefers his leap-pad and my daughter prefers Angry Birds. lol.

Like beanie babies and baseball cards. Modern collectibles become devalued because so many people keep them in great condition in the box. Older stuff is worth more now because it generally was used, and now that older people have money, they want to repurchase the Toys they had, or wanted. If there's tons of those toys available in new condition, the value is minimal. Fewer toys mean higher prices. So all the people leaving their skylanders new in box are actually driving the price down

That may be true now, but come 20 years down the road who knows if I will still have mine or if someone else on here will have theirs. It just depends. No one really knows. I will keep mine in good condition in case they are worth money later. If not, ohwell.

Open all.
Makes for a better display, plus why keep them locked up in a plastic prison. If it wasn't for their in-game functionality, you might as well just print out a picture and put it on a shelf. And I do not keep(which I normally would) the packaging since the artwork is on the stat-cards anyway. |

I buy them to play with so yes, I am opening them. My little collection is sitting right by my tv currently and they look cute. I don't have many so far and even if I did get a rare (the rarest I have is Whisper Elf which isn't so rare) they'd still be opened so I can play with them. I don't plan to sell them so no need to keep them boxed.
Besides the poor things need to breathe And they are very detailed figures. My guess is someday when I am done they will move into my media room and go on the shelves with my Star Wars figures.

Everything in my collection is open except for my variants (minus two GitD Cynders, two Blue Bashes, and two Red Drill Sergeants that sit in front of my tv) and my Lightcores. I like keeping my variants in the box for collector's purposes, not gonna play with them very much anyways. And I think they look rather nice in there, and I really don't wanna scuff up my flocked Prism Break... Lightcores are in their boxes since I don't know what to do with them yet, I like how shiny their boxes are anyways.
