Oh I'm having the same problem with a Voodood I purchased via eBay. I bought him knowing he was "broken" and set to work using him as the test subject to find the "fix broken toy" option on the Wii U.
Funny thing is he scanned in the first time I tried him on the Wii U, did his catchphrase and hasn't worked on the Wii U since. I tried scanning him into 3DS Giants (Portal acts like he's not there) and on 3DS SA. The 3DS SA was interesting as he did register once, the Portal noticed he was broken, attempted to "fix" him and then stopped noticing him before the patch could be done. There is a demo XBOX running Giants in one of my local Game stores so I'll try him on there when I'm next there. I think the problem could lie in his base. There seems to be a lot of glue seeping out the gaps in the inner base. Perhaps this glue is what is causing my Voodood's non scanning problems. Does your Flashwing seem to have extra glue on her base?

I had the same problem for Voodood. I sent in to Activision, and got a replacement.

How long did it take to get it back? Also did they send you the box?

IDK, 2-4 weeks? No, they just sent me a figure, a web code, in a plastic wrap thing in a box. |

Weebby did you have to send your figure in first. I can't seem to find where to send it.

So I decided to open up the "unscanning" Voodood. First I used a hair drier and then just sat him on the radiator for 30 minutes. Then took a flathead screwdriver to the base, after a few pokes the base came off (and flew across the room, I will add).
Here is the base with the RFID chip, I suspect the warped chip is what was causing the reading errors (I covered the base with cling film to prevent any handling damage to the chip): Tried him on the Wii U and got this message: Tried him on the 3DS Spyro's Adventure and he scanned perfectly (no error messages): Tried him on the 3DS Giants, again scanned perfectly with no errors: Once again back on the Wii U and voila - he works! I have no idea what his stats were before I took him apart as I purchased him as "broken" via eBay. So to FatherofSkyland if you don't mind trying this (and being careful with the screwdriver) it might be possible to bring your Flashwing back.

Is it worth all of that just for a Flashwing?

It might be worth it if the chip remembers the saved data. There really is nothing to lose as Activision wouldn't ask for a broken Skylander in return for the replacement, just the Model number on the base.

WOW. I never knew how simple figures were until now. Just a figure on a base with a chip on the side.

They may ask you to send them a picture with a number that they give you in so they can prove you have it. They did that to me when my sonic boom went bad. I'm not sure how they decide to ask for pictures or not. Quote: Buzzthebatgirl
I thnk you may have "reset" him by placing him on the portal from the 3ds sometimes that works when you get a figure like that. |

It may have reset him, but it didn't give me the "toy on the portal has a problem, would you like to reset" message on either of the 3DS games. As previously mentioned, I did get that message, but then the 3DS stopped recognising the figure before the "patch" could be completed.
