I've heard it goes both ways. SA portals can work with Giants and Giants portals appear to be backwards compatible with SA... I THINK. <.>

I've been told they are practically the same, though I've yet to try it myself. I prefer the portal from Giants smilie

The differences I have noticed between the portals are that the ones from SSA have the symbols on the side light up, where the ones from SG are molded as 1 piece and do not light up on the sides.

The Ps3 portal was also changed from wireless in SSA to wired in SG. Xbox and 3ds stay the same on this, while I am unsure on the Wii due to the fact that I do not own a Wii.

I hear the wireless portal goes thru batteries even faster now with the lightcores. I would suggest if it works for you to use the wired portal. 10 times better in my book.

Ah, I could mod the thing anyway to have lights.

I heard various issues with the Wireless ones on the Wii when usb USB HDDs.... No, not being illegal, but new game, gonna install it to HDD and use that as to protect the disc, legally.

You could, but it wouldn't be worth your time. The SSA and SG portal internals (aside from the usb vs. wireless parts) are the same for all intents and purposes still. The reason that they do not light up now is how the exterior was made.

On the SSA portal the symbols on the side were cut out and had clear plastic inserts put behind to allow the light that goes through the top to come through the sides aswell.

On the SG portal the symbols are molded as one piece with the rest of the portal thus being opaque and not allowing the light through.

With out going too indepth, when you disassemble a portal, the side view comes into 2 pieces. The top part with the symbols, and the bottom part with the cord or on button. You could just switch the top of a SSA portal onto a bottom of a SG portal and have a wired portal that lights up. I guess some would consider that a mod, but I personally don't because you are not modifying any parts. Just swapping 2 parts that fit interchangeably.
