I used to be a regular poster in the original Spyro's Adventure forum for Skylanders. That is, until our house burned down and we lost our whole collection (at least one of each figure and set), along with everything else.

Well, this Christmas I couldn't resist and bought Skylanders Giants and 16 figures for my children and myself to leave under the tree.

Rekindled is our love and excitement over Skylanders.

All of us feel that Giants is the better game, but we miss the old game too and I'm considering buying a new copy. Also, both my son and daughter received Nintendo 3DS systems this year so I'm considering the Skylanders for those as well (we are an XBOX home here).

Along with new favorites, I purchased some old friends in version 2 and lightcore variants.

I have to say that I'm kind of disappointed at the price points for most of the figures and sets and VERY disappointed at the secondary market's scalping tactics of not only the new Giants figures, but also the old Adventures toys.

When our insurance for home contents finally settles, I plan(ned) on repurchasing all the figures my children and I lost in the fire. But some figures (Voodood for example, a favorite of my little girl's for some inexplicable reason) costs a mint.

And I wanted to replace my Ghost Roaster (the only undead Skylander I the daddy had for a complete set of all the elements), but don't get me started.

Since my son wants all the Chop Chops, my daughter has claimed everything else (including Eye Brawl) that leaves me with...what? I'm either going to have to buy a double of something for myself (dislike doing that very much) or bite the bullet and buy an overinflated Ghost Roaster from eBay.

So, are the figures in the poster that comes with the core game all the figures that are planned, or are there some undepicted ones (boomer) coming down the pipe?

I still see some of the Darklight Crypt packs in Walmart and Toys R Us, and Voodood has been plentiful at Toys R Us as well. But Boomer however, has become scarce, and very difficult to find.

Good to know about the Crypt. Shame to hear that Boomer is tough to find.

I purchased everything from Amazon due to the fact that TrU refused to honor their price matching policy. I went as far as to talk to the store manager and he wouldn't budge, even though I had brought along a copy of their price matching document with me.

For what would have amounted to something like $30 off my purchase they preferred to garner bad customer relations instead.

Still, I'm not going to allow that to stop me from looking for that Crypt pack along with a new Voodood for my little girl.

Thanks.

I brought a print out of every single exact thing I was planning to buy. The problem they said was that the items in question were from Amazon and not from a store like Target or Walmart.

I asked each employee and then the manager in turn to show me were they spelled out such a stipulation. The wording of their policy even included the words "all" and "online" in the same sentence as honored with the exception of "black friday or cyber monday" sales.

Honestly it was flagrant refusal to honor a policy that I brought with me in writing. Plain and simple as that. This particular ToysRUs was also gouging their Skylanders products in the days leading up to Xmas. $19 giant figures, $12 singles and nearly $100 for the starter set.

I know that TrU is not allowed to do any of these things, but I'm not personally going to pursue any of it. I could and perhaps I even should, but I just have far too much on my plate to deal with something this petty for now.

If I do decide to buy from a TrU store, I'll drive the extra 40 miles and try the next nearest one.

Was the seller on Amazon Amazon itself? I know TRU will only honor first party Amazon, not the common users that are Amazon endorsed.

Yes it was sold and fulfilled by Amazon merchandise. Amazon prices being better than any secondary sellers at any rate. I wanted to pay $5.99 for Drill Sargent for example (instead of this TrU's $12), Giant figures for $14 and get the core set for at that time $59 on Amazon and not the $89 that this TrU was selling it for as Christmas neared.

The policy I copied was from Toysrus.com and nowhere does it say they won't honor online prices.

These people didn't even look at my printouts other than the copy of their own policy anyway. They were so determined not to change their markup that they simply argued me down as soon as I said "Amazon" stating that they can't compete with Amazon because Amazon has less overhead due to not having to stock inventory or some other nonsense.

Again I pointed down at their policy and said "please show me where you state this. I see this line here about honoring online competitors, nothing about "Except Amazon". They ALL tried to tell me that what is meant by that line is that they will price match the Toysrus.com prices. I laughed at that and challenged that toysrus.com isn't a COMPETITOR now is it? I had my kids with me at the time, otherwise I would have turned around to the massive line that was still behind me and bellowed out how toysrus prices were far and above those on Amazon and that although there is a price matching policy in place, the store refuses to honor it.

Instead I just told them they lost a customer and left the store with my full cart sitting there.

Like I said customer relations isn't as important to these people as gouging every penny is.

My blood pressure is going up again just retelling it.

I feel terrible about your house. And if you're looking for Warnado, a Gamestop somewhat nearby almost always has a bunch of them...I managed to get mine about 3 days after wave 5 was released....So that Gamestop for Warnado, and a nearby Target had a whole bunch of Skylanders at by 2 get the 3rd free adn most of them had been Wham Shell. Though Camo I have yet to see but I did see 1 at said Gamestop but when returning, I haven't.....BTW, my closest Best Buy has a lot of Darklight Crypt. I'd send you one if I wasn't 14 and my mom doesn't allow me to give things to unknown people....

Thank you.

There is no doubt about it, this has been a tough year. First the house fire and then only a few months later hurricane Sandy flooded us out of the house we were renting until our old house is rebuilt.

For over a month we had no utilities at all, that was really the most horrible part of it. Living off of army rations, water and only our own company for entertianment. Sleeping in winter coats and fighting colds.

We sort of lost everything twice. Sucked hard.

We're back in the rental house now. The owner's insurance had it repaired pretty quickly. New water heater, etc. However we did just get word from our insurance company that January is the last month they're going to pay for our rent. Our old house -might- be ready to move in by then, but it's not likely. Hopefully things will work out.

*in best Farnsworth voice* Good news, everyone. I found a new Darklight Crypt while shopping for my little girl's birthday present at Target today. For good measure I also picked up Dragon's Peak which we never had before.

For her birthday I did as I promised and got her the DS3 version of Skylanders. I can only imagine how jealous her brother is going to be until his next birthday when I pick a copy up for him.

Now, if I can just find a Boomer.

So, long story update, here goes.

The house fire didn't burn up our Skylanders, but they suffered a great deal of water from the fire hoses. I didn't throw them out right away because I had hoped that we might still be able to save them.

These hopes sort of dwindled because I put them and everything else I had hoped to resurrect from the fire in my garage which got flooded during superstorm Sandy.

We live near the ocean and everything in that garage was submerged under 5 feet of sea water for about 8 hours before the tide receded.

So, imagine it 8 hours under salt water.

Well, I had to visit the house the other day to answer some questions for the contractors that the insurance company is using to repair my house so we can move back in. While I was there I just happened to see the Stanley tool organizers that we kept our Skylander collections in and couldn't resist pulling them out.

When I lifted them up they simply poured water out of them for several seconds. When I opened the plastic lids there was sand and sea water filling them up. The cards and remaining sticker, needless to say were completely destroyed. The figures themselves smelt briney and were of course saturated.

Still, I brought them to the house we are renting anyway and gave them a hosing off. The I put a plastic bag over my new PoP (got the family Giants for Christmas) and tried all the figures out. Amazingly a few of them worked. Not the least surprising was Ghost Roaster, but also my Drill Sarge, Stump Smash and a couple of others.

The rest, including Boomer didn't even register. I threw all the non working ones into the kitchen garbage except for Boomer because my son couldn't part with him, even if he was broke.

I washed off the remaining figures with dishwashing liquid and a soft brush. Got the smell off of them, dried them off and crossed my fingers that they would survive the washing off process. They all did.

For some reason I decided to leave my son's Boomer on the radiator overnight to fully dry out.

The next day on a whim I put him on the portal and he miraculously worked.

Soon, my kids had me digging through coffee grounds for the rest of the figures.

I gave each and every figure a thorough washing. Afterwards I put them all on the radiator. They aren't all coming back right away but at this point we've reclaimed my old Prism Break, Whirl Wind, Drobot, Terrafin, Stealth Elf and Sonic Boom.

Still hoping for Gill Grunt, Wrecking Ball, Chop Chop, Hex and all the rest to recover on the heat of the radiator.

Miraculous toys these are. So incredibly well made.

Unfortunately I hadn't noticed that my Double Trouble was still in the trash before I took it out to the curb. I thought I reclaimed them all, but he went missing. Rest in Piece Series 1 Double Trouble ("Tiki Topple").

I bought myself a series 2 to make me feel better.

Series 2 is better than series one anyway, so he's better than series 1. I hope the others start to work

I'll try to make another expedition next week. With Christmas and my daughter's birthday plus buying for "just because" reasons, my wife will divorce me if I spend any more on Skylanders without at least a week long break.

Bash, Cynder and Eruptor have all been rez'd.

With the two starter sets (XBOX and 3DS Giants) this gives my daughter three Cynders. I now have my LC Eruptor and my Series 1 Eruptor which as luck would have it are on different paths already so no need to reset anything.

This is the only Bash we have and he's my son's.

Still plenty more to go and I have to admit it's kind of exciting testing them and one or two spring to life after not working.
