I know this local guy who cheaply sells games and recently he got some Giants discs. Unfortunately there's only a game with no figures or Portal.
So do you need at least one Giant to just complete the game, because I don't want to waste much money on the Starter Pack.
EDIT: I'm not going 100% completion.

Yes you do need a giant for 100%.

No you don't, unless you want to 3 star the level.

You do not need a Giant to beat the game, you do need one to get one hundred percent. But why don't you just buy a giant that's not Tree Rex? Hot Head, Bouncer, Crusher, and Swarm are all out in single packs if you want a Giant.

You don't need any Giants for anything central to the game. Everything has a work-around appropriate for regular characters, but many of them require extra footwork. It's a lot easier to have a Giant, and I highly recommend one, but it is not necessary. There's always some way for regular Skylanders to get by.

No, every level can be done with a regular Skylander.

From all of the posts above you dont need a giant to complete level 1, however you won't be able to get shroombooms soul gem with out one. You also miss something when you do the giant jump.

Well you do need a skylander of some sort to be able to play. And a portal.

I have 7 Skylanders and the Portal from the previous game, so I'm good. C:

You can fall through the hole the NPC Giant opens while demonstrating for you, so although Giant Jump gets you a treasure chest, you may still progress.

The answer is Yes. You do need at least ONE giant to get 100%. Theres areas that only Giants con access in the game. (Areas that have Treasure/Scrolls and even hats). So yeah definitely get at least one giant, you'll regret it if you dont lol.

It really falls into what you call complete. Some people might just want to get thru the story line. Others like me want to get 100% on it.

Exactly, thats what I meant. You don't need one to beat the game. Only to get 100% if you wanna get technical. I'm a completionist, so naturally "Beating" means 100% and nothing less lol.
But I got the assumption they wished to 100% it, by wording it Complete. Though I could be wrong.

I would hope that no one expects 100% completion of Skylanders Giants without a Giant to be possible. You can beat Kaos and get through the ending credits, you can open (and complete) Nightmare Mode, but everyone is correct in pointing out that there are a ton of Giant-specific tasks and areas if you're looking to perfect the game. You don't need one right away, but if ever a Giant makes it into an avenue where you can purchase it in your country, I highly recommend it.

In truth, I actually very much enjoy a couple of the Giants. Tree Rex and Swarm in particular are characters I like far more than I expected to going in.

I like crusher a lot more than i thought i would.
