Basically, I managed to collect all the original Skylanders, but after completing my collection and beating the game 100% on Xbox and 3DS, I decided to move on. When Giants was released, I decided to hold off, due to other major titles coming out around the same time.
Now that I'm done with those, I decided it's time to get back "in the game", lol.
Anyways, these are my questions:
1) What exactly is the difference between Lightcore and Regular Characters?
2) From a gameplay perspective (not collectors), is there any reason to get a Lightcote OR S2 of an original character (since I have all the S1's)?
3) Can my "original" characters level up in the new game?
4) Is there online play this time around?
5) Can you jump in the game, yet? Lol.
6) I personally never bothered with the "variants" (glow in the dark, silver, gold), but besides Legendaries, are they doing these variants still? If so are they just as rare?
7) Lastly, is there a list anywhere (or if someone may oh-so-kindly fill me in) of the Skylanders (lightcore, s2, giant, legendary) that are CURRENTLY available, and what wave we're on? I need to be caught up to speed
Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to fill me in!

Fine
1) if its a old character lightcore, it dosnt have a wow pow power. Wen they come in the game they make a big burst of light damaging enimies. 2) s2 have wowpw powers which make them more power full, lightcores again look above^ 3) yes they can pevel up to level 15 4) um i think universe is still up. There are three app games though, Skylanders cloud patrol, Skylanders battlegrounds, and Skylanders lost islands 5) nope 6) there is GITD sonic boom, cynder, and fright rider. Then theres Glitter varients of Hot Head, Sprocket, and Sonic Boom. Then theres the employee exclusive holiday prism break. And yes they are just as rare 7) click on the skylander giants thing under where your username is. Then on the left scroll down till you see pacts. Click that and it shows what characters are in each wave.

Lemme see if I can break it down and help you out (comments in bold are mine):
1) What exactly is the difference between Lightcore and Regular Characters? Lightcore figures are basically the same as regular ones, except that they have the ability to light up. In game, they create a huge burst of light when summoned doing a good chunk of damage to nearby enemies. Lightcores however, based on the returning characters, do not have the special Wow Pow ability that Series 2 characters have. 2) From a gameplay perspective (not collectors), is there any reason to get a Lightcote OR S2 of an original character (since I have all the S1's)? Honestly, no. They're really not that big of a deal, although I believe if you play PvP the S2 characters are far superior than their S1 counterparts 3) Can my "original" characters level up in the new game? Yup, your original S1 characters can all level up to 15. However, they won't get the additional Wow Pow abilities that the S2 guys have. 4) Is there online play this time around? Skylanders Universe (the web browser game) has been updated with Giants, but there's no new online capabilities for the games 5) Can you jump in the game, yet? Lol. Nope. 3DS has the jump thing still. 6) I personally never bothered with the "variants" (glow in the dark, silver, gold), but besides Legendaries, are they doing these variants still? If so are they just as rare? Yes. currently, there has been one for every "wave" release, plus the glow in the dark Cynder/Sonic Boom/Fright Rider that have been available at special retailers. Similar to Dark Spyro in the last game, there's also a handful of new characters that have In-Game Variants again. They are just as rare, although they seem to be a bit more common from what it seems. Or a lot more of our users have gotten much luckier. 7) Lastly, is there a list anywhere (or if someone may oh-so-kindly fill me in) of the Skylanders (lightcore, s2, giant, legendary) that are CURRENTLY available, and what wave we're on? I need to be caught up to speed Dark has a listing of the packs here on the main site. Hope that helps!

1) When the lightcore comes into the game it does 100 damage (you can do this once every level). The lightcore does not have a wow pow, therefore it is a series 1. The figure of a lightcore lights up.
2) I have all the S1's as well. I have all the lightcores as well, but thats just because i get every skylander. If i were you, i would get at least 1 lightcore, and any series 2 characters that you really like. Some of the Wow Pows are absolutely amazing. 3) Yes your original characters can go to level 15. 4) No online play 5) You can only jump in the 3ds 6) Yeah they make GITD's and other variants. Some are just as rare, but others like gitd sonic boom aren't. 7) Ill list all of the characters that are out: New Landers that are out: Chill, sprocket, flashwing, pop fizz, fright rider, shroomboom, and jet vac are all out. (Hot dog who is the fire newlander comes out jan 9th at gamestop.) S2 that are out: Slam bam, girll grunt, drill sergeant, trigger happy, prism break, terrain, bash, double trouble, ignitor, erupt or, flameslinger, hex, cynder, chop-chop, stealh elf, zook, stump smash, sonic boom, whirlwind, lightning rod. LC that are out: Drobot, eruptor, prism break, and shroomboom.

I actually thought of a new question -- If LC is essentially an S1 that lights up, how come they made LC's of new characters (IE Chill). Will the "newlanders" that have a LC variant have a pow wow or..?
Basically, it seems to me that IF S2 LC's have all the same stuff as their S2 counterpart, it's better to get the LC, but for S1 LC's; not so much.

They just light up, and deal damage upon entering the screen, just like the others.

Nono, I don't think you understand.
Example (correct me if I'm wrong): LC Eruptor = S1 Eruptor (no pow wow, but it lights up). S2 Eruptor = NEW version of him, because he gains a new ability, unlike the LC. In that case, (to me) there is no point buying a LC of him. BUT -- Someone like Chill or Shroomboom have a LC AND an original version.. But they are "newlanders" so I assume even the LC versions of them have wow pow's. tl;dr -- S1 LC's not worth it from a gameplay perspective, but S2 LC is?

You don't understand what I said, neither the S2 nor the New LC's get Wow Pows, but they both get the lightcore bomb upon entering the game.

Ah, I didn't take your post literally enough, sorry. Just was confused.. I like having all the skylanders (besides super rares), but LC's just seem so pointless then. Why they would "light core" one random character and leave out 1 old one from each element (Voodood, Dinorang...) just seems dumb. Meh, to each their own.

It might be easier to think of them in 2 separate sub groups:
The 4 NEW Skylanders that have LC versions (Pop Fizz, Shroomboom, Jet-Vac and Chill) are identical to their regular versions (ie, the "New" Skylanders are technically Series 1) The only difference is that they get the Lightcore "bomb" that the reposed Lightcores also have. The 4 reposed Skylanders that have LC versions (Hex, Prism Break, Eruptor and Drobot) are identical to their regular versions (the aforementioned "Series 1" figures) As for why they didn't include everyone, well.. your thoughts are the same as mine.

You can see it in store; online might be a gamble. From what it looks like, the GITD Cynder was a limited time thing, as some users have started seeing regular versions of the starter packs appearing in stores. Shouldn't be too hard to find one though if you go to a less popular Walmart.

It was the last one, though.

I should point out in case it hadn't been clear that the Newlanders, ordinary or LightCore, do not have Wow Pows. Only the Series 2 versions of the vanilla Skylanders have Wow Pows.
EDIT: Also I'll second what ItsJustMe said in that the Series 2 Skylanders can swap upgarde paths at will. (To do it, talk to Persephone after choosing their first upgrade path.) I would recommend you make the effort to buy some of the Series 2s. With some of them, the Wow Pows hardly have an effect at all, but for some the Wow Pows are absolutely game-changing! Chop Chop, Hex and Drill Sergeant are examples that come to mind when I think of game-changing Wow Pows, whereas Stealth Elf, Cynder and Double Trouble are examples of fairly useless Wow Pows you shouldn't need to bother with. One thing you could do if you were really wanted to know which Series 2s to get would be to look carefully at the Tier List thread: //forum.darkspyro.net/spyro/vi...ic=62608&page=1 You can look at where the Series 2 characters are placed and then look for their S1 counterparts: If there is a significant difference in placement between the two (2 or more tiers), then it probably means that the Wow Pow added to that character had a game-changing effect on their gameplay. (Keep in mind that the Tier List thread is only concerned with PvP, though.)

One thing that is different from Lightcores to series 1 (talking Lightcore Eruptor to the original Hex) Their stats are a bit higher. So they are not "identical."

I hope this is easier to understand:
S1 -Increased level cap to 15 New Characters (Jet-Vac, Flashwing, Hot Dog, Shroomboom, Pop Fizz, Sporcket, Fright Rider, Chill) -Level 15 Cap "Returning" Lightcores (Prism Break, Eruptor, Drobot, and Hex) -Level 15 Cap -Lights Up -Once every level, when you put a lightcore on the portal it sends out a shockwave and damages enemies "New" Lightcores (Jet-Vac, Shroomboom, Pop Fizz, Chill) -Level 15 Cap -Lights Up -Once every level, when you put a lightcore on the portal it sends out a shockwave and damages enemies S2 -Level 15 Cap -Has Wow Pow Ability -Can swich paths -Unlocks Heroic Challenges |
