- The portal plugs into the Wii U console
- The NFC on the GamePad itself doesn't work with the game
- The wireless portals from the PS3/Wii work
- GamePad only play is possible with the TV off

It's only in Starter Pack form because there wasn't a Wii-U version of Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure.
Why they didn't release a Portal Owner's pack when the Wii/PS3 portal works with it, I don't know.
It's a stupid thing to care about, too. Sell the repeat figures and you're spending the same or less than the Owner's Pack. I mean, really, it doesn't take effort to do this. It does not take effort to sell Skylanders.
Not to mention the portal that comes with the starter packs for giants is a lot better in my opinion! No batteries! You will make up the difference in price in about a month,
I don't understand what the argument in the topic is about, if someone owns a Wii U only, how would they be able to play the game with just a Owner Pack? I don't understand the logic in it. Some are casual gamers that might only own a Wii U.
I think what the point someone was trying to make was that if the portal from S:SA works on the Wii U, then they wouldn't need to put the extra 15 bucks towards the starter pack.
Considering there are other portal packs that don't work with the Wii U version, it makes sense for them to release just the Starter Pack to avoid any potential problems.
