As of RIGHT NOW, this is definitely NOT going to be any competition for Skylanders. Calling it now. I want to see Nintendo's Pokemon version, which will be competition for sure.

Just judging from that one screenshot here, but it looks like it will be a lot like the Toy Box mode from Toy Story 3 The Video Game. The artstyle and the bar across the top of that seems to show some crystals and a ball, and has definitely had inspiration from that game.

For anyone that hasn't played it I can definitely recommend it. If i could compare it to any game it would be the Elder Scrolls; you can do the main quests in the game or you can go off and find side quests and collect different items from the open world. Yes the Toy Box mode from Toy Story 3 had a pretty small world but it lasted a decent length of time and had some wacky in game challenges to boot. There are plenty of videos on YouTube showcasing the game.

Needless to say that I am very VERY excited for his game.

EDIT: And after actually reading the article they seem to agree with me, which is awesome becuase they have seen the game running.

No. Please tell me this game is worse than other Disney games.

This'll fail. :c I already know it will. This idea is worse than steam trying to get into the console situation with "steam box". I don't care for disney, really. I also do not like how they buy/attempt at buying everything out, it's annoying. I'm sure people will buy it, if disney even goes through with this. But, I wont be one of those people. As for you people wanting an online multiplayer feature with skylanders 3, that's a bit more difficult for them to do than you think it is. :/ And; you shouldn't go expecting so much of activision. Sure, maybe they can do it, though it'll be a long time before we see it done, and if it be the 3rd game, we wont see it released for a while. But, it's harder to do than you believe it.. I would like an online feature myself, and I don't care how long it takes them to release skylanders 3, I'd rather them take their time with it, work on the characters, and the games plot, and gameplay for aslong as they can, and make sure it's better than the last two, than have them rush the games release so it'll be out next year.

Well, it already fails if this doesn't have physical characters. Even then, it has to be a fun game before I would buy it.

Skylanders this is not. Fail, this will.

Epic Mickey and Epic Mickey 2 continue to illustrate that even one of the strongest world-wide recognized characters will struggle when wrapped in an average game (Epic Mickey) and below-average game (Epic Mickey 2). Although sales data for EM2 weren't readily available (albeit I didn't try too hard), EM sold well the first month at 1.3 million copies in North America but slowed very quickly afterwards only attaining 2M units 6 months after launch in NA and Europe COMBINED.

I expect given the far worse review scores on EM2 that the sales figures will be even worse this time.

All in all, this actually makes me smile, not because I don't like Disney (I think Disney rocks, most of the time), but because for once people aren't falling for the "Ohhhhhhhhhh, Mickey Mouse game!! I am going to buy it because it has to be good!" Syndrome.

In short, expect SG sales figures to completely blow away EM2 when they become available.

Conversely, I am very optimistic about the rumors just starting which has Nintendo taking the Pokemon franchise in a similar direction as Skylanders when their first Wii U Pokemon title ships in the future!!!

I like the Epic Mickey games, because I love platformers. There are too few platformers in the 7th generation of gaming.

I think I'd go so far as to compare this to Minecraft, rather than Skylanders. As of now, unless the figures are really small or something, it'll probably have to be done with cards. There's just no way for them to have so many properties and choose even one from them and use them as physical figures. It just doesn't seem cost effective to me, unless they charge like $15 each for them.

IN GAME though, the characters look like figures. You can see in the first action image that Sully and Mr. Incredible have like joints on their arms.

If I do get into this... TWO RULES.

1. I will never loose sight of skylanders
2. U will only buy who I like

Skylanders = Flickin' amazing.

Disney is a powerful financial entity, but it is as Silver says; their game division leaves much to be desired. If you want an example, compare Disney Universe (I'll forgive you if you haven't heard of it) with S:SA. Disney may be at or near the top of the heap in the film industry, but Activision-Blizzard is literally the biggest dog in the yard as third-party GAME publishers go, and they will annihilate Disney on this. Just like they did last year.

Not only that, the majority of the Disney canon are characters that only mommy and daddy will seriously recognize or have any attachment to. The kids they're aiming this at will know Jack Sparrow, Wreck-it-Ralph, and some of the newer Pixar characters, but most of these figures simply aren't from their time, while Skylanders is made with kids in the year 2012 directly in mind.

They are using little discs that have pictures of the characters on them. I have been a semi-fan of Disney for a LONG TIME but this is crossing the line. I am angry. They had to go and copy Skylanders. I don't like Disney as much as I used to.

This is looking awesome as well. As expensive and wallet hurting as Skylanders are, now we get to go through it with Disney. Since they own the franchises, can a Star Wars or Marvel Version be far behind! Loving these types of games, but quite expensive. Also don't forget it has been rumored for while now that Sega is working on a Sonic game with the figures as well. Welcome to the future of gaming

If the gameplay of Disney Infinity really is a grander version of Toy Box mode from the Toy Story 3 game...

Skylanders is going to have to make some changes to their game. As a platformer, nothing really changes. There is a new look and feel to a level, but getting through it is the same. Skylanders slowly navigate through a world finding collectibles and solving simple unchanging puzzles. Toy Box mode is so much fun and because its open-world, Disney could make toys do just about anything in that game. Racing, outer space, western shooter, navel battles, etc.

I hope my wallet is ready to support both of these games.

Yeah, Toys for Bob needs to do something to compete against this. I know the Disney game may be simple, but still, the online alone will hurt Skylanders.

I haven't seen anything stating that they'd be in the initially group, sadly. The ones I want the most are Stitch and the Wreck-It-Ralph characters, as well.

So it looks like they listened to exactly what skylanders players wanted and implemented literally everything. And they have the licenses to make an almost unlimited number of already worldwide recognizable characters. And it is multi platform. And each pack will be a different style of play.
Disney is basically just printing money now. I am actually considering selling off skylanders just to buy more of this. Especially if they make a star wars or marvel add on

I'm kind of curious though as to what they'll charge for figures. Skylanders as it is teeters on that very dangerous line. Charge too little and you won't make a lot of money. Charge too much and people won't feel they're getting enough bang for their buck.

It'll be surprising if DI charges less than $9.99 for a single figure. If they do, we might actually see a drop in Skylanders prices for competition.

I'm very excited about this, but this all but kills my chance at buying any regular figures or things I like anymore. It's like every company just wants my money all at once.

I too might follow suit and get rid of my extra Skylanders. Based on the market value of the figures, I don't expect them to be more worth than the MSRP considering Activision made too many of the figures. One thing that Activision had going for them last year was the fact that the supply issues actually fed the hype around the product. We won't be seeing it this time with Giants since we've got plenty to go around.

I'll only buy this for the following....
