This time last year, we had roughly half of the Skylanders released.
Now, we have about 3/4 of them released.
They really need to slow down.

I think it's a good thing they're doing this. The games are too short for it to be stretched out over 7 months like the first game was.
Also, if they released ALL characters before Christmas, kids wouldn't be getting disappointed when they tell Santa they want a Skylander that hasn't been released. One parent on the Skylanders Facebook page mentioned how mad she was that her kid asked Santa for something that isn't even released. EDIT: I have to applaud TFB for one thing with Giants. They are keeping up with demand. It's nice to see shelves stocked, when this time last year, stores were bare. The only thing they could do to better demand, is to keep Giants themselves better stocked. Hot Head still runs out far too fast, unlike other wave 2 figures, who were packed in boxes of 12. I think they should have done 12 Giants to a box, but that's just me. Otherwise, one of three local TRU's here got 8 boxes of Wave 3 for today and Sunday. That's impressive, and I applaud TFB for keeping up.

Mm...there was 9 figures released after the new year. (as in characters, not chase variants and stuff)
We still have 8 more if I'm counting right, plus the 4 physical in-game variants. So we're about right on schedule especially if they end up doing the exact same wave amounts as last time. It's not so much as they're going fast, it's just that there's a lot more being released in the same time frame so it seems like there's a lot more out on the market. (there kind of is)

Mad about that? Maybe this is a good teaching opportunity for her to tell her kid that they don't always get exactly what they want, especially since TFB never promised anything as far as what would be out for the holidays. In business, it is better to not promise anything, then deliver some than to promise everything and only deliver some. In both cases you deliver the same, but in one case you are a hero, the other you are hated. It was her own assumption that TFB was going to release everything. I spent a lot of time asking my sons what they wanted for Christmas, so I could temper any requests for Skylanders or other items that I didn't know if they would be out/available/feasible. If they are, then surprise! There are a ton of Skylanders on the shelves, if you can't find at least a few that your kids like then it is best to move on to another game. I personally REALLY wanted Rayman Legends for Christmas, but that isn't going to happen. Should I go yell at Ubisoft that the end of February doesn't work out for my holiday schedule? And unlike TFB, they actually DID give a release date before pushing it back. |

What gamaster78 is saying when u have kids that believe Santa is real after taklng them to sit on Santa's lap and tell them what they want and they say they want thumpback, ninjini, or eye-brawl. The kids go to open gifts and find they didn't get the character then Santa no longer exsists. Then the child is mad at the parent for taking him to stranger to let down. When the parent could just tell them there is no such thing as Santa.

The bait-and-switch factor (and I don't really understand what their point was with this) is actively showing Hot Dog on every Skylanders game box (and the loading screen in Lost Islands), and have commercials featuring Thumpback - and not having either available.
I suppose the logic is to get parents to double-dip by buying "some" sort of Skylander to "make do with" for the holidays, then go back and get the ones that they wanted when they were available. And most parents will be ignorant of the waves and their structures - they'll think: "Great, this is going to be like that Wham-Shell thing I had to buy them through E-Bay last summer, it's sold out everywhere again." It's not "nice" business practice. But in the end, it will work. As for the release schedule, it's because they have 16 more figures (and more actively visible variants) this time around. They had already released more orange-base Skylanders than the entirety of the green-based Skylanders in existence (not including artifacts or "chaser" figures) before Wave 3 even came out. |

I am glad they released as much as they did so far. It's far better than stretching it out for 7 months.
However, as a parent and a person who loves kids in general, I hate seeing them be let down. It used to be that I could tell Santa, "Hey, I want a Blitzwing for Christmas," and all the sudden, I had him. Skylanders is the new thing, and in my opinion, TFB should release all figures over the course of October, November, and December (maybe excluding ingame variants), so that when any kid sees a character on TV and tells Santa they want that character, that character has a chance to be bought. As of right now, we are all speculating the release of at least Thumpback in January. That could be totally false, and we may or may not see wave 4 in February. I do appreciate TFB giving us this much, and making it somewhat easier this time, before the end of the year. However, I just want to see kids have some kind of hope in this world that's full of negativity and violence. What is the point of Santa, if the goal is to teach kids you don't always get what you want? That's why the parents should teach them at other times than a time when kids' eyes brighten up due to opening gifts. I mean, I can imagine some kid doing this if he/she asked Santa for a Skylander and actually got it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFlcqWQVVuU Christmas is a time of brightening kids' spirits. We don't know what any kid goes through everyday. Seeing kids happy at Christmas, is something I will never get tired of seeing. Christmas is a time to make kids happy, not fiscal year profits. I know Activision has a company to run, but there's always Call of Duty to do that. Give the kids the Skylanders they want. That's what I would do. Or, I would work around the choice of what figures come out before Christmas, by making all of the new ones available before Christmas, while keeping something like ingame variants, for later releases, or Series 2, or something.

Yes, but that is a constant issue. I have young kids too. They ask Santa for unreasonable things. You have to plan for it. You don't have to destroy the magic of Santa by reigning in expectations. The easiest way is to tell them that Santa shops at stores just like everyone else for some things like electronics. You don't promise them something that isn't guaranteed to be out in time - and have a contingency plan if something you expect doesn't release. |

Christmas and Santa are about more than just getting what you want. No one likes disappointing kids, least of all me. And mine won't be - they are scoring the motherlode in Skylanders and a WiiU, on top of other things. My son has seen the commercials and thinks Thumpback is very cool. But Thumpy isn't among the ones he is getting. But, no matter how much you want to see them have their complete list fulfilled, there are reasonable limits. My older son had 25 Lego sets circled in the catalog last year, among them the Millenium Falcon and several other $200+ sets. Your logic says get them all to see his happy face! And as a company, Activision is saddled with trying to keep this franchise exciting until next Fall. You know what also makes kids happy? Finding out a new figure they want just came out and getting it! I remember coming home and being surprised that my mom got me a Jawa (the rare figure of the original first 12 Star Wars action figures). The majority of the kids don't even have the game yet, they aren't like you having beaten the game to death and are waiting for anything new to come out. Mine haven't even played the game yet. There are also manufacturing issues to consider, their output is not infinite - they have to pick a smaller selection to run, you cannot just swap out the molds/paints/designs/cards/bubbles for a new run in a couple minutes, that takes days. They can't run every figure at the same time. I'm glad they have made sure what we do have is plentiful. |

I'm only speculating another packaging assortment containing Gill Grunt before long. As there is a new "special" Gilly on S:SU, this seems less like plain logic and more like certainty. As to whether he ships with any new singles, I would guess at least a couple. Probably Jet-Vac, a few of the already released guys, Wrecking Ball and/or Spyro, and that's it. I would bet a Giant comes out around the time of that lame assortment, but I wouldn't bet any actual cash on it. Probably around the time of Hot Dog at earliest, mid-Jan. at latest.

One thing occurred to me about this upset mom. TFB never promised us Thumpback before Christmas. The only thing that led to the belief that he was coming out is the rampant speculation from anonymous Internet people. Everyone at TRU this morning except me was there expecting to find Thumpback. That wasn't random, they weren't expecting Ninjini or Eye Brawl - they thought it would be Thumpback. Sure he looks cool, but why was everyone expecting the same thing? TRU never gave any hints, their ad featured the 3 reposes.
In my opinion, she has no right to be upset at TFB or Activision. She has people like forum trolls and the Ebay scalpers to thank for that, and their release dates and reports of having held him "in hand". TFB gave us more than I was expecting with Wave 3 hitting this week. I'm still curious about the results of those auctions for "in hand" Eye Brawl and Thumpback last weekend. We all know by now that it was a lie, unless they had an inside source that smuggled them out of Activision. Anyone have a link to them or follow up on the auctions? |

Actually, I was going to mention this earlier. When that one topic noted 3 Prism Break icons in Universe, meaning there had to be a variant, they forgot about one thing. Prism Break Series 1 registers, Series 2 P. Break, and Lightcore P. Break all register and have their own icon, thus 3 icons. Now Gill might, but when it comes to Prism Break, maybe the variants won't show up as special, because the 3 icons in my profile, match the 3 icons that one person posted.

Because they keep seeing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-U5qnoHIaw on television, and can't understand why you'd actively advertise something during the holiday season that doesn't exist. Periodot, it wasn't just that that had them believing a giant would be released. There are a whole bunch of posts on TRU facebook from people that apparantly don't know how to read and are pissed because of it. They inferred from the email that new "giants" would be released when it didn't say that at all. It just stated the game's name and that wave 3 characters would be released. I tried to set the story straight politely on a couple of them but my posts were removed, as well as the one asking why some store managers were insisting the email was a hoax in the first place.

Lawl, that was me. and there's four I don't have the S2 Prism, so I'm not sure if the one I have labeled "S2" is the right one, or the one I have in the red box is the right one. Which ever one it is, there's still an extra icon (note the S1 Prism Break icon is up on the row above) The other one is Sonic Boom. I assume that if you register a second "special" SB, it'll use that extra icon, but I don't really know. Then there's the Gilly, who's not used for anything and looks more like a LC icon to me. Speaking of this icon listing, Irate Gamer mentioned it on youtube which made me laugh. (i love his vids haha) So yeah. There should be another Gil to use the 3rd icon but..maybe it was just scrapped? I'm keeping my eye on Universe to see if this thing is ever updated again.

Understood. It's mostly just a case of people believing what they WANT to believe. If they hear through their brother's nephew's cousin twice removed that a new Giant will come out in Wave 3, they'll embrace that idea as fact - even if the head honcho of Toys For Bob stopped by their house and personally told them, "Nope, that's not happening." And then when it DOESN'T happen, they'll blame Activision and Toys R Us for "lying" to them. |

People will never be satisfied. I think they're doing a good job, they've shown improvement in everything except for the chase variants. There might be a concern if they release TOO fast, like what happened with waves 5 and 6 and the "filler" wave last year, but the quantities right now are very good.

So... wait.... Santa is not real? You have just ruined my whole life.
Anyways back on topic. I tend to fall on the side of they need to slow down a bit. However, they have been doing better with stocking these so far. We will see what happens after Christmas. The main thing that I would like to point out to people if they decided to release all figures at once, you have to realize that it is a whole crap ton of money. I saw it posted somewhere it would be like 1200 dollars for all figures. Not sure if that was fro variants or not, either way that is a lot of money. Most people don't have that lying around to slap down at once. Also, they could do a better job at putting different characters in the commericals. However, on this site you do not see people I want S2 Wrecking ball. You see people excited for the new Characters that have never been out yet. That is why they are in the commercials. |

Gill can't be the second flocked in wave 3, because he isn't a part of wave 3. Any flocked figures will be part of wave 3, like Stones were to wave 1 and Sparkles to wave 2, same with silvers in SSA wave 2, golds in wave 3, glows in wave 4, and clears in wave 5.
So, only these characters could have flocked versions, if there are more than just P. Break - - LC Drobot - LC Eruptor - LC Jet Vac - Flashwing - Pop Fizz - L. Rod - S. Elf - Eruptor - Stump Smash (oh the irony if it is) - Whirlwind (I am doubting this one) - Terrafin - Cynder (eh, I dunno about this one either) - Drill Sergeant

I agree wholeheartedly. My son has asked for the Giants for Xmas and can't understand why he wouldn't be getting Eye Brawl or Thumpback from Santa. He isn't spoiled and doesn't expect the world from Santa, but simply doesn't understand why Santa wouldn't be able to bring those to him. In his mind, he's been good all year and isn't asking for much. IMO, at the least, they should have made sure all Giants and new characters were out before Xmas. From a business standpoint, they stand to lose quite a bit if the kids who received the game for (or before) Xmas complete it before the new characters are out. They are also losing out on all of us parents who are more than willing to give them our money. Who knows how many kids will still have interest in Ninjini if she isn't available until March? |

Again, Thumpback - and that commercial - will be the bane of any parents that have kids who see it.
The youngest kids see the animated, talking Thumpback, and want him. Slightly older ones see the figure put on the portal of power, "know" that the figure exists since it was on TV, and want him. Even older ones see the "coming October" date with Thumpback under it, "know" that he's been available for two months, and will expect to be unwrapping him in three days. There was no real evidence to expect Eye Brawl, Ninjini, or even Hot Dog (despite the fact he's shown EVERYWHERE) before the holidays. But Thumpback? Yeah, I can guarantee SOMEONE will find a bored lawyer and sue Activision and Toys For Bob over false advertising and "mental damage" their child suffered over the holiday season. Sigh. |

I wish they released them all at once. After the kids play giants after Christmas for a month they quickly loose interest in playing. This game is for kids. Was marketed to kids and is a great fun game for kids. By the time they get all the SG figures S3 will be advertised and we are off to races again. I'd rather they get the full experience before having to go crazy again.

I doubt that S3 will be advertised/released prior to all of the SG characters showing up. I think that it's a fair strategy for the exact reason you stated. If the kids play through the game with the current released characters they'll have more to look forward to getting, and having a new experience playing through it again.

No no. See, there's already a "special" icon used for Sonic Boom. (the one for the GITD Sonic Boom, which registers as "special" in Universe and the games) The Glitter one could be what uses the extra icon (there's ones for S1 and S2 already) but I can't verify that. Someone would have to register both of them in Universe and see if the second one uses that second icon. If not, it was probably just a scrapped one. @Matteomax: The Flocked Polar Prism should use the extra PB icon. Right now, I'd wager the employee exclusive one just registers as a normal Prism Break. If not, then it'd probably use the "Special" icon, but then there's the problem if there's 2 register. I don't believe they'd reuse the same icon..but I dunno. Someone would have to register both to see. @ZapNorris: LC Chill is on the third row; regular S1 Chill is on the second. Unless you're referring to Chill being the LC for water? haha that I know, and I'm just kind of poking fun at the look of the icon. It's glowing, whereas the other 2 are not. So...ehh. Who knows.

Sonic Boom Glitter won't register due to the GITD registering. Now it has me wondering if a "Special" Prism Break will come out in stores? Same goes for Sprocket, Zook, Whirlwind, and Hot Head? Maybe Amazon will have another Bronze variant, or Walmart will have more GITD exclusives?
