These 5 are being released though I have only seen shroomboom at TRU

However the paper ad says 8 new skylanders....

I have no clue what other 3 they are talking about or if it was a typo. 8 is above the 5 on the keyboard...

toys r us doesn't receive shipments on weekends

might be a mistake isnt there only 8 characters in a box which could be why they said 8 to chose from. maybe they arent aware that the other 3 are already out and because the new 5 in the box they think that the other 3 are what people are looking for too

My TRU guy showed me the email this morning stating that the boxes that were slated for the 23rd are all S2 reposes (that have been mentioned earlier in this post - cynder, stealth elf, prism break, erupter, lightning rod) and they are releasing half tomorow and half on midnight the 23rd.

There is a Battle Pack which includes Scorpion Striker, S2 Zap and Hot Dog. That may be the missing figures that you're thinking.

well the gamestop ad says it's an exclusive to them for 30 days. It's a good guess but I don't think that's it.

People are getting their wires crossed. TRU employees are becoming aware of the Scorpion Striker through in-person conversations, requests for it, and social media. They don't have to know any facts to believe they have an answer.

It's coming in January, to GameStop, for 30 days. And that's all.

I chatted with the awesome Video Game Supervisor and GM this afternoon at my local TRU. They read out loud the printed email from TRU HQ as they were trying to figure the "plan" out themselves. The instructions are: The three figures shown in the email blast, Prism Break S2-Stealth Elf S2-Lightning Rod S2, are to be released at 6AM on 12/21. The "remaining" 12/23 figures are to be released at Midnight 12/23 where possible or 6:00 AM where not.

I fully expect mass confusion on the forums tomorrow as some TRU stores release all the figures in error; causing a feeding frenzy of what was and wasn't "suppose" to be available to purchase, who was right and wrong, and who got "jipped" and was "lucky"

I think that Cynder is the 5th, as the lightcore Shroom Boom was released today and is not in the box with the other figures.

Most likely it. Anyone who's "new" in any form (new in Giants, new pose, new as a Lightcore, newly available as a single character) could fit the description.

When you have 48 'common' figures in a set and only 16 of them are REALLY new, you use whatever pretense you can to advertise new content.

It does make sense. Makes a lot of it. They know that there's a swell of support for new characters before Christmas from a segment of the market that will buy ANYTHING, so that's what they gave us. Re-poses of LightCores, a non-Legendary Stealth Elf, an inconsequential Cynder single, and Lightning Rod. Most people don't even have the ones that are already on the shelf as far as Giants are concerned, and Hot Head is still considered "new." I saw a poor five-year-old leave empty-handed expecting Thumpback today, but he sure as heck still left with all the re-poses and Shroomboom as well.

The short answer? It's reposes and LC because they could sell empty boxes with that Giants logo this time of year. Save the characters who will drive up profits for a financial quarter where it'll make a difference; release one immediately after the new year to kick off 2013 profits (i.e. Cynder/Slam Bam/DT last year) and then hammer the rest out during late spring/early summer. I bet releases end around Easter this year as well, just as hype for the new game (TBA 2013) intensifies. The whole thing is math, a formula, and why deviate from that? Consider us lucky to even have Wave 3 at all, considering it was an unsubstantiated rumor until what... a week ago? And resume wanting the rest of the lineup in January.

It could be a misprint people are reading too much into.

I agree it's probly a misprint but there should be some sort of retraction somewhere. When Walmart or target do it they post an apology on the door.

Didn't mean you. Your post was pretty specific. I just happened to post below you by coincidence, about some fussiness over lack of a new Giant occurring elsewhere in the thread.

They had all the new figures out on the shelf at the TRU in Schaumburg, IL. The shelves were jam packed with Skylanders and they even had an additional table setup full with Skylanders. I also counted 9 Hot Heads hanging up! No new giants although the kid checking me out said they expected more to be released on the 23rd......he said Eye Brawl first and then maybe it might be Ninjini and oh yeah it could be Thumpback!..lol. In other words he had no clue and rattled off the three that werent released yet.

My Toys R Us is strictly adhering to the 23rd release. They restocked all of wave 2, but the manager wasn't allowing sale of wave 3. Even with myself and others showing the email they received.

I went at midnight last night and the same thing happened to me.

I shouldn't be the least bit surprised - the TRU closest to me is easily the worst in the state (Lenox Rd, Atlanta GA). Examples:

* When wave 2 came out, they would only allow one Skylander per customer. Since they all had one SKU, I could only get Flashwing. I had to drive up to Alpharetta to get the rest. Yup, the good TRU let me buy all the rest of them at once.

* When the Wii U launched, they had every game BUT New Super Mario Bros. Wii. WTF? No, they weren't sold out. They just didn't get any or couldn't find the box.

* And the nonsense last night.

As much as I love living in midtown Atlanta, I see now I took the suburbs' TRU for granted when I lived out there. Looks like I'm going to Best Buy on my lunch today.

Mine had 4 cases sitting out and cut open for us to rummage through. They hadn't put them on the shelves yet, but had obviously gotten the email about putting half their supply out this morning. The few other people that showed up were all expecting a new giant, and only got one or two.

I'm holding out for the triple packs.

I went to that TRU yesterday and it had several LC Shroomboom and LC Jet-Vac. I haven't seen a LC Jet-Vac at the Fayetteville TRU since it was initially released. I'm about to go to it to see if there will be any shenanigans there. It's been pretty good lately but I'm doubtful anything will be there since it's so late. Fortunately, it has been good about putting stuff out and, when it's not out, they'll go to the back to see if you ask.

Update - Best Buy was either cleaned out or never had them. I just ordered all four of the new ones from TRU online (got LC Shroomboom yesterday). I guess they'll be here in a few days.

As much as I do truly enjoy the hunt, I'm starting to feel online is the way to go. I've dealt with enough brain dead, snotty, clueless a-holes in the retail stores to last me through five lifetimes, and I'm just getting too old to continue to deal with some of the dumbest society has to offer. With a college degree, a great job, a fantastic wife, a baby on the way and WiFi, I just can't see any reason not to just forsake the brick and mortar stores - and their employees - entirely. With so many having a tough time finding a steady job these days, why is it that America's D- students seem to find work when educated, courteous, helpful people can't?

My TRU claimed all they had was Wave 2 releases. A bunch of people were showing the manager the email and he claimed the email was wrong and that it was a hoax. Then when people showed him photos from this site along with posts of others purchasing their wave 3 characters from TRU, he just laughed and smiled. So I decided to announce to the crowd that you can purchase some of them on Amazon and TRU and that the preorders were shipping out on the 22nd. Boy, did he get called a few choice names. He owes me one from getting crushed by that angry mob!

I got mine...
All 4 new release at TRU. S2 Prism Break, S2 Stealth Elf, S2 Lightning Rod and S2 Euruptor for 10.49 each. They bumpt the price to 10.99 but gave a .50 off for each figure. I will provide pictures after work tonight. My wife got the email last night and I took it with me this morning on my way to work. They had 6 figures at the Service desk that represented the email. 3 were already release, one was Cynder (Did not get her because I got it with the starter kit) the other 2 were S2 Prism Break and S2 Stealth Elf. I asked about the other 2 (S2 Lightning Rod and S2 Euruptor) and after getting the Assistant manager involved he went to the back, he brought out another box that had 6 characters (4 w2 characters and Lightning Rod and Euruptor). After buying the 4 new release I drove to Best Buy and low-and -behold they had one each of the 4 new release at 9.99 each. I debated weither to buy them and return TRU's but by the time I spent for gas, the $2 savings is no savings at all. Off to work...
P.S. Got my LC Shroomboom yesterday at TRU for $9.99. They only had 3, today they still had 1 left.

Yes, the price increase is in full effect. Not sure why some of the TRU locations are sabotaging themselves. The price hike is bad enough but to lie to customers is crazy. So, is the hope that by lying that they will come back on Sunday? The manager must not have known that the same figures can be had online and at Best Buy for cheaper. His TRU must be the only one close because his behavior isn't the same across other stores.

Just tell them to price match walmart cause Walmart hasn't raised their price

He probably was holding them for himself. They are very limited on what they can get out on the floor early (1 each for 12/21/2012 from what I have seen from TRU and Best Buy). During the purchasing of the 4 new releases the cashier jokingly said he must have been holding them for himself.

To be honest I saw Series 2 Stealth Elf, Lightning Rod, and Eruptor at my TRU before the 21st, I believe it was Tuesday or Wednesday. I didn't think they were the next wave, but I thought I took pictures.
