I went to GameStop today to buy some Giants because I only have Tree Rex. When I went there I see many normal sized Skylanders and only ONE Giant left, Bouncer, so that's all I picked up today. I was looking forward to buying Crusher, Swarm and if I was lucky, Hot Head.

Toys R Us has a much better stock than GameStop does. Try there.

Also there's a lot more regular skylanders than giants. Just on a numbers game it's more likely they are gone.

Try another store. Giants and regular skylanders are distributed separately. Situations where a retailer has a lot of one type of skylander and nothing of another means that the store is ordering or being shipped the wrong stuff not necessarily that anything is actually selling much better than anything else. If you try another store you may likely find different results.

I definitely have the best luck at Toys R Us and Walmart.

Also remember parents are more likely to buy giants because they " cooler" to an adult. Bigger is better. Christmas is right around the corner.

Giants are popular because they're huge, cool-looking, and light up. It's simple math, and yes, they really do sell faster than normal Skylanders.

The last Toys R' Us I went to last weekend had the most Skylanders I'd ever seen in my life. They literally had an entire wall of Skylanders and two bins full of both Giants and Spyro's Adventure figures. Look, I've never seen this many Whamshell's ever, let alone just one! Freakin' crazy! They had absolutely everything! Except variants of course. You can't get everything in life.

On day one, I went to Target, and they had only Giants. Then I went to Walmart, and they had plenty of everything but giants. It was because they were already bought. Kind of worked out though.

I agree that their is likely a larger demand for Giants than regular figures but since they are distributed separately this should balance itself out. If your selling 150 Giants a day and 100 regular ordering should adjust to buying needs. If it doesn't there is an obvious issue with that specific retailers replenishment system. Interestingly Giants are double packed to a case (3 Giants in a case) with the majority of regular figures being single packed with all series 2 figures only being one to a case and new releases 2 to a case. What should be happening in the case of shelf warming figures is specific characters should be overtaking shelves. If we do not see this and instead note that its actually whole lines of figures (battlepacks, triples, giants, regulars, lc's) this means that the issue is distribution and things will likely be real bad after Christmas again.

Of course things will be bad after Christmas again... They're going to release a Battle Pack with what might be the most anticipated character of Giants a week later...

As well as five times as many people will now be playing the game (having acquired it for the holidays), adding to the competition in tracking down the Final Four. Giants may sell out "faster" simply because there's only four of them (plus store-exclusive variants) to track down right now. Tree Rex doesn't really count, because he's not available by himself in either form. There's also the fact that the stores will sometimes "create" shortages if it the store chain says to. For instance, my local TRU Express was talking about how they had to sell 50 Legendary Bouncers this weekend or they'd get written up. And that was the ONLY Giant on the shelf. I go back yesterday after work, and they had a dozen Swarm, Hot Head and Crusher on display, as well as NORMAL Bouncer next to the Legendary one. MAYBE they got a large shipment Monday just AFTER the buy-one-get-one-half-off sale had ended and their "sell the bouncers" weekend ended, but I don't know if I believe that. (All things considered, though, they weren't really thinking. If the promotion was buy-one-get-one-half-off, wouldn't it make sense to have at least TWO different Giants on display?) |
