so just to make sure I got this right,

my 37 original skylanders are all at 32 Heroics, and I will get them up to 50 in Giants.

the 29 newlanders will cap at 45.

now the 24 series 2's, and the 9 originals that got new variants, can only reach 45 in Giants.
so these 33 skylanders will have to do 5 Heroics in the first game.
the 5 Heroics are: Voodood, Boomer, Dino-Rang, Chop Chop, and Zook

do I have all this right?

All the challenges from the original game can be unlocked in Giants so they will all max out at the same level

that is not true.
you should read Dark's "Giants: Heroic Challenges" guide before you post such things...

whilst series 2 do work in the original, i don't think new variants like legendary stealth elf will because, like the other new characters, she wasn't programmed into the first game

L-Ignitor and L-slam Bam do work on SSA but show up as Ignitor and Slam Bam.

Actually, Legendary versions of older characters will work in Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure but will only appear as their normal counterparts.
For example: 'Legendary Ignitor' will appear in the first game as simply 'Ignitor'.

So Series 2 skylanders and Series 2 legendary skylanders can reach 50 heroic challenges.
New skylanders and giants can only reach 45 heroic challanges.

Also older lightcores such as LC Prism Break also work in the first game and he would appear just as a regular Prism Break.
This also applies to LC Eruptor, LC Hex & LC Drobot.

finally we have people who know what there talking about.
anyway, to make it simple, any skylander that works in both games will max at 50,
while the ones that only work in Giants will max at 45

Everything the OP and Dragon-Master said is accurate. Of the 99, 70 will cap out at 50 HC's and 29 at 45. This is a grand total of 4805 challenges for completists.

Now the question, What challenges need to be completed first before upgrading a skylander?

In my personal opinion the only challenges that really become more difficult as a skylander gets upgraded are the HC's that are based around accuracy (Drobot/Zap/ and Double Trouble's) Most characters can still compete these as they become fully upgraded (in my opinion DT's is easier with a fully upgraded Cynder because her ghost only hurt trolls and not vases and pictures). Be wary of characters that loose accuracy and have massive collateral damage when upgrading before completing these three challenges.

Which begs the question - why do the packages for the Lightcores or made-for-Giants-Legendaries have a red X by "works with Spyro's Adventure"?

I suppose it's easier than trying to explain how they'll appear as normal versions without the Lightcore ability or the Legendary appearance, but it may well cost them some sales on returning characters from people who buy figures based off of cross-compatibility. Especially for Eruptor and Prism Break, who don't have an official "Series 2" figure yet.

my apologies, I heard somewhere that they wouldn't work in the first game, but i don't have any of the legendaries so i can't test it. I just thought that if the new ones won't work in the first game, then i assumed the new legendaries wouldn't either.

Yeah they have.....

Well, they'll exist EVENTUALLY, but you can't buy Series 2 Eruptor/Prism Break in the stores yet.

Or if you can, pick up a Ninjini and a Thumpback while you're out there for me. smilie
