I would give you a less blurry one, but there isn't. This was with a bunch of other ones that were already really small and pixelly. It should give you the rough idea though.

The colors are visible, that's all that's important.
Do you think the more burnt-orange/fire-red would be nicer than a crimson/blood red? |

A mix of the both. Even giving it some semi-shading would be an interesting concept.
Good luck, by the way. |

Not the best images, as all I have access to right now is my camera phone, but I can always get more later.
Here's some images of the Jet-Vac I just painted: I did start the Sprocket, and while the rest looks fantastic, the face is a bit messed up. I don't typically work with white paints, so it's just not up to par to what I want. I find white/black or any very strongly pigmented paint has a thicker consistency, and I didn't calculate for that. I think there's methods one can remove paint from a plastic model, so I may attempt this and restart. I hope I can, because I'm VERY happy with the way the rest of the Sprocket turned out! |

Aye, that's the plan! I'm going to see if I can't fix up that Sprocket tonight.
Unfortunately, supplies for such a hobby can be expensive, especially whenever you decide to expand or need to find particular figures. My goal is to perhaps sell a few, if only just to fund making more! Haha. |

Here's a sample of the colors I went for with Sprocket, no face shown, as that's the bit I need to fix (Boo, hiss, I hate white). In this case, I'm grateful it's blurry!

Sure thing. Has anyone removed paint on a model before? Most really awesome products for removal seem to only be available in the UK. I have an idea for a method, but if anyone has any tried and true methods, feel free to share!

Getting the blue was a little trial and error. If you look at L happy he's like blue-black-purple and has a hint of green. So I've been using AC Moore as my paint store, using FolkArt brand acrylic paint. The colors I used to mix the blue were: thunder blue, pure black and bright green. Two drops blue, two drops black and one drop green. Mixed up well. Like I said a little trial and error though. It really is an almost perfect match. Spray a clear coat after it dries and it will have that sheen like L- Happy.

Found some nice paint I liked and finally cracked down on doing a custom I've wanted to do for a while- a Legendary Tree Rex!
I need to find some sort of glossy stuff to paint over him to make him more like the Legendaries, but overall I really like how he turned out. The blue isn't quite identical, but I really like how it dried. Gold was really stubborn for whatever reason so I had to go back and do it multiple times.

You can buy high-shine/slight shine spray glazes at most craft stores, or even just wal-mart. High shine may be a bit too much, but the spray-on glaze is the easiest option. If sprayed too close, you can get bubbling though, so be careful.
If you want to try your hand at a brush glaze, Mod Podge gloss is a decent light gloss finisher. It's also good even just for finishing purposes to prevent acrylics from tarnishing/fading through time. Thanks for the comments on the Jet-Vac, also. The reasoning for the bright/many colors in this case were to mimic that of a parrot or a general tropical bird. I like to refrain from many colors unless a specific concept calls for it. I may try my hand at a legendary mimic sometime. If I come across some spare Terrafins, I'll see what I can do in that occasion. Being crappy and in Canada, I never had an opportunity to get any sidekicks. D= |

Try either: Painting the figure with a primer paint (usually found in a spray can) or use any paints specifically designed for models. I use paints from Games Workshop myself. That line is relatively easy to find and affordable, but other kinds work, too. Make sure you're using model quality acrylics. Enamel-based paints (They usually come in square jars, and are for different types of models) will ruin your figures, so stay away from those. |

Indeed, Games Workshop (GW) have primer spray paint in both black and white.
I have not customised any SL figs but have done a fair amount of GW fig painting in my time (Talisman figurines, anyone?)

Talisman indeed. Though, I'm waiting to paint myself some 40K Necrons if I ever save up enough. D= I've been tiding myself over with Skylanders, haha. I have a Swarm I'm waiting to do now. I find with the Skylanders, just the GW paints are fine, sans primer. Primer is useful for certain shades and effects, though. For instance, if you're learning how to do lighting/shading effects, you can use black and white primer. Prime the whole figure black, then at a properly far distance, spray white from the desired angle. It'll not only show you where you'll want light and shadow, but it'll enhance the colors in appropriate ways when painting. Handy! |
