Not against the rules, but search "SkylandersEditor2.0" It's very complicated, but look for one called the decompiled version. You have to actually create the Editor From Scratch, and it only gives you the files. Not worth the time :/

Seems like a trivial thing to loose faith in humanity for. These days, you never know what a piece of electronics might be able to do. Seemed like a valid question to someone that just didn't think about the ports.

I shook my head at the premise of running a Windows app on an iOS phone (i.e. sans virtual machine, etc).
Sure, the code could be refactored to work on it but that is a non-trivial change.

The amount of modding (physically) necessary to do anything like this on Xbox is far more likely to leave you with a broken system than the ability to hack Skylanders if you try it at home. It's not a process that can just be done with things you have around the house, if that's what you're thinking. Best not to bother with this and just wait for the figures, because just setting up the ability to TRY to hack is expensive, time-consuming, and again, likely to break your system if you're not experienced with "cracking" consoles to do things like hack games in the first place.

Hacking the game really isn't a smart idea. The game might become unplayable and that Skylander Editor 2.0 was mad by the same guy who got into legal trouble with Activision for hacking the game.

Showing and giving instructions on how to hack a game just to play certain characters isn't really a good idea.

You ask me, out of the other users who said the same thing several posts before me... Anyway, although dark himself approved of showing gameplay videos of the hacked characters of Giants, posting how, Activision would most likely take action against the person who explained his/her hacking

They do. One of Swords posts here on occasion, and probably lurks more often than that. That is literally Activision monitoring us, I don't know what else to tell you. And that's just the rep we know about; the internet is a more public place than many of us care to admit.

What does hacking a Skylanders game really accomplish? Besides playing as a unreleased character that can't properly use their attacks?

And risk Activision sending you a letter that they are aware of the fans hacking the game?
Yeah it's all fun and games until they received a warning letter from a game company that publishes the game.

And the cease and desist is honestly a courtesy. I don't believe they have any legal requirement not to just sue you outright if they deem it to be worthwhile. The nature of this game is that figures be purchased, which makes it an interesting precedent legally--for the first time, hacking a game for personal use actually does influence the ability of the company to make a profit. This is seriously not the same as using a few hacks in Call of Duty, and I don't think that's being fully understood by the pro-hack crowd in this thread.
Speaking from a strictly legal perspective, hacking Skylanders would be considered by Activision to be theft of property. Like it or not, they own your ability to play as unreleased characters. They do. And if people like us have enough legal savvy to explain and understand this, do you really think their lawyers aren't equally aware? Please understand that this is why everyone is jumping on you for wanting to hack the game. It's for your own benefit, trust me. |

I have a feeling some fans would still try and hack the game, even if it meant getting a warning letter from Activision.

Yeah. If young Skylander kids learned how to hack a Skylanders game from the web and started doing it themselves, it's a possibility they would get a warning letter from Activision telling them that they're aware of the kids hacking into one of their games. If the kids' parent(s) saw the letter, a severe punishment would be imminent, such as the removal of their children's Skylanders game, the console, the toys...

It's what I would do as a parent. It's a pretty big deal to be threatened legally by a game company, even if they usually have no intention of prosecuting. If I felt my child was putting our family in any kind of legal jeopardy, the game that caused it all would be the first thing to go.

If you post the hacks online on a website, Activision could just use an IP tracking device or contact the website email, and locate where you live.

I'm curious - any of you internet lawyers have any examples of existing case precedent to show hacking on-disc data to be illegal? I'd love to see this.
And no, Activision (or whomever) saying it's illegal and sending out a C/D does not make an action illegal. As far as I'm aware, there's no court precedence to say this is illegal and, depending on the route taken, there's little reason to believe it would be illegal to do - assuming someone had the money and time to fight off Activisions army of lawyers in court. Dear Activision - I've hacked Skylanders figures. Come at be, 'bro. 618.384.6938. Quote: spyrocrash

There was an incident of a hacker tinkering with his Portal of Power and he posted his research in a .zip file on his personal website. Activision found the site, saw the file, and sent a legal, cease and desist letter to the guy, accusing him of all kinds of nefarious hacking deeds and demanding he take down all his work at once.
