On the adverts I saw the portal glow up brightly when you put a Skylander on the Portal of Power.

On online videos they jjust put it on and nothing happens

The new series 2 portal doesn't have sides that light up.

Imada, it sounds like you are noticing the differences between the Series 2 glow in the dark portal (which was a temporary Walmart/Sam's Club Exclusive including Glow in the Dark Cynder that has started to phase out now) and the regular, standard portal which does not light up on the sides. The GITD portal is NOT thick, opaque plastic (like the standard one), but is more transparent so the colors of the lights shine through the portal's sides!

Yes, it's constantly glowing with the different colors of light... and when you put a skylander on the portal, it does get even brighter

And while summoning it changes to the color of whatever element the fig is.

You can barely notice it. But the rock is clear and light shows through it, which is awesome.

^ Yeah, the lighting is what's so awesome imo too... I leave the portal plugged into the USB so as long as the PS3's on the colors are illuminating!! I love that i don't have to worry about replacing battering like with the old PS3 portal too!

Yeah, it did have batteries... which is pretty inconvenient for someone who plays a lot! I went through a TON of AA batteries!! lol

I want Activision to come up with a glow in the dark optional Bluetooth or corded version..that would be sooo..cool. Because I like to play it on the big screen and the cord gets in the way..especially if there's company..danger factor. I really do prefer the looks of the glow in the dark version especially on top of the Battle Arena. I have just resorted to rechargeable batteries and then I change it when it runs out. Much cheaper in the long run. The Energizer Advanced batteries seem to last longer in it too. By the way the Walgreen's brand of batteries are the worst!!!
