So if you go look at the guest book on my profile, someone posted "you know Granite Crusher isn't a variant right?" Which he then, proceeded to explain.... By giving me the definition of a variant and telling me it says Granite Crusher in game. So I really don't understand what he's trying to say.
I, however, explained to him that it is a figure variant and an in game variant, to which I received more confusing statements.
Just read my profile comments and post here that Grabite Crusher is a variant because he apparently doesn't believe me???

This. Anything that has a different paint scheme qualifies as a variant. Some people will say if they don't show up different in game they are not a variant. |

There are two types of variants: variants, and ingame variants. Granite Crusher is ingame. The gold, silver GITD, crystal, etc. are regular variants.

To be 100% honest the first time I put on crystal red drill sergeant and he was the same as the old in game I was 100% disappointed. Why have it look different if it isn't going to be in game different. Granite Crusher is a true varient imho others that aren't different in game are kind of a scam.

Granite Crusher is a variant because he's a different color than regular Crusher. |

I call them true variants. They look different in game just like punchy and gnarly. The others I just call variants. I feel the "ingame" or true ones deserve more title because it reinforces the core concept of skylanders. Toys in our world but alive on the inside. This is just my opinion. Anyway, regardless of how you feel about that he is undeniably a variant of some sort.

theres lots of different kinds of variances in the characters. What everyone needs to know is that Crusher and Granite Crusher ARE NOT the same exact character in terms of stats and such. However, Granite Crusher will fill you "Crusher" spot in your collection on Giants. So if you're wondering if there is need to get both, the answer no, unless you're an avid collector. All of the variances have small boosts in armor and critical hit. GITD, and not-labeled variants are not these kinds of different characters, however, even though they will show up as "special" in the game.
EDIT: however, the GITD might have preloaded characters or something like that. |

well yeah. but its not going to have a greyed out Crusher if all you have is Granite Crusher. I think if you had three Granite Crushers, it'll list three as well. So basically for the game progress purpose, all you're looking for is one of each of the orange base characters. and the series 1 non-reposed are just bonus characters that are not required. |

Wait, so you're saying that the game counts multiples of a single Skylander?

Yeah, Giants will. I think it is a way of giving credit for Blue Bash, GITD's and WERDS.

I'll have to test this out myself and get back to you guys on this one. I'm pretty sure when I loaded up my Blue Bash, it still counted as a regular Bash and didn't unlock any extra features.

All of the series one figures that were variants Blue Bash, Flocked Stumpy, WERDS and GITD ones will still show up as regular in giants. Now your giants variants will show up as Series 2 Special, Gitd Cynder, Amazon Flameslinger, Gitd Sonic Boom. This way they are harder to fake. |
