A lot of people seem to think wave 3 will be out this year , soon. I would like any of those people to bring hard proof that is going to happen. Please.

I have a better question - Do you have any proof that wave 3 won't be out this year, since you definitively claimed that in another thread? Plain old common sense tells us that wave 3 should come out before Christmas to take advantage of the most profitable buying season of the year. If you are going to make claims like yours, you need some hard evidence.

Why would it come out before Christmas? There are a lot of Giants Packs out now..

No, that wouldn't be common sense at all, because that was a mistake on Activision's part, and they said so. They didn't realize how big Skylanders would be, and under produced them. They have made it clear they will not do that this year. In fact, that goes beyond common sense into the realm of right in front of your face, since they flat out said they this year will be different. Now again, knowing all this, where is the proof that we will not see wave 3 this year?

The question is how important is it to Activision to get the Skylander fan's money in 2012 instead of 2013? Anyone know how they have done as a company so far this year?

That's a good question Skylandscaper, but I still can't imagine Activision would want to lose those holiday sales. If a kid wants Hot Dog and Thumpback really badly, those are the ones parents will be looking for. If parents can't find them, they might spend those gift dollars on Ninjago or TMNT instead, and once those dollars are gone, they are gone, at least until next year. And make no mistake, Activision knows which characters are going to be the most popular. I guarantee they have marketing teams that have been devoted to finding that out.

i still say that it wouldn't be surprising to see it out in January like last year. They have already released a ton of figures and they do have to spread it out to keep skylanders relevant. If they did release wave 3 before Christmas how long do you guys think we'd have to wait until wave 4?

I see your reasoning but i still believe that wave 3 before christmas is wishful thinking. There are what, 16 left to release not including variants? how many waves are planned anyways? 5 like last year? I am hoping for 4 waves. 8 each wave. Besides i woundnt mind waiting, there are plenty of skylanders to keep people occupied for a while and after so many being released at once and it being the holidays i am low on funds lol come to think of it even if they do release it before christmas will we even see it? they have to sell through a lot of wave 1 and 2 still. Everywhere around here is overstocked

I despise the fact that there are so many of these 'Wave 3 Speculation' type of topics all over the thread....They are getting kind of annoying....Sorry but hey, Wave 3 will come when it comes....We should all just accept that and wait however long it is that we need to....

I think the most pertinent part of what you just said is that you are low on funds. The desire to wait is wishful thinking on your part, which I don't understand since they would be there waiting on you if they were released now. Anyway, nothing you have said counters any of my points. There isn't nearly enough gameplay to keep kids occupied for close to a year, and that's what matters. Once kids stop playing the game, they will stop buying the figures. Some kids might go back and replay the same game again, but most won't. Lost sales. Also, if parents spend those gift dollars somewhere else, they are gone and that's it. Again, lost sales. Your personal desire for Activision to wait doesn't negate the fact that last year was essentially a mistake on Activision's part, and they admitted it. That's a fact, and there is no getting around it. Also, in another thread, you just said there weren't enough Skylanders to buy gifts for people? How can they be overstocked, but yet not have enough for gifts? To quote Marshall Erikson - "Lawyered."

Of course, the flip side of this argument could be, what if Activision made a similar mistake and--unlike last year, when they underestimated demand--OVERESTIMATED demand? If they're hearing that stores are overstocked (and based on what I've seen where I live--there seems to be plenty of them out there), that might cause them to hold back on putting out more if the current ones aren't selling as well as they thought.

then they may be holding back for a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggggggggggggggg time to get the stock down so wave 3 can be released. cause once everyone has what they are looking for in wave 1 and 2 the whats left will just sit there and sit there. and they may not ever bring them out. unless the stores wal-mart, target, kmart, bestbuy ect send so many of their extras to their online stores that might help their stock get under control. that way people that live places where the wave 1 and 2 characters are hard to find in their area can order them online that way everyone can get a hot head or whatever character they are lacking due to demand in given areas. then wave 3 can be released without leaving a big overstock of wave 1 and 2

i honestly don't care >.> It's only convenient to have funds when they new ones are found. Perks of working at target, i can check every day if there are new ones. They eventually make it to all the stores, people just need to learn to be patient honestly. If the whole point is keeping kids interested then releasing almost all of em in such a short time period kinda counters that. And my points weren't meant to counter yours. Neither of us have the slightest bit of proof other than opinion. The release dates of the waves last year seem to have been just fine, their only mistake was not realizing how big the game was gonna get and not making enough figures. Nobody could find ANY was the real problem. That problem looks to be solved this time around. And apparently my sarcasm went over your head in the other thread SSj3 Derek -.- (I made it Bold now) it was relating to what you were referring. The fact that none have shown up on ebay means that people will know a bit in advance when any new characters are available.

Not enough game play? Most kids won't even have this game till Christmas. So then they will still have all the figures that are out right now. Then in January they can get new ones and keep playing. Then February or march they will want more. Also why would someone saying wait need the proof? Shouldn't the people saying soon be able to bring some proof. Like the people working at target or gamestop that would have emails about the release of them.

So is our going to come out December 2nd??? That's what people are saying, and i need to know because I'm going to wait outside the day they are released.

im going to keep checking every morning a truck is unloaded and stocked so i can get my characters before scalpers do. at least be there the same time.

StarNinjini it's just a rumor, i wouldnt waste time waiting out in the cold for something that might becoming out. And crazyace which stores are you looking for them at? Cause Target and Walmart generally have a truck every night.

To Employees, Each Wave is marked on the Boxes. Wave One has a small box outline with W1 inside. Wave 2 has the Outline with W2 inside. If it has W3, it's Wave 3.

Activision's goal is to string this out as long as possible - at least as long as last year. Activision's mistake wasn't the release schedule, it was not having enough product on the shelves for demand, and manufacturing figures isn't something you can churn out overnight.

Right now there are plenty out for the parents buying them for their kids for Christmas. Sometimes it is hard to remember that the gamers that have already been playing the game aren't really in the majority on this. I'd wager that the majority of the Giants games sold haven't even been played yet. I know mine hasn't, I have the XBox and 3ds version and a bunch of the figures sitting in the closet untouched for Christmas morning. Most of the people at TRU the morning it was released were buying it as a gift as well.

I personally expect Wave 3 in January. Got to have something for the kids to spend their Christmas money on here. And it will probably have 1 giant, 1 or 2 lightcores and 3 regular, assuming they follow the 5 wave schedule they did last year to spread them out. There are 3 giants, 8 reposes, 4 lightcore and 1 new regular left to be released. Also 1 more legendary and 4 more known variants, but those don't really line up with waves anyways. Those that are expecting 2 or even all of the giants and Hot Dog to come out next wave are having wishful thinking. Sure it would be great to wrap up the collection early, but then they have only reposes to tide people over for 10 months until part 3. Activision is fixing last year's mistake by having lots of figures and a good variety on the shelf, instead of endless Boomers and Drobots, if you could find anything at all. I really doubt they want anyone finishing up their collection prior to April at minimum, that part worked out great for them - it isn't very common to have your game be front page news on the websites 6 months after release, like when the Waves came out last year. It also carries them right up until E3.

I think it is prudent to remember that it matters little if Activision release new figs if the stores don't put them out on the shelves as the shelves still have stock that they want to get rid of.

Want to speculate? Ok. Make one thread an everyone do it there. Why do people need to keep making redundant threads. There's a search function. If you can't find it try alt and f4 at the same time.

^ This. They just came out with Gnarly Tree Rex, Royal Double Trouble, Legendary Stealth Elf, and (to a way lesser degree) Glow Sonic Boom. They are releasing figures at a steady pace without even using full waves to do it. Granted, many of these are pack-ins, exclusives and perks, but there have been plenty of opportunities nonetheless to expand one's collection since the end of the previous wave.

it is what it is. I have given up all hope of anyone containing speculation here. Theories, opinions, and fiction are more of a priority on this site. If that isn't your thing (like me), just skim it until you find what you are looking for. Even a topic of "What we know" can remain untainted. *sigh* I had high hopes (naively) for that topic... Oh, well. Thankfully, I have an adult group for Skylanders info, too.

I want eye brawl as much as the next guy. But I like them being spread out like this. What am I gonna get for Xmas? Series 2 and lightcores. I've held off getting them while I was getting the new ones. I still need granite crusher but I'm pretty sure ill get him this weekend now that there's like 20 at each of the 6 targets around my house. Plus on top of s2 I need regular pop fizz, bouncer and crusher. All these things aren't priority but I'll get some for the Xmas time and go back to new guys with wave 3. Hell I still need the orig legendary 3 pack. There's plenty on the shelf to sustain the holiday season. Wave 3 in January (early) is a great idea. That's what gift cards and Xmas money is for. Genious really.

Remember, when it comes to the holidays, they also need to space content around standard players, not just the completionists.

If memory serves, they determined back in June that about 97% of the players of the game didn't even own ONE Skylander of each element. (No idea who came up with that number or how accurate it is - probably based on the overall number of starter packs sold and the overall number of figures in each element sold compared to the number of portals out there.) Not sure how valid that number was, and it would also include people who got the game as a gift, played it once and never looked at it again, so it's not entirely accurate either way.


As far as Wave 3 and timing, there's a certain amount of store pressure. If stores want the figures to improve their 2012 sales and agree to "buy deep," they'll come out next mouth. To a certain extent, Activision doesn't CARE if they sell once they're on the shelves - they've already made their money.

I am actually ready for Wave 3. I just got my yesterday, and that completes my set for Wave 2. I'm just waiting for the Legendarys, Lightcores, and my Granite Crusher for Christmas.

I hope that wave 3 comes before christmas.

It would be nice to have them all for my kid (and be done with this store stalking).

Regardless, you won't be "done" even if Wave 3 does come out, because there will be more waves. You are going to be store stalking for a few more months yet, at minimum depending on your definition of "done".

I'd like to have them all for my kids too and not be standing in line at TRU early every time a new Wave came in. But it isn't going to happen. Putting everything on the shelves now just kills the craze early. It means you don't get those big reveals in the coming months of new waves coming out. It means the news isn't covering your game several months after it comes out. It is terrible marketing.

Remember the average customer isn't you or me that runs out and buys them all on release for our kids. The primary customer isn't Gamemaster or anyone like him that buys 4 of everything that comes out. We are such a tiny percentage of the customer base. What works for us is far different than what works for the average customer. People like my neighbor, who's son has SSA and maybe 10 figures, who bought the Starter kit only because I pointed out the value over the Portal Owners Kit, and has maybe 5 figures (of both SSA and Giants origin) to go under the tree with it. Anything that comes out before Christmas is just "stuff that is already out", and he already has everything he is going to get for Christmas. However, after Christmas, when his son is playing the game if he sees a news story about 3 new figures that just came out he will notice it, and might even drop by the store to pick one up.

To save everyone the belly-aching, let me break it down like this.

No proof of wave 3 this year for numerous reasons.

1: Let's go to the Wrecking Ball S2 at Walmart thing. Wave 3 would be all over Ebay if that were the case. Walmart dude didn't sell a S2 Wrecking Ball.

2: Skylanders Facebook page kept going on and on stating "More Skylanders before the end of the year." They're not saying any such thing now. They would usually start teasing characters weeks in advance. Hasn't happened, and we are just 2 days away from the last month of the year.

3: They gave us way more in the span of 1 month and 1 day, than what was given during the first 2 months of launch of the first game. 48 characters, plus 6 Legendaries, plus 8 ingame variants, and we have 32/48 characters, 5/6 Legendaries, and 4/8 ingame variants. All within the span of 1 month and 1 day (L-Stealth was released in the US on 11/22).

Now then, if anyone remembers Paul's latest interview with FGTV, he stated their intent on releasing more than half of the characters before the end of the year. He made good on that promise in the span of 1 month and 1 day. He doesn't need to do more, because 48 divided by 2 is 24. TFB gave us 32, and even if we count the ingame variants and Legendaries, which makes for for a total of 62 figures for Giants, we still got more than half of 62 on new core Skylanders, Giants, and Series 2 alone (32 as of this moment).

They made good on their promise of more than half of the characters available before the end of the year, and they don't even have to count the Legendaries or ingame variants to say they did that. Out of the 62 official Skylanders for Giants, they gave us 32 in the span of just 2 days. They met their quota.

Another common sense reasoning why we MAY NOT see wave 3 until January, is because at my local TRU alone, they have a crapload of boxes of wave 2 singles and Giants flooding the top of their aisles. Why stock wave 3 when you have a crap-ton of wave 2 everything, in the smallest TRU in my city? I can only imagine what the bigger TRU in my city has, which is probably double that.

I say January, at the earliest. I don't like the fact such short games like Skylanders are drawn out for months, but at least we got in the first month, than we did in the span of 7 months of the first game's launch.

The Ebay thing is something that cannot be ignored. If a Wave is imminent, you will see several "IN HAND" auctions show up on Ebay. If someone gets their hands on a figure early, either through a mistake or nefarious methods it is likely going to show up there first, with pictures for proof - not just the stock photos. There are too many stores out there for security to be foolproof. Nothing that is unreleased has shown up yet.

You aren't going to have a store that just gets one in by mistake that an employee remembers seeing at some point. They probably saw a S1 Wrecking Ball or a Pop Fizz, we know the difference, but an employee may or may not, and even if they do they see a ton of figures go by. I had a TRU guy that actually collects Skylanders insist to me that another store had an Eye Brawl ship to them. That's not how manufacturing and shipping works. When the Wave hits there will be several of the unreleased figures in it and it won't be an oh, I think I saw one of them a couple weeks ago.
