I don't know if this is old news, but I don't think it is...
I was playing Skylanders: Lost Islands when I noticed that the legendary Skylanders had a different bio then their regular counterparts.
This is what it said:
"For centuries, Skylanders have competed in gladiator-style events inside epic arenas of sport, where only the greatest of combatants become immortalized as magical, golden statues that stand and watch as guardians. These are the Legendary Skylanders. Whenever the world the world is in peril, special Portal Masters can bring theses statues to life and summon the Legendary Skylanders to defend Skylands against any evil that threatens it."
I guess that's why there are Legendary Skylanders.

Wait, what?
OK, I can see Slam-Bam, Ignitor, Bash, especially Stealth Elf, and POSSIBLY even Trigger Happy beating out others in their elements. How Chop-Chop, Spyro, and (ugh) JET-VAC ever managed to win such an award against their respective elements, I have no clue. Thanks for sharing that, Ridinggrl27... Didn't know that info, so it's pretty neat to see that they thought about it in such detail. |

Jet-Vac has a heroic backstory, sacrificing his wings to a mother of young Sky Barons trying to escape somewhere.

I can see how Spyro would get a Legendary counterpart, as the first game was named after him. But there were others from the different elements that would better hold the award. In my opinion though, I think the SSA Skylanders deserve the title more then the new ones.
Drobot for example, since he can be pretty un-deafetable sometimes, instead of Trigger Happy. Bash I'm pretty happy with. Chill was a good choice I think as well, but I don't think they needed to add Slam Bam. Would have preferred Gill Grunt, since he's pretty popular. Ignitor was an okay choice, but I would have picked Sunburn. Would way rather of preferred any of the Undead Skylanders over Chop Chop, except Fright Rider. I could perfectly see Sonic Boom, Warnado, or Whirlwind being chosen over Jet-Vac. Stealth Elf makes perfect sense to me, but Camo could have made it. Remember, these are only my opinions, so don't take them too seriously |

How would Bouncer have been able to defeat the other Giants, though? I can see him beating Swarm, possibly even Ninjini. But Eye Brawl, Crusher, Tree Rex, Thumpback, and Hot Head? Lol no way.

Karl, you are correct. Spyro has established Legendary status from all the OTHER junk he had to go through BEFORE being a Skylander. I'm now OK with him as one as this makes obvious sense after you pointed it out to me.
Matt: Sacrificing your wings is a noble gesture. But it said they won in an ARENA. I don't think the whole "turn the other cheek" approach works there for becoming a victorious gladiator. I can see Drobot not being one. Not because he is weak (because he's stupidly strong), but because his backstory says he was a smart baby dragon who only recently built the armor that he wears. I'm willing to chalk it up as he was too young to compete, back in the day. Gill Grunt is still my favorite water, though Slam-Bam is close. I can EASILY see Slam-Bam wrecking faces, he's a beast, and in this generation I bow to the fact that he is now better than Gill Grunt by a WIDE margin rather than it being neck-and-neck like in S:SA. Ignitor is, pardon the pun, a firehose of damage and great at mixing melee, AoE, and ranged beatdown. I would have been happy with Flameslinger if it came to it, but Ignitor seems definitely the choice of the guy to beat. I don't see Hot Dog's backstory fitting much as a gladiator anyway, and he'd be more like Drobot in the youth department. I'm totally OK with Chill, more so since she and Slam-Bam made it. Eyebrawl, leave your Bouncer slander behind. Bouncer has the highest base speed of any Giant, decent speed, and the ability to launch a pair of guided fists for 80 damage at his foes from across the map (which only rarely DOESN'T hit a giant) not to mention can 'brawl' like a melee up close with his bouncing shots. Aside from Crusher (who has an elemental advantage), I can easily see him squeezing out a win since things are more 'even' in the Giant tier. It's not like comparing, say, Jet-Vac to Lightning Rod. |

I can see jet vac getting a win. Remember it's not just about stats. It only takes one lucky dodge to turn the tide in one match and BOOM champion. Same goes for the others.
Btw chop-chop is a beast. Shield+lifetap sword = winning, duh

Wait, I have an idea! Activision may put two characters they think should become legendaries and duke it out in PvP mode. (Both managed by Expert players) The one that loses doesn't get a Legendary remake.
If that's what happened, I'm not surprised only a few meleeists, and a lot of long ranged attackers made it.

I can see Bash beating Terrafin. Terrafin can be invincible the whole match but a right-played Bash can outrun him. Not to mention knowing TFB they would probably pick Brawler for Terrafin.

Bash can survive a belly flop, and charge up the Gaia Hammer to do insane damage.

Bash rolls at terrafin. T-fin thinks he's a badass and will just pick him up and toss him. Smooshed fin. Fin seems cocky.
I don't think it's in game battles that decide a victor of a legendary match. I think it's more of a theoretical thing.

It seems they don't pick the most powerful skylanders to be the legendary, but they pick the most famous ones. I can't see Spyro taking down Voodood or Double Trouble, but he is the main character of the first game. (I think, since his name is in the title). Bash was the first Skylander made, but I'm not sure about Chop Chop or Triggs. Not sure why they chose Bouncer, but my guess is because the other two really popular giants already had variants (Gnarly Rex and Granite Crusher). Slam Bam, Stealth Elf, and Ignitor were definitely chosen for their strength, being the biggest powerhouses from their elements. That leaves Chill and Jet-Vac. Jet-Vac was likely chosen as he was one of the first characters announced at E3, along with Pop Fizz who got his Punch Pop Fizz variant. Still not sure about Chill, Triggs, or Chop Chop though...

Well, don't forget Spyro is legendary PERIOD. As in, he was THE most well-known character when Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure was announced. The gaming public is more than familiar with him due to his own series that came before this. Trigger Happy was a lot of people's favourite from the SSA Starter pack and he had a decent sized role in a lot of the advertisements (and is even in the intro to the first game). Chop Chop, I have no idea. |

I'm OK with Trigger Happy. Even though Drill Sgt was better, in my opinion, he has historical backstory of being trapped underground since the Arkeyan Age, and accidentally freed by Terrafin. So I can see him 'not competing'. Likewise, Boomer (who would lose anyway) was probably still with the Trolls learning HOW to blow stuff up. Effectively all the OTHER tech were unable to compete, so yeah.
As has been pointed out by others, Bash can EASILY defeat Terrafin, especially prior to Wow-Pows. Terrafin can either try to brawl and lose, or he can try to do his belly-flop and either get a charged up Gaia Hammer to the face or get hit by a combo of Rollout followed by the regular Tail Slap. Either way, it's a losing proposition for him. I just wish the 'old' Legendaries could get the new Wow Pows. All of them are a GREAT improvement on their abilities, and in Chop-Chop's case, something absolutely necessary. |
