Doing lair of chaos over and over in SSA is very tedious.

If you want to level up play chapter 15 over and over again.
If you want much money play chapter 16 over and over again ore use the gameroom cheat.

Essentially, it's doing the elemental door thing in the gameroom over and over again. I don't know if it's necessarily a cheat though because it seems to have been done on purpose.

Level 15, The Lost City of Arkus is best for Leveling up a character (with 4 EXP Luck o Tron wheels on, easy mode). You can pretty much get a character to 15 within the hour, doing the level about 5-6 times. That's really it though for leveling- no other level is anywhere near as decent as 15. Mainly it's just that the enemies there drop a ton of EXP- The Trogs, the Trogmaster guys (I think that's their name. The ones that make the pinchers into large monsters) and the Robots that make the shield and shoot a laser all drop large amounts of EXP.

Honestly, 15 is just as good for coins too, although I'd say to max out the abilities first and have 4 Wealth Luck o Tron wheels on. (same thing, easy mode). There's 2 giant pincher guys near the end of the level who you have to defeat (they're not made from the Trogmaster) and they each drop a gem worth 70 gold. In the beginning of the level, the Water element gate also has 2 crystals in that have a 70 gold gem in it as well as the area off to the side of the gate (I think the story scroll is down there?) There's a breakable object that has a 70 gem in it too. That's not to mention the 5 areas with the stacks of gold and stuff. (2 in the drop down area where you have to push a block, one up past the key and the Giants walls are, one down on a ledge where the large rolling barrel is and one more up on the ledge in the area right before the Robo-Ball puzzle)

That's what I've been using anyways. In the course of about 5 days I maxed out all my new characters (11, playing about 2-3 hours a day)

You know, Arena Battles are also good for EXP, and they give you Gold at the same time. I don't think enough people give them credit in general.

if you like playing with a particular char for lets say 1 hour.
18k gold is decent for 1 hour in my opinion.

If you just replay a 5 minute level 12 times that's 24k, though.

Besides, if you want a less grindy alternative, they're there. I just feel like pointing it out as everyone seems to completely ignore them.

Don't replay anything. Here's how to level fast:

1) Load up the Luck-O-Tron with EXP wheels, just like you would gold wheels while farming money. It's highly important to remember to do this.

2) Go to the final chapter, specifically the Kaos boss battle.

3) DO NOT HURT KAOS, or hurt him as minimally as you can.

4) Let him spawn minions, then defeat them for EXP. He will shoot wave after wave of them, infinitely, as long as he is left alive.

5) Mop up. You should be able to take approximately five characters to 15 before you accidentally defeat Kaos and have to go back through the level.

As for money, I discovered a fast infinite gold method just a couple days after the game came out, and posted it here: //forum.darkspyro.net/spyro/viewposts.php?topic=63863 - I think it will solve your every problem in that regard.

EDIT: Both of these methods are faster than anything you can do in S:SA, including Kaos' Lair and the Dragon Chest exploit. The new game is just plain easier to max characters on.
