I hate HighSchool Musical so I didn't care. It was really strange though! I was like me, my friends random, people and boys o.0

Lots of great parenting going on these days. They must not realize there are these things called "weekends" when school is actually not in session. Not to mention "evenings" when there is no school EVER.

Yeah exactly.

This should be reported to the school because okay first of all, that was illegal to take a kid out of school for a stupid video game. Second of all, so what the mom could've waited til the weekend. Finally, the only thing awesome about it is getting reported. That was a stupid move.

What time do you normally get out of school, and what time did you get out of school that day.

Even though you were done, you could've had more things to do.

Its not illegal to take a kid out of school to play a Video Game. The parent can take their kid out of school for the day for literally anything. It only becomes illegal when the student missed x% of the school year. At which point, the student is considered truant and must either repeat the year or file Home-Schooled documentation. And even then, if the students grade havent suffered the parent can plea for a dismissal. And if the school day is 50% completed the student is not penalized at all. He gets credit for the full day

One day for a video game is not bad. Its great parenting. Im willing to bet they wont take him out of school for every single video game that comes out. But something like this is certainly a great thing do on occasion. smilie

Not really. It was a mistake on the employee's part. Its not ILLEGAL but if the store manager found out then the Employee may get written up for a stern talking-to in order to make sure it didnt happen again. -shrug- Its not THAT big of a deal though. He won't lose his job or anything xD Unless...this isnt the first time he's done it. IN WHICH CASE yea, he'll get fired.

Hi guys, just seeing what's up with Skylanders. Wow it seems a lot! I do have a comment, so give me one minute. Jakesterg, I can't believe your Mom would pull you out of school to play with your new toy. Just because you have all A's don't mean squat! If your school finds out, you could get all zero's for all the work you did do. My son is a honors student and I would NEVER take him out of school to play with toys. As for the error at the store, it should have been brought to the cashiers attention so that the error could have been corrected.

The school (no school, anywhere, ever) will change his grades to failing because he played video games after his mother took him out of class for the day. Thats great that your son is a Honors Student, but when you're a kid its not healthy to stress over grades ALL the time. You need to remind your kids to have fun sometimes too. Its healthy!!!

And yea, the error should have been brought the employees attention before your mother walked out with the game, but in all honesty, no use crying over spilled milk right?

For everyone crying over the fact that Jake got to get out of school early for the day - Jake's mom has got it right. Those of you talking about reporting her are the ones who actually need to be reported. My mother was the same way with school, when other kids got to do things like this. I grew to resent school so much I stopped trying, did barely enough to slide by, and got mediocre grades at best. Guess what, that didn't stop me from serving my country, or getting my MBA. Childhood is short, and should be enjoyed. Some of you need to learn that. That's a far more important lesson than any you will get in a public school.

Also, for those that are going to flame me over this because you think getting an "honor roll" bumper sticker is more important than your child's happiness and well-being - how much of what you were taught in school do you use? Heck, how much do you even remember?

Jake - Enjoy your game time. You earned it.

Hey! I once got out of school like after 2 periods in my 7 period curriculum...Just to go on a surprise trip to the lake! And I wound up doing very fine for the rest of the year!

As for Jake's case, guys, give the guy some slack...He's got good grades. So what if he had missed one day of school?! Did it make a difference in his life?! Even until now?! No it did not...So for all of you guys who think that it is wrong, then get this: Life is Life, things will happen when and the way they happen...Be them good or bad.

The poor guy just wanted to share a story with you, no need to attack him or his parents. By doing so, you're basically showcasing to everyone that you're an idiot who is either jealous, or just enjoys trying to make other people feel bad to make yourself feel good. Is your life really that bad that you feel the need to waste your time writing out a post that does nothing but scream negativity? Jesus Christ, breed compassion people. Positivity is the way forward.

I think your story is awesome jakesterg and your mom sounds really cool.

The fact you use the word 'mature' to describe yourself makes me laugh, but okay.
Do you not understand that what you think is just your opinion. If that's how you would raise your kids then great, but who are you to judge how this woman is raising her son? We do not know the OP's backstory, we do not know what is going on in his life at the moment. Maybe his parent's just wanted to treat their child. Maybe they were rewarding him for something we don't know about. We simply don't know, so therefore we shouldn't jump to conclusions, judge and then try to enforce our opinion as a singular way of doing something.

When you look back at your life, what's going to mean more? The time you went to school for another day? Or the time when your parent got your out of lesson to have a day of fun? (in this case, playing a video game)

Of course education is important but it's pretty clear that this sort of thing must never happen to the OP if he felt the need to make a topic about it.

The time and/or back story are irrelevant. I'll use caps like you did to make my point. IT'S A VIDEO GAME. I realize this is a forum built around a video game, but people need to get their priorities straight. Parents aren't supposed to be "cool," they are supposed to set an example, and this was a bad example. This is a teachable moment for future parents. Yeah, it's my opinion, but there are a lot of people who agree with me.

Too many parents these days try to be their kids friend. They don't need another friend. They need more parenting.

Do you not understand that what you think is just your opinion.

Just gonna agree with this, really. I know kids who have skipped school on purpose, but know what they want in life, who have gone on to become successful with a high end job. Then I know some kids, whose parents believed schooling was the only way forward, who have in fact become the least successful, merely checkout staff at a supermarket, in comparison to the others.

No one should judge parenting skills unless the child is in pain/distress, IMHO. There's no way of saying what is right or wrong until that child is grown up.
