Okay what? I've been playing Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure and now I have a Whirlwind, but she's not functioning well either. It says "a toy on the portal has a problem" again! And the method Alliana suggested worked on Spyro, but not too well on Whirlwind. Any way to fix Whirlwind too? I got this one from a friend, so it's pretty special to me.
What's worse, the head fell off and also while I tried to access my file, I got a blue screen of death and now I'm back at the start of the game. And Whirlwind isn't work in Skylanders: Universe.

If you have the 3DS Version, it will recognize it broken and you can just reset/fix it there.

You can fix these without having to reset them if you have the pc version by hitting alt-tab while the toy is being read, unplug the portal then replug it, then tab back into the game. Done this quite a few times to fix my toys without resetting.

A last resort would be contacting Acivision, asking them any questions, then ask for a replacement..

Does any of your friends have the 3DS version? You will have to bring Spyro round to them!
Or use your own! (if you have one)

It's on Activision's customer support, and I've told someone this before and they said it worked fine. |

This is Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure I'm talking about, I don't have the systems required for Giants. And none of my friends have Giants, that one friend of mine wasn't interested enough to buy Giants.

Does that mean you're playing on a pc?
If so, did you try the alt-tabbed disconnect I suggested earlier? I'll try and find the YouTube video I found the tip on if that will help you. |

Can't find the video again, but I'll try to put the instructions point by point
1: Open your game and put the problem toy on the portal, wait for the error message to come up 2: Use Ctrl+Esc to Return to your desktop, leave the toy on the portal through the whole process 3: Unplug the portal from the USB and wait a few moments 4: Replug the portal, wait moment for it the connect to the pc, then bring your game window back up 5: You should see the summon video as you tab back into your game but this time the error should not come up Have done this many times myself and has worked every time. Even had to fix 2 of my toys the day giants came out. Try again, and be patient between the steps. Good luck |

That worked great on Spyro, he's back and he didn't lose any data!
...but now, Whirlwind has a problem.

Your whirlwind sounds like it needs replacing. If the RFID chip has somehow become corrupted to the point the game is not reading it then there's no way to fix it as the hardware provided to play the game simply reads the original data preloaded on the chips and alters small amounts, not the entire thing. In order to fix yours it sounds like the data need to be rewritten completely and as Activision put the gag order on anyone looking like they are even remotely decyphering the files in the toys, even having the ability to write would be useless without the code.
Best thing to do is either buy another or try contacting Activision for a replacement, though I do remember reading somewhere that in the US they only provide a 180 day warranty on the toys, so probably easier to buy another. Edit: corrected where I expressed my point poorly. |

It writes small amounts of data, basically changing existing data. I'm referring to to ability to completely rewrite code or to replace the code with the pc version and the portal. I realise it's possible the 3ds version may be able to fix this situation but as the pc version is finding the toy too corrupt to even get the the problem toy point this is not likely.
But I should realise this is a forum, and despite your best intentions to assist the OP in thir problems, someone will always pick out the tiniest things you may not express well enough, even if their post has little or nothing to do with the topic and simply to do with picking on someone. You must have a lot of free time. |
