Okay, so In S:SA, the game explained there were 32 toys of Eon's remaining Skylanders, which actually were the frozen characters stranded on Earth, and we sent them back temporarily by putting them on the portal.

The Giants went missing from Skylands a thousand years ago (or some large period of time), presumably banished to Earth frozen in toy form until now.

So in that case, what the heck is up with the Legendary counterparts, the new Skylanders, The Lightcores, the series 2 figures, the adventure levels, the items, the sidekicks and the alternate counterparts (dark, punch, gnarly, granite, etc) toys here on Earth as well? There's no explanation, at all. They just exist. Obviously to make money, but still. An explanation would be nice, seeing as how the entire franchise is based around the premise of 'they ARE the character, stranded in toy form). In the Giants Intro we even see SA figures, they're not even series 2 versions.

So what's the deal? Anyone have any fan theories? Or something I'm missing. This has really been bugging me lately.

Well, I follow the somewhat popular theory in buying a Skylander toy, you buy a part of their soul.

Going with that I always assume that Legendary, Punch, etc. variants are just discorded parts of their souls. Parts that have been changed, wether for good or bad, just changed somehow, when they were heading in from Skylands.

I need to write something about this and Soul Gems... Too long since I've really done that.

New Skylanders
Assuming that S:G is happening a few months (or maybe years) after S:SA, the new ones joined in the time period between S:SA and S:G

I imagine it like this...

Legendaries are special skylanders chosen by eon to gain new powers..

Other forms are another state of power developed by that skylander in their own special way. (ex, Pop Fizz drinks new potion after Shaking It=Punch Pop Fizz)

Now... turn your eyes to...

Also, I've seen a fan-fic written by TheSpyroFan12 where the Legendaries were created by using DNA samples of other Skylanders.

That won't explain how they got turned into toys, my guess is that they were from the team all along since before S:SA, but they weren't found until Giants.

I don't mean why do they exist in the universe, I mean why are they toys? Why is Spyro a series one and a series two and a legendary and a dark figure, all existing at the same time if he's the same character?

(The legendaries, I always thought of being the Skylander temporarily empowered with the spirit of Eon, the two working together in one body so to speak, so he can augment their powers. For anyone who cares)

Flashwing's backstory actually tells how she was born, fully formed, because of magic.
With that in mind, some of the new skylanders are canonically new, joining after S:SA

IIRC, Shroomboom is from Kaos' gardens, but escaped. He may have joined right after S:SA

OOOOH
STORY FOR POLAR WHIRLWIND

There was a time when kaos has a ray gun that did nothing more than turn whatever it shot into a complete jerk. He had an idea. He had Glumshanks preform the awkward task of getting a Unicorn and Dragon together to make another Unigon. Kaos blasted the newborn with the ray, but it did more that expected. It created Polar Whirlwind. Her first act of Action? Killing the Unicorn and Dragon. Kaos was pleased. He sent her out to fight. After a run-in with whirlwind, they fought. At the end, Polar was contained in deep freeze. After a while, she had a change of heart. Still in a Polar Prison, she trained. After the giants were re-introduced to skylands, A Boulder-Throwing contest mishap freed the Skylander. However, the was wisked away to earth when she appeared.

But why do we call her Polar Whirlwind? Because her Heart is as cold as the Polar Wasteland she was trapped in.

lightcore story

8 skylanders tasked with activateing a portal o powah which is only possible if a skylander from each element send attacks at each of the symbols it has happened multiple times before this. but something different happened this time each of the skylanders were drained of they're energy comepletely as they put to much energy into it. they thought it was over and that it was powered up but the extra energy was shot into them. they started to glow, when they went to tell the others it stoped. every now and then it flares up giving them extra power after being put on a portal sometimes the flares even change the pose of they're statue

Granite Crusher Story:

The Giants Fight Scene:

So, when Crusher gets banished along with the other, something happens to him.

He remains one.

But his soul becomes two.

He exists in two places at once.

In one place he is embued with the power of Granite, to create a distinquishable difference between the two "halves".

So Crusher and Granite Crusher are the same, but also seperate*.

*Same goes with the Legendaries, except...

They are embued with DNA from past Skylanders. When they were sent to Earth, the magic draining out of them contained a piece of their DNA. Where does this drained magic go? Earth. It is just seperated from the SOME of the Skylanders. Those "SOME"'s magic manifests itself into a second "half" of them, but upgraded because it is just PURELY magic. PURE magic is more potent than magic mixed with a Skylander. The Legendaries ARE mixes of Skylanders and magic BUT were originally magic so they keep their "extra magic" powers. Then, when their outside body is created, it connects with the soul of its original host and the two become one, but in two seperate bodies. Therefore, Legendary Bouncer, etc. ARE their regular form, just in a seperate state.

Same ALSO goes with Series 2, LightCore, and all varients.

(Physical only varients had magic that was not strong enough that split to make a distinquishable difference in SKYLANDS but a difference on Earth.)

theory's

Legendary: Eon has been leading the skylanders for many years and has seen many skylanders come and go. However, there are some skylanders who wished for more. A long time ago, a group of skylanders turned evil and wanted to take over skylands. To stop them Eon created the legendary's. They were infused with the DNA of their regular counter parts but made stronger with the help of Eon's magic. Now that there are legendary skylanders Eon dose not need to fear that one day, the skylanders could become evil.

Alternates (dark spyro, punch pop-fizz, light-cores, etc): The skylanders learn new and enchanting powers when they are off saving skylands. However, sometimes they can find ways to change themselves into new versions of themselves. But a very interesting thing happened when the skylanders were sent to earth. Some of them were split. Their alternate halves were sent to earth in the form of new beings. Luckily, these new versions of the skylanders still fight for skylands on the side of their regualr counterparts.

New 8 skylanders: they got sent to earth in the first game but werent found until the second game.

Taken from the Toys "R" Us product description of the Skylanders: Giants Legendary 3-pack featuring Ignitor, Slam Bam, and Jet-Vac at toysrus.com:

For centuries, Skylanders have competed in gladiator-style events inside epic arenas of sport, where only the greatest of combatants become immortalized as magical, golden statues that stand watch as guardians. These are the Legendary Skylanders. Whenever the world is in peril, special Portal Masters can bring these statues to life and summon the Legendary Skylanders to defend Skylands against any evil that threatens it.

Good enough explanation for you?

I don't think the 8 new skylanders would've been sent to Earth along with the others. Instead, I think they were recruited in the months/years in between SSA and SG, but they decided to go to Earth with their friends.

Series 2: On their many adventures, the Skylanders have discovered many great things. But one discovery eclipsed the rest. A machine found in the basement of a Troll Factory. Curious to see what it did, 24 brave Skylanders stepped into it. The other 8 stayed back, so they could get help in case something went wrong. When the machine turned on, it created Stronger, Faster, Upgraded versions of the Skylanders. They immediately got off on the wrong foot, and each Skylander began battling with their double. The original Terrafin threw his double into the machine, and it exploded. Spyro, surprising everyone, including himself, shielded his double from shrapnel with his wings. Spyro 2 was grateful for this, and they all realized they were on the same boat. The original Skylanders took their doubles back to Eon, who recruited them to fight alongside their originals.

Lightcore: The Skylanders once found an interesting machine inside a small cave. Interested to see what it did, Pop Fizz, Chill, Drobot, Eruptor, Shroomboom, Hex, Prism Break, and Jet-Vac stepped onto it. The machine hummed for a couple seconds, then turned off. Suddenly, a secret room opened up, and out stepped a double of all the Skylanders who were in the machine. These Skylanders were different: They were born with the light of the core. When the other Skylanders tried to activate the machine again, it shorted out and died. The lightcore Skylanders were taken to Eon, where they were recruited as Skylanders.

I say that some skylanders and giants went into a machine and that cloned them... When the clones came out, they fell into multicolored paints that a related to the variant. I.E. Rock Whirlwind and Rock Zook's clones fell into semi-dark grey paint...
