Hello. I tried 3DS portal of power from Skylanders Spyro's Adventure in Wii Version of Giants and it doesnt work. Why?

Because the portals aren't interchangeable,also the 3DS portal is much smaller than the Wii one

Actually, the 3DS Portal worked with everything but the 360 version. You could use the included USB cord for comparability with the console version.

Regardless, I don't have a fix, sorry...

The Nintendo 3DS version uses wireless IR sensors that sync with the Portal's IR sensors. The Nintendo Wii version of Skylanders Giants now uses a wired portal therefore making it incompatible across other gaming systems.

If you use a usb cable, the 3DS portal works on the Wii version. I have been using the original 3DS portal on my Wii for both the original game and giants since it does not need batteries.

So we can use the 3ds portal with the cable it came with to play giants on Wii?

The cord from the new portals is a USB so it should work with other systems, unless wii is only one with USB.

I can, without a doubt, confirm that the 3DS portal from S:SA, along with the USB cable that was included with it, works without a problem on both S:SA and Giants on the Wii. That's how I was playing it last night.

I can Also confirm that the 3DS Portal works perfectly on the Wii I have played through Skylander giants with nothing but the old portal and while I did have a problem recognizing the portal once (the USB port wasn't working nothing to do with portal) after pull out power unplug USB port's put kettle on, plug back in USB's the portal responded properly and I continued fine.

1. If have trouble with 3DS portal just remember unlike the USB wireless receiver the portal MUST be plugged in when/before you power on the system, I always find plugging in the portal turning on then off Wii. then turning on and playing as normal always works but I found the 3DS portal is NOT hot plug-able.

2. If the 3DS portal is not working try a different USB device, e.g. Wireless Portal, Guitar hero controller, or USB flash drive (anything with a light was what worked for me including wireless receiver for LED light) to test the USB plug

3. If the Portal still isn't working with your Wii turned on, plug in the 3DS portal, pull out the power cord and wait 5 sec's, then plug in power and try again

If this doesn't work I haven't any other ideas, normally the only problem I have is No. 1 the other 2 only ever happened once, hope that helps

PS I have a PS3 wireless Portal (which is actually the same as the Wii version and the 3DS portal (using included wire) and can confirm that they both work on the Wii (Spyro's Adventure + Giants), PS3, and PC (both Skylanders : Spyro's Adventure and Skylanders Universe) with the 3DS also working on the 3DS too,

I dont know what is the problem and i cant find solution. It keeps saying that i didnt connect portal. Skylanders 1 works great. Tried both original disc of giants and iso with USB Loader and it doesnt work. Could it be that its because my Wii is softmodded (I usually have original discs and i only use softmod for emulating old games i own)

I have kids so I'm in kinda the same boat all my games get copied straight onto the hard drive then put up safe, my soft-modded Wii is the same, as I said try power cycle and swap around USB stuff. if you want my help trying to figure out cIOS and stuff send me a PM

you have to use Use Hermes cIOS 223 in CFG. and have your hd in usb port 1 and the portal in usb port 2.
You might need to update some cios files too. i dont know anything about the wii giants cause i dont have it (just ssa)
also almost everyone here will be calling you a bad man for having a softmodded wii.

(i personally use copies in my systems so i can keep my original discs safely stored and never scratched up, same with wii usb hd stuff. otherwise i scratch my discs cause i sit them down somewhere instead of putting them back in the box)

your one lights up purple? Mine Blue, are there different colors for the portals? my Wii portal changes color depending on the element but the 3ds just lights up blue or is it just the picture?

thats the blue light shining onto the orange plastic base of the figure.

Why would i be bad man for softmodding my wii? I want my discs clean and unscratched

I've actually Found that lately the portal is "forgetting" it's plugged in, well it's happened a copy of times but I'm just putting that down to little ones but a quick unplug and replug seems to work

With that portal with Crusher on it, it has to be
A.Connected with the infared from the 3DS version or
B.Connected with its cable somewhere.
Cause I tried out my old 3ds portal by itself and it never works with the lightcore effect.

A. 3DS version.
When it's just lit up the Portal light is only a LED. You need to connect it with a game to start the NFC which activates the character shine.

Yeah, I actually tried to use a Giant I bought in S:SA for 3ds and it didn't work, but at least I found another way to light them up

The game has to actually be booted up for the lightcore effect to work. It's not like the big portal that will work so long as the Wii is on.
