1. The story is told in an incredibly bland fashion with horrible dialogue (bonus low quality audio!) and bad graphics inbetween levels. The cutscenes do nothing but slow down whatever action the game has. The story has merit as an idea, but otherwise, there really isn't anything good about it- Frightbeard doesn't feel threatening whatsoever, copying the characters over from the console series feels cheap, and the NPCs in the levels are all frustratingly pointless.
2. The levels are wider... But absolutely, a hundred percentfully much easier. A lot of enemies can be KOed in only a few hits with low level Skylanders, while the original boasted that with maxed Skylanders in the first worlds. Most of the areas are just hidden behind Giant gates rather than actually being hard to discover and none of them feel challenging to jump across. In short it emphasized wayyyy too much on the platforming; the action side suffered for it and thus the levels in general.
3. The new Skylanders have really mediocre movesets. It's really as simple as that for Point 3.: none of them are fun to play for... Well, I'm not quite sure why. They just aren't any fun to use.
4. The environments are uninspiring. They're all very overly simply designed and then that means there aren't really levels with any fun gimmicks as well. But really, the levels feel boring to explore. And copying Flynn's ship in VIRTUALLY EXACTLY was very cheap and boring.
5. The framerate is awwwwwwwwful. Worst in a 3DS game I've ever seen. I don't know if this is just something wrong with my copy, but it's seriously peeving me because I can't play the game acceptably... It really shouldn't be this bad, on any copy. The whole thing became botched to me because of this issue. As an extension, the game is also very glitchy with a lot of moves.
I'm really trying to like it, but it just bores me, and honestly, at this point, I'm not even motivated to finish it. I finished the first set of worlds and does anyone who played it know wether it gets better later?
I guess the console version will be my preference this time, huh.

sounds like the 3ds version is just done as an easy cash grab... is there a option to reset the giant if they cant be read by the consol game anymore???... this option was one of the biggest reasons to own the first 3ds game so you could fix your broken(unreadable) skylanders....

So I've played it some more and the sand levels are actually decent...
But I've only played an hour's worth and there are only about 13 levels to go. ; The level of difficulty is nonexistent, the game is too generous with Coins so in the off chance someone faints you will probably have so much you could revive them ten times. There's no pressure in this at all because the jumping is ridiculously obvious and there are barely any enemies that will even get to hit you. To top it off, none of the objectives are difficult at all. I think the main problems with this are the lack of anything special and lack of polish. Mainly the polish part cause that is affecting the former. This is just a very poorly made amd stupidly easy Platformer that has bad level design where the only enjoyable parts are the action ones and even those are passable. No, I have not been hunting the objectives yet. However, I doubt any of them will bring the level of frustration as, say, Coldburn. I usually unintendedly finish two or three missions along my first run of a level. Overall, ludicrously, thoroughly disappointing wether you consider SSA in the equation or not. |

I found the 3ds version for SSA a bit frustrating. I def enjoy the console versions way more than the hand held. Its good to know this one isnt very impressive. But i want punch pop fizz! haha i'll probably just get him on ebay....

Then you will like this one better than the first, Tupelo. While it has the same style of upgrading, the gameplay feels like the console games, only with jumping and platforming involved. You even get keys in this game, unlike the last, and certain gates won't unlock until you've beaten enemies.

Waste of money. Console version is more fun because of the upgrades and the harder, and plain better game!

That may not be true to everyone. I haven't played S:G 3DS yet, and I appreciate this thread's review, however I still say there's value in an open mind. The last game had pros and cons over the console version. It was more challenging, but the run-from-Hektor concept was atrocious.

That's the best way to find out. Not to stereotype, but I don't listen to fat slobs who sit behind a desk and review games, while calling themselves professional game reviewers, when we know some sites take money to give better scores. Bottom line, the best thing about being a human is deciding for yourself. Don't let ANYONE convince you. Not someone like me who loves the newest game on 3DS, and not Nib who dislikes it. YOU DECIDE! To be human, is to make your own decisions in life. If you're a puppet to everyone elses thoughts, you aren't human at all. Quote: WUMBOSIMPSON
I don't call myself GameMaster for nothing, but even the 3DS game was tough enough for me to die and miss platforms. I never once died in the first 3DS game. Had I not needed to write today, or wanted to wait and get a copy of the game with a Tree Rex whose arm glows, I would have already beaten it by now, because it is that fun. I still haven't beaten the first game, because it was way too repetitive.

No, I meant 3DS. The first 3DS game was so easy, because all it was, was running and jumping from island to island or fighting waves of enemies between each level.
This new 3DS game has caused me to die more than a handful of times, because when enemies hit, they hit hard, even on Giants. This game is just better in every stretch of the mind. It isn't just a run forward, but explore fast because after a few minutes, time is working against you. Now it's an explore how long you like, take in the scenery all you like, finish each level (unless you choose to do the time challenge of each level which YOU choose) in whatever time you like, all the while being more open like the console games.

I'm gonna say it again- all IMO of course. Yes, you can explore the levels more, but the levels this time are more boring. The characters are more boring. The enemies are more boring. The story is more boring. It feels soulless... In most levels you need to hunt down some item, but because the story doesn't feel immersive whatsoever you don't know what you're hunting and just picking up whatever you can and accidentally find the thing you needed, and then everything seems pointless because everything is also pretty easy to find and the levels just aren't interesting to explore.

Basically, Flynn has a map that gets stolen by Captain Frightbeard, however, when he has a copy of the map made from pirate mustard, Hugo discovers the map leads to the Chest of Exile which would allow Frightbeard to get back a lot of power if he reached it, and you need to try to stop him. |

That figure should never logically be more expensive than the 3DS starter pack price.

I know that the average person is "stupid" but surely there aren't enough people stupid enough to pay that when they could simply walk into any store and buy a 3DS starter pack and throw the rest of the contents away?
