Hi folks,
of course I will collect all of the new characters for Giants but can I ask you if it is really worth the money buying the same characters from the 1st game for this game? Can someone tell me what the difference is?
Thanks

Well, the S2 characters have WOW POW powers, which are awesome upgrades that are exclusive to he S2 characters (I think).

So what you are saying is that they are worth buying then? It's my kids who play Skylanders so can you tell me that the upgrades that the characters earned in the first game cannot be eventually earned in the second game?

One last question, apart from the exclusives being released on day one, does anyone know if there will be single/mult-pack of characters released before xmas or will we have to suffer like last year?

You can earn all of the previous upgrades in Giants, too. The series 2 characters not only have a Wow Pow, they can easily switch upgrade paths on the go.
As for the second question, Waves 1 and 2 will be released before Christmas, if that is what you are asking.

Honestly, I'd say it's not worth it. There are benefits to them, and they get an extra power that the original versions don't get, but in most cases from what we've seen, the new power isn't worth the price.

I'd say if your kids want some series 2 characters, only allow them to get a few. It's not worth collecting all of them again, and Toys For Bob have come out and said they don't expect people to do that. Series 2 figures are there if you want to buy a somewhat improved version of your favourite characters. Of course collectors will probably end up buying them all, but for a regular consumer, they really aren't worth the money unless it's a character you were a big fan of in the first game. Heck, I was a collector during the first game and bought every character, and I'm not even willing to buy all of the series 2 figures. I'm probably only going to be buying about 4 of them in the end.

I also think it's kind of silly because if you're going to play the new game, you might as well play it with the new characters.

Series 2 is worth it if you didn't get the original characters. Is it worth it if you already got those? I don't know, but I'm getting them anyway.

My thoughts exactly. Though I didn't even collect half of the series 1 so I might get more series 2 just to get the character.

I'll be helpful and list all of the stuff they get so you can decide what you find worthwhile because everyone else has already said what I wanted to.
But it's definetly not worth buying all of them unless one, you have OCD, or two, you collect the figures.
Also note only Series Two figures unlock Heroics for Giants characters- you can do old Heroics with Series Two characters in the first game, but if you want to play old Heroics with new characters, I'm afraid you're lost unless you collect the Series Two.

Spyro: Increased damage and radius on Spyro's Ground Pound
Wrecking Ball: Forcefield is replaced by a disco ball that does increased damage and is slower for easy control
Double Trouble: Eldritch Beam reflects off enemies and objects
Bash: Summon a Stonefist Pillar while rolling to fly into the air and land pounding to the ground
Prism Break: Unknown (But likely summon a trail of crystals)
Terrafin: Increased damage and radius on Bellyflop
Slam Bam: Dash replaced by a sleigh (Specific effect unknown, but likely does damage to nearby enemies)
Zap: Can jump off a wave and ground pound
Gill Grunt: Unknown
Ignitor: Flame Soul and Mega Axe leave blue flame trails
Flameslinger: Dash has increased length and does extra damage when you run longer
Eruptor: Fire breath
Drill Sergeant: Auto Blaster does better damage when held longer
Drobot: Controllable gear
Trigger Happy: Machine Gun occasionally shoots golden hyper beams
Hex: Can summon a skull that attacks for you
Cynder: Can summon lightning pillar in flight
Chop Chop: Unknown
Whirlwind: Unknown
Sonic Boom: Can summon a big baby griffin rather than several small ones
Lightning Rod: Can summon a lightning storm from hands (NOT Grand Lightning)
Zook: Mortar can be aimed
Stump Smash: Unknown (But likely rapid fire on Acorns)
Stealth Elf: Unknown

Not as special as people make them out to be, IMO. But I think some of those are still pretty neat. In the end though unless you want to collect utterly everything I wouldn't say it's worth it unless you play a LOT or don't have the character. (And even Terrafin and Slam Bam aren't worth buying because you can get them with Adventure Packs with an extra level and items.)

Slam Bam is worth it because the Legendary one is a gorilla!
