Target lost the rights to the "Target Exclusive" mark after Dec. 31st of last year. Though it seems likely that they'll probably end up getting Whirly back for Giants.

^ this. the target exclusive is impossible to find outside of ebay. and they go for ridiculous amounts.

I will say that it is pricey, but it's definitely difficult to find anymore if you're collecting...

actually the white base depends from figure to figure.

mine's a first run whirlwind and her base is actually darker and it feels rougher and more grainy than the later incarnations of her.

but then again the grainy look and feel might be a batch thing because not all of the whirlwind figures at the target I bought it at had that look.

It has a different UPC as well, which I think is cool. It's how you can tell it was from the exclusive period.

The actual number by the barcode is different.

The Target exclusive UPC number is -

047875841871

The mass retail UPC number is -

047875842908

I actually want to take this time to mention that I consider the Wham Shell inside of the Skylanders Castle Display Case to be a variant of sorts. The thing has no barcode at all. It simply says "Not for resale."
