Just curious what you guys do with the variants you get? Especially the rarer ones. I just found a three pack with Camo, Ignitor, and GITD Warnado. I'm keeping mine sealed, but what do you guys do?

I like to open them. I tend to keep them in the box and after a few weeks of admiring them i can't resist. I have these awesome boxes for my collection but i need to take the figure out to fit it in! I opend my blue bash and got a FSS sent to me from a very kind DS user! Havent unboxed him yet but i feel it coming soon! Really want some GITD or Ice variants... i know im to late for golds and sivers but still would love them too. Hate how they're so hard to find. I look all over my area here in the UK.

nope, because I like collecting things while being still sealed in good condition, and I hope I won't be judged about it.

Nope. Might buy second sets of the conventionals to open if they drop drastically... Like... To $50 at the most.

Everything I buy is to open and play with.

Leaving them boxed, here. We've got the three convention exclusives, and a couple of Glows we lucked into. Conventions are staying boxed because they were bought to collect, Glows because Zap and Wrecking Ball aren't exactly tops of anyone's list in our house, so there's no point in opening up a fancy version of a box-warming character. Especially when V and I both prefer the plain paint jobs aesthetically.

I bought 2 BB and WERDS so I could keep one sealed and play with the other and I only got one flocked so he is sealed since I'm afraid the flocking will rub off if handled often. If I ever find a rare variant like an ice or GITD i will keep it sealed but maybe play it through the package.

Really no point to open any variant when you can use the regular version for gaming. Ithink the variants look way better in package.

I'm leaving the first ones I get in the box. (well..I've only gotten a handful of variants/special editions so...)

So far:

-First Legendary 3 pack was opened (before they became rare). Ended up getting a second pack when they came back in full for my collection.
-First L-Triggs was opened, only because the one I got from TRU came damaged. If it wasn't, I would have left it in the box. Thankfully my cousin came through and nabbed me another that was in a really nice box.
-I ended up getting 2 Blue Bashes on April 1st when they came out. The one I got looked really good, but my Dad ended up getting an even nicer one. I opened mine, kept one in the box.
-Red Drill sarge ended up being the same way, one to open, one mib. Even though the woman who took them back to the counter (she was helping someone else, the Walmart I went to had them in a locked case) she ended up not messing them up at all. (She carried them really awfully)
-Flocked Stumpy is in the box, and the second one I have for my friend is also staying in the box. If I happen to get another at some point from someone or whatever I might open that.

Sealed, naturally.

The only opened variants I have, are Sapphire Bash and Ruby Drill Sergeant.

Seeing all the comments about being sealed makes me feel like i should keep mine sealed then i see a pic of them opened and, for me, thats how i love to see them!

Opened my blue Bash and red Drill Sergeant, but I'm keeping my toy fair Cynder and flocked Stump Smash boxed.

The clear figures are so much better unboxed. The packaging blocks most of the light from showing through.

Cynder would probably look nicer unboxed as well, but I like the special toy fair emblem.

And Stump Smash so his flocking stays nice, also I would be tempted to pick at the flocking if he was free...

if you collect then just open it (unless your collecting boxed things) but if you intend on selling it then keep it boxed for increased value

None of mine are opened, I like tthe pretty packaging.

I open them all. But bonbonsalad kept WERDS sealed.

i keep single packs sealed, but if i find/get a three pack i will open it, i don't think the three packs with variants look to good. Plus i want a set to have open, and i could sell the extra two skylanders.

I open mine but I do have two doubles (Flocked Stump Smash and Blue Bash) which I opened one and left its other copy in the box.

If I had any I'd open them.

my main concern is depreciation of value. Plus there are a lot of really good looking fakes out there when it comes to the silver/gold/glow figures, i wouldn't want to go to resell the figure some future day and have no one interested because it is open and they can't tell if it is fake or not.

they are jin's customs (i now have 11 of his customs)

the case is something that i designed myself. i will design something else to put the giants in. i had 3 of these ones made for the original figures ...

How did you buy those jin costume figures? How much did they cost?

I keep my variants boxed. That includes my single pack of Dark Spyro, GITD Fright Rider & GITD S2 Sonic Boom.
I also have an opened Dark Spyro that I use in the game and I also open all my legendaries.
My policy is if it appears different in the game -open it. If not - keep it sealed!

However I feel that either way doesn't matter that much.

eBay. He puts them up every Sunday and they last for a week of bidding. The auctions start at $0.01, but usually end up going for a LOT more.

If I had a chase variant no I wouldn't open it. Normal variants like Granite Crusher I'll open.

I keep ALL my Skylanders in box, except the LC and Giants.

I went back and forth about opening my Sparkle Hot Head. Eventually I decided to open him ( and he had been put under my tree for Xmas already lol) - but his box actually came to us damaged, and that would have affected his resale value anyway I think. The "inner box" part was super bent up on the sides & honestly it just looked awful. But additionally, Skylanders is something my fiancé and I play almost exclusively co-op, and he was too big in the box to have another character on the portal. I don't intend to ever sell him, and I just love him. Never regretted my decision!

I do have a 3DS starter pack with GITD Cynder & Punch PF, and that's still not open! I don't have a 3DS and I wanted the variants. I know it's not a super rare pack but I couldn't resist, waiting until Xmas morning to decide about that one.

My list:
GITD Cynder is opened of course.
GITD Warnado triple pack is sealed.
GITD Sonic Boom is sealed

Granite Crusher is sealed.
Amazon Flameslinger is sealed.
WERDS is opened.

If I ever receive a variant with a damaged box, I'll open it. Otherwise, just depends on the figure. I might order another Amazon Flameslinger to open though.
