Would You Buy a Series 2 Figure if the Wow Pow was... [CLOSED]

I know there's a lot of bitterness over the whole series 2 figure thing, and I understand why. Honestly, I'm only going to re-buy a couple of old favourites because I'd like the most up to date version of them. However when thinking of what Chop-Chop's Wow Pow might be, I came to the disturbing thought that down the Vampiric Warrior path, it might just increase the amount of damage the sword does since that's the most common complaint about Chop-Chop.

I don't know, if I'm going to shell out the extra money for a new version of a character I already have with the promise of a new upgrade, and all it does is increase the amount of damage the old version did without really changing how the character plays, I'd feel pretty ripped off. It would honestly probably make me not want to buy it since as I've stated before, I like Chop-Chop's low damage output, and I'd rather have another combo to increase his amount of techniques than simply make him do more damage.

So my question to you is if a character's Wow Pow only increases damage output and doesn't change how the character plays, would you be okay with that, or would you feel ripped off that it doesn't add anything new to the character?

I would feel ripped off.

Imagine the moment. You're about to upgrade to the Wow Pow power. You test it......... You then lose your mind and throw the portal at the TV.

The wow-pow is a new ability ability on top of the primary, secondary and special abilities - not just an upgrade of an existing attack.

This is from an interview on Digital Spy.

For someone who has bought a series one Skylander, what motivations are there to buy the same one but the series two version instead?

"First of all, all of the series two Skylanders have new poses, so for people who are more toy-orientated they are going to want to have that new, fun take on that character.

"The other big thing about that character is in-game we have this new 'wow' power. If you recall from the first Skylanders, as you're powering up characters you usually get these last super-awesome powers at the end of the upgrade cycle. And what we've done for Giants - for those series two characters - is add on another one of those powers to have.

Sounds to me like whatever upgrade they add at the end of the cycle could very well just be increased damage.

Wow. Its like a duplicate Soul Gem move - it only increases damage.

Toys For Bob is really good at this stuff.

My main reason for buying the series 2 toys is the same as the first game - because I like the toys. The game component comes second, so I mostly don't care.

But, I do feel like the wow pow abilities should be more fun(in many games this means weak) than powerful, so you won't feel like you NEED a series 2 to stay competitive. But then they wouldn't sell as well?

For characters who are a little lacking, they could easily make those adjustments to the base game instead of a separate upgrade.

I'm buying Chop Chop anyway but that would just be ludicrous.

There is nothing that suggests that the wow-pow is a damage upgrade in that article. You've taken a section that disregards your point just as much as it backs it up. However, evidence from the facebook preview suggests that the wow-pow is a new ability entirely, which is more evidence against your point.

Why would it be surprising if the Pow Wows were just damage upgrades? Look at Trigger Happy's Series Two figure, after all- the machine gun is different which suggests it's just stronger and that simple upgrades like that aren't impossible.

I think as of right now, there's 5 S2 I know I'll get. Spyro, Triggs and Gill. That's it.

Cynder comes with the starter pack, and Chop Chop comes with the Battle Pack. If there's more in the other battle packs (which should be a given; they'll want to put the old characters in to sell those)

I don't really like it, but I do see how they could be great to use. I have a feeling the S2 figures will shake up PvP tiers and stuff. Personally, I don't really intend on getting any outside of the 5 I mentioned, although once I've gotten all the Giants, new Skylanders and LightCores, I'll see. I'm gonna be hard pressed to decide what to do with my money considering there's like.. a million things I want to get coming out soon.

What I meant is that judging by the way this is worded, the Wow-pow is simply an extra upgrade added to the upgrade cycle, meaning that when you pick an upgrade path, there will be four upgrades to purchase, and not three. When we take the marketing mumbo-jumbo of "wow-pow" out of it and just think of it as an extra upgrade, it has the potential to do the same stuff any other upgrade could do, including a whole new attack, an additional technique to an existing attack (Chop-Chop's sword combos for example) or just increased damage. Not saying ALL of the "wow-pows" are increased damage, but there's a possibility that SOME of them might be.

Maybe you could link the facebook preview so I know what you're talking about?

Keep watching until 4:45 and you'll see it's also not just an ability that is used during flight in case you were going to think that (I did at first).

That's good then. Hopefully they're all like that, and they aren't just showing one out of a handful that actually has a whole new attack. I'm still always skeptical when it comes to pre-release trailers, demos, and weaselly marketing speak, so hopefully they're all going to have new attacks like this. : )

Just realized Series Two Chop Chop has the Stun upgrade Shield on him.

Good thing he will be available on day one. smilie

Adding that to the insane sword combos just makes him even more epic.

Well, I'm unimpressed at Cynder. A lightning bolt? Really? That's it? L Rod can do that, and better. It's not worth another 10 bucks, I can say that much. But that's just me.

The example in the OP is kinda a bad one since chop-chop comes in the battle pack with shroomboom, so most of us will get him anyway.

In general I agree. I hope the wow pow isn't just some minor buff. Though, going back to chop-chop, if it is a damage buff, the shield path will become much more viable as it has the tools, just not the pop to put most skylanders down with reliable consistency.

I'm only getting the ones in triple and battle packs as well as the ones I don't have the S1 figures of.
