Ok, everyone's been talking about the characters in Giants, but I haven't really heard anything about the Portals of Power. The main thing I'm curious about is if they will be wired or wireless. I have an Xbox portal, which is wired, but if I remember correctly, both the ps3 and wii games came with wireless portals. I'd really like a wireless Xbox portal for giants, has anyone heard anything about this?

I think the Xbox portal is still wired.

Well no because the portals are basically the same maybe an orange base but since you can use the old ones they are probably the exact same or slightly larger as for the xbox I like my wired since it don't need batteries and I just plug it in seems decent but they may now have a wireless xbox portal

From the looks of it, when you place a character on the portal it'll stay whatever elemental color that Skylander is, rather than cycle through the colors like the old ones did.

On the back of the TRU reserve card for the Wii, they have a pic of the Portal, but it's just a stock art image although I'd have to guess that it'll still be wireless. Honestly wired is better because then the batteries don't die like crazy on these things.

That's what Activision should invest in. Skylanders batteries. jesus the money would just fly in.

In some cases yes. But my portal's batteries last about a week or two.

Why doesn't everyone just use rechargeable batteries?They can be found in most supermarkets

^ I don't know. But my portal lasts about a 3 weeks and I play ALOT, atleast 3 hours a day.

The portal for the 360 version is wired because of Microsoft's rules against third-party wireless accessories. They allow some, but not all, and I'm guessing the portal wasn't allowed.

why the heck can't third party objects be wireless? do they fear someone is going to make a gun out of some Xbox accessory and go rob a bank making Microsoft responsible?

first of all i have a wii and the bateries last me four weeks of CONTINOUS playing

meh, i preferred "chili dog"
and yeah, the batteries last me months.

1/. When I had the Wii version, the batteries lasted a long, long time. If your batteries don't last long, there may be a fault with your portal.

2/. Xbox have a proprietary wireless protocol that the developer has to license. For some strange reason this did not happen for the portal but Activision happily did it for Guitar/Band/DJ Hero accessories. However, it may be due to the portal not having the standard controller functions, such as the "x" home button, A, B buttons, etc?

I HATE THE XBOX CABLE THAT CONNECTS TO THE CONSOLE!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not fond of it either but I don't feel the urge to shout about it.

My Wii Portal lasts fine. I don't play Skylanders often, but when I do, my Portal of Power always has good batteries.

Anyway, memes aside, the new Portal looks quite nice and it's a big contribution for me choosing the Starter Packs again instead of the Booster Packs. I hated how the original flicked the colors so much, but I like how this one will stay put and how the bottom of it lights with the Element. Wonder if any such improvements will come with the 3DS Portal?

The 3DS Portal lasts for a very good life. It just doesn't look very special, it only lights up to electric blue.

But when I do the portal needs batteries.

If the PS3 is getting a new wired portal then I am getting the Giants starter pack. I hate having to stop gameplay find a screwdriver, look all over the house for a screwdriver, open up the portal... stick new batteris in and stick the now depleted rechargables in to charge....every other week.

it's annoying so this is very good news on my end. can't wait for conframation on which platforms are getting wired portals.

Or, you could just buy a rechargeable battery pack for the Portal from Amazon - there are quite a few for sale now. They've got a USB plug that you can use instead of the wireless receiver and all

Speaking of which, which of the 2 rechargeable battery packs do you guys prefer (KMD or Butterfox). I have a PS3 portal,which also drains batteries and was just wondering. Debating on if it's just something wrong with my portal as well,hearing how some of yours have much longer life spans. I got the Best Buy Starter Pack that came with the Volcanic Vault, not sure if the earlier made portals had shorter life spans.

I bought Energizer but I also have seen a Duracell one

does anyone happen to know if the new portal might work with the old game? faun bought skylanders for the ps3 but is now losing the ps3, so is curious if it would be possible to just get a copy of the original skylanders disk for a different system and use the giants portal to play.

If you plan to buy the two games on the same system - sure. I only say that so you avoid the hassle with the portal for the 360 version.

^I believe it works, just without the glows-the-same-colour-as-the-skylanders-element thing on Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure.

that's good to hear. and there is no fear of faun ever getting this or any game for the xbox; the only good xbox games (at least for fauns) are on steam. :D

Are either of those accessories available in stores? Or do I have to do stupid online shopping? (Hates shopping online)

The Butterfox one has better reviews on Amazon.co.uk but apart from that, they're both pretty much the same. Both look the same, both set up the same, both made by a third party manufacturer - the only difference is the price but that might reflect on the quality.

I've seen the Universal Battery Pack at my local Gamestop, think they had the other one 2 was just trying to decide.
