I don't know much about the plot of Giants, but I do know that Kaos is returning. This is kind of disappointing for me because I had already had in mind what I wanted Giants to be about, but it looks like they aren't going there.
Throughout the first game there was the ongoing joke about sheep being evil, but it was only really Hugo that thought that. I thought it'd be great if they made Giants a bit more silly than the original game and have it turn out that the sheep really are evil, or are at least getting revenge on the Skylanders for tormenting them all the time. Let's face it, we all beat up the sheep, and there were a lot of different ways that you COULD torment the sheep such as pouring oil on them, lighting them on fire, inflating them so they couldn't move, getting their wool all soggy so they looked ugly, and of course simply knocking them off cliffs. If the game sort of went in a Rayman Origins direction of silliness with evil sheep as the bad guys, it could have been an interesting new take on the series rather than just bring Kaos back. It'd be like that one episode of the Kirby show where there was the flock of sheep being lead by an evil sheep that made them all act like ferocious wolves instead of sheep.
Hopefully Activision and Toys For Bob aren't just banking on the new figures to keep this series alive, because when you take the figure aspect out of it, Skylanders is a pretty bland and boring game. They really do need to get creative with level design and story if they want to keep this series going, and not just hope that new toys will be what sells the game.

The Arkeyans ruled over Skylands with an iron fist and the Giants were the original Skylanders who fought against the Arkeyans and their King, leading to the civilization's mysterious disappearance and the Giants being banished to Earth in the first place.
The plot of Skylanders: Giants is that Kaos returned to Skylands through a toy store Portal of Power, and activated an Arkeyan machine upon his return to Skylanders. The Arkeyan machine tells Kaos that if he can acquire something known as the "Iron Fist of Arkus", Kaos can not only reactivate the entire army of Arkeyan robots, but also command them. With that kind of power, Kaos would be unstoppable and it's up to the new Portal Master, the Skylanders, and the Giants to stop Kaos and the Arkeyans.

I'll admit it's a good set up, but so far it still just sounds like "stop the big bad guys". It's a well thought out plot, and continues the story, which is what a sequel should do, but to me it still doesn't sound interesting. I'll give them credit that it's a good idea, but it still doesn't sound very fun.

"stop the big bad guys" "stop the big bad sheep" i kinda like the first one better. fighting hoards of sheep would be pretty boring and bland after a while. especially if every enemy would be based off the same character model: here, we have a sheep, a black sheep, a grey sheep, a big sheep, a big grey sheep, a big black sheep. a sheep driving a tank, a grey sheep driving a tank, a golden sheep!

I wouldn't mind a spin off on ios or something. It would probably end up being about Hugo dreaming about destroying sheep. So maybe... you get to play as Hugo?!?

The Arkeyans never really disappeared, they are actually the sheep and plotting their resurrection.

That actually sounds pretty cool.
For everyone saying this plot sounds silly, remember the first boss in the original Spyro game was actually a sheep dressed up as a scarecrow. They could make all the enemies like that. Plus there's no reason trolls and drows wouldn't return- they're the staple enemies a-la Goomba and Koopa and don't seem to be controlled by anyone in particular. Plus Arkeyans are likely too since they even randomly appeared in Lair of Kaos and other unfitting places. |
