One of the Story Scrolls (the one found in Falling Forest, to be exact) in the first game says:

These giants possessed powers of Light and Darkness in their flesh. No one has seen an Elder Elemental in centuries, but there are rumors that they will return someday.

Could the Giants be the Elder Elementals?

Giants are one for each element, not light and dark.

Look it says Giants In THE SECOND SENTENCE

I was thinking more on the lines that all the elements derive from light and darkness.

It may have just been an idea that eventually formed into Giants. Honestly, I remember someone saying something that a lot of Giants is old ideas that were scrapped in the first game, so they could have reworked things.

Although, certainly the "Elder Elementals" do fit the description of the Giants (ie, being the "elder" of a particular "element") and that clever thing Azure brought up with the LightCore features in them.

Maybe we'll fight 'Kaos Controlled' versions of the Elementals at the end of particular levels.

it said they possessed dark and light within their flesh, doesnt mean they HAVE to have dark and light based attacks and appearance. the giants were also the original skylanders, and it mentioned that the elders were ancient. so yeah, put 2 and 2 together.

I think this might be a major plot point...

I think the giants are the elders, Would you like it if the game was called Skylanders: Elder Elementals? Doesn't have a ring to it.

Actually, it kind of does.

I like the idea of a game called Skylanders: The Elder Elementals. I heard in a pod cast that said that someday they may add more elements, and that they where going to add elements to Skylanders: Giants but they decided that the giants where like their own element.

im only resurecting this topic as i think its relevant to some of the "variant" topics poping up at the moment. I have noticed the scroll that states above in the OP. With all the photos of giants appearing with slightly different skins (Ninjini with purple clothes and red clothes) it leads me to assume that each giant skylander (at least) may have a quest in which they have two alternate endings, one is a dark flesh ending, one a light flesh ending. As after all, as the scroll states they have dark and light withing their flesh, so it would only be a cosmetic change if anything.

that's a great idea! it could be like upgrade paths but for giants. you're either smart or you've had an account here before, you give a new name to reds.

I do think part of it is hopefulness though. Because I would absolutely love for my theory to be true.

Now that Granite Crusher is confirmed as a sepearate figure, I sadly doubt any theory other than that these are just a ton of reskins.

So was I. They have powers of light and dark, but it's not the be all and end all of thier powers. Maybe some of the bosses will be dark version of the giants, like in S:SA. Hopefully though well see some all new characters in boss fight and not just recolors of the ones we have.

I hope the bosses aren't just recolors/etc as well.
From what we've seen Brock is literally just a Goliath Drow with a hat and extra HP... Bad.
Drill-X sounds and looks like a fun boss(from the image of him on his Acheivement box).
And if we do fight Arkus it might be interesting.
The only one I'm disliking so far is Brock because that is SERIOUSLY stupid just making a bulky version of a regular enemy into a boss, with no move changes whatsoever.
I have good hopes for Drill-X.
I'm indifferent to (presumed) Arkus.
