there was this game called u.b funkeys which was like skylanders ( you put a character on a portal) and there were also different elemental worlds, fire and undead, water and life, etc...
but after a few sequels ( the first, then season, then speed racer characters, then dreams and nightmares, then martial arts, then industery) there was a robot called sprockethttp://www.google.co.uk/imgres...Xyp4DgBw&zoom=1after a while u.b funkeys became discontinued, i just hope skylanders wont make the same mistake

It is pretty much inevitable that Skylanders will become unpopular within the next few years, but I think it will take a while for it to become discontinued. I expect it within the next ten years.

I actually had that game for a while when I was a kid! Now, I have no idea where where they are, and the original saved files were deleted.
And they released many exclusive packs, like a pack that lets you play as the main villan..

I remember those. I would probably be bored by them now, but when I was younger, I was obsessed with them. Ah, good times. Did anybody else here have an account on the U.B. Funkeys forum?

We really don't know how long this will last. Look at Mario, The simpsons, Pokemon, and Magic the Gathering. All have lasted well past the standard shelf lifes of their genre.

Glad heroic challenges are gone. Imagine doing 165 per skylander. That's 27225 challenges. No thank you. |

Activision could try to work more on the Skylanders gamesinstead of making so many skylanders it's hard to get them all. It's in about everything gaming these days, instead of buying more games for your console, you have to buy a new console every 6 months for new games.

off topic: i loved UB funkeys as a youngling, i saw them the first month after i moved to vancouver from seattle. they were pretty popular, the cases were about 20 bucks each, the year was about 2005, and there were 2 cases at toys r u, the two cases were there every single time i went to TRU in the 6 years. just a month ago, i checked the board game/miscellaneous section at TRU to see if they had any funkeys left. i was surprised to see the two cases (black and white) still there after the many years, their prices dropped to a buck fifty each. i quickly dropped everything and grabbed the two, sprinting to the checkout. i wanted to cry for some reason, i guess it was because of the over flow of nostalgia, and the sense of childhood again. the two cases now display all my funkeys.
ON topic: Sprockets are real life things and i gotta say the skylander bears no resemblance to the funkey. off topic again: too bad the UB funkeys game doesn't work anymore... the driver is out dated as it runs a 32 bit format.

i dont think that will happen in a few years... when they go online with the skylanders3 (next year) they can keep it popular with dlc and new figurines for even more years... then we have the new consoles and skylanders4 that will be something more amazing. skylanders will be milked like the nintendo marios for years/generations to come... |

Ho do. Skylanders is definetly not the next Mario. Online will make it a lot better, but comparing it to the popularity anything Nintendo has made is just silly. They made a sports game sell more than ten million copies. A sports game.
Skylanders' popularity is more like CoD: it's very well-selling, but the general consensus is that it's just good, not great. Quote: Earth-Dragon
But in Skylanders, they just keep adding. Look at Mario and Zelda and Kirby: they're all popular because they keep changing while staying true to themselves. Even Pokemon does it with its side games(Mystery Dungeon, Ranger, Snap)... But if Giants is an indicator all they'll do is continue to add new types of Skylanders rather than changing the game up in any meaningful way. Quote: Henso559
YES, thank you! If they had added better content into the game in the first place, they would not need to add so many new characters. They amount of characters they have is fine, the content they have is not, and with arkward releases, it makes you think they there are too many figures to buy yet not enough to enjoy. P.S. I'm sorry if this is a duplicate post because my Internet is acting up. |

change what in mario?? it was a 2d jump and run on the 8bit nintendo , then it was a 2d jump and run on the super nintendo.... then it turned 3d with the n64 but still a jump and run games etc etc... and to this date with the latest mario for the 3ds. it still is a jump and run game, and even a remake of the super nintendo games with a few upgrades... mario aint changing anything, its still the same game. when it comes to skylanders the makers are much more free to do what they want. but at the beginning sure they are gonna focus on the platform version of the game for a few years before they change it totally... and skylanders have characters as figurines you can use ingame. you as a fan of the game get more psychically attached to it with something you can touch and hold in your hands, than just some pixel on the screen. mark my words when i say skylanders are her to stay, and the kids that are here today and grew up on skylanders. will buy it for their kids when they get adults.... mario, zelda and all that nintendo stuff will be gone in a few years, its done to death for generations after generations. everyone wants something new and fresh and that is what skylanders is.

New powerups. That play new and feel new. New levels that play new and feel new. New characters. Side series: RPGs, sports games, and more. New ways to play every game: does riding around a water jetpack and fighting ghosts with vacuums sound the same to you?
Over the past few games in the series, I remember these new major power ups as well. -Mega Mushroom (New Super Mario Bros.) Allows you to become huge and cover the screen. -Mini Mushroom (New Super Mario Bros.) Allows you to become tiny and fit in miniature holes and pipes. -Blue Shell (New Super Mario Bros.) Allows you to act like a Koopa! -Bee Mario (Super Mario Galaxy) A suit allowing you to fly. -Rock Mario (Super Mario Galaxy 2) A suit that allows you to roll around in a boulder. -Cloud Mario (Super Mario Galaxy 2) A suit that allows you to create clouds to stand on. Heck, even the spin-offs frequently changed. Compare the Kart games: They went from using two characters at once to using bikes alongside karts to using gliders and going underwater in three games in a row. And Nintendo know how to apply them all in to make the puzzles themselves change: at the core, that's what really matters. Changing how you need to apply the items, not just the items. Gliding in Mario Kart 7 wouldn't matter, but depending on how you use it, it could mean the difference between a win and a loss. They don't just add things for the sake of adding things, they change things, because if you just add, and add, and add, it eventually becomes a giant museum. No two Zelda games are set in the same Hyrule. No two Pokemon games require the same strategies. And no two Mario games use powerups the same. But Skylanders is just so shamefully simple, that all the characters feel like like they play the same. And if they just keep adding new ones, that won't change. They need to change and fix the game itself. As it is, it's a dungeon crawler with a gimmick that feels new, but gameplay that already feels worn out. Besides... Activision ruled Guitair Hero which was still doing very well and they dropped that last year. |

when a new franchises start , its shamefully simple even mario on the 8bit nintendo was that. things will evolve in skylanders to, its just the natural thing to do... but mario is now become the old fat uncle with a mustache that just repeats unfunny jokes... mario is not relevant to kids of today. when it comes to skylanders, every kid can relate do it and even pick their own favorite. that we see good examples of in this skylanders forum here. skylanders will be here for many years to come...

Well, two things about what you said. One, I'm one of the "kids of today", and I like Mario games. And second, thee's one thing that could keep skylanders from becoming the next Mario with kids: money. Most kids who would want to play Skylanders probably could only do one of these things to afford it. 1: Get Skylanders for Birthdays or Christmas. 2: Sell things on eBay. 3: Buy them used. 3: Get parents to buy them. 4: Do an excessive amount of chores or odd jobs. 5: Get a job (only works with older kids). 6: Steal them.

Seeing how popular SKylanders I do believe they opened a more variety at gameing I miss the old funkeys but they didn't do anything like the skylanders maybe if the skylanders were more like toys instead of statues then more people would like it maybe put the rfid chip in the head of the skylander and have them flex so when you set them on the portal you can make them stand or sit down.

I havent updated since I don't particularly care but I have gotten all the skylanders except varients only ones are glow Warnado and WERDS |

Skylanders will be pokemon2 if they do it right... a cartoon is pretty much necessary for longlife.

you take those words back. UB funkeys were the best toys of their time, of course they look horrible now. and looks tell nothing, i bet if your kids used their fancy ipads and "good looking" new computers to read about them, they'd like it. im not kidding about the "best toys of their time" thing, it was pretty advanced stuff. B.O.T.: i havent been on the forums in a while, did they release sprocket yet?
