Skylanders Cakes [CLOSED]

My son had his 6th birthday this week and as he's a huge Skylanders fan, I just had to have a go at making a Portal Of Power cake. This was the end result:

That is absolutely amazing! I wish I had that much talent, but I've always found icing cakes to be such a pain.

Thanks for the kind comments folks. I wish I was talented enough to make the Dark Spyro in icing form. This was the first cake I've made which played with icing in any way, but the portal is a pretty good starting point as it's a simplish design. The hardest bit was the elemental symbols, which I marked outlines for and painted around. The cake was a plain victoria sponge recipe with strawberry jam in the middle (no cream). I used pre-made ivory icing for everything else, shaping it and painting it as necessary (watered down black food colouring worked for the grey).

Great job on that cake. Putting the actual figure on top is a nice touch.

I'll bet it looked cool with the candles lit up if you had it in a dark room.
