And honestly, dude, if you get a Dark Spyro Single Pack, I'd suggest putting it with your other rares which aren't exactly variants, like Blue Bash and Toy Fair Cynder, so you could stack it like so:

Dark Spyro single isn't going to be rare. It just hasn't came out in North America yet.

Think about this for a second. Activision has stated that NO Skylander will ever be discontinued. I can see why, honestly. With that, if they didn't make Dark Spyro available as a single, no one would be able to get it, because with Giants coming out, they have to get rid of the first game and make room for Giants starters.

I can bet you that they also make original Spyro, Gill, and Trigg available in singles/triples as well. They will also end up making Sunburn, Slam Bam, Ghost Roaster, and Terrafin available outside of adventure packs as well, because adventure packs from the first game, don't work on Giants.

You are just now figuring that out? How do you think he gets five of each figure before most get even one? He's got people helping him from the inside of these retail shops. Unfortunately, it's not uncommon. I know a guy who collects hot wheels, and he does the same thing. Annoying.

I'm sorry but this is the first time I have posted on this thread, but the last few comments have made me think, having insiders so they can get you the variants and have 5 of each character i find this just as bad as the scalpers out there you are not allowing a child who does not care anything about collecting them just wants to play be dissapointed because there are no rare or even none of the regular characters that you purchase from. I have no insiders and like most people on here possibly have a phone bill that is way over budget because we have to ring stores. ok rant over

I have also figured out how I am going to arrange the wall. It will go like this -

Okay, then set the record straight - confirm or deny that said item/s were available on the floor before your "insiders" got them for you.

Now is your opportunity to clear the record - as I say to my older son, if he remains quiet then people will naturally presume he is guilty so he should always speak up when innocent and own up if "guilty".

I don't mean to sound like I'm being arbitrarily contrary here, but be serious, people. If you DON'T have an insider contact or insane fortune, good luck finding a variant in the store at all. You can blame GM for a lot of things, but 100% of the blame for the variant problem has to be given to Activision. With such a high-demand, low-quantity product, people are left with no realistic chance at finding them without pulling a few strings. It's not ideal, and I don't like it any more than the next person, but it is what it is.

I have personally found 6 variants in shops with no illicit, dodgy, shady or back-door dealings or negotiations.

I know other people who have found more than one.

i found three GID wrecking balls on a shelf in one of my local stores, I could have been greedy and brought all of them but no I brought one, so don't tell me it is insane fortune, it is scalpers and greedy people with "insiders" that do not give normal everyday collectors a chance. my 7 year old daughters favourite character is cynder I would love to get her a crystal one be no they are either sold on evil bay for x amount of dollars or greedy adult collectors keep them boxed on a wall or shelve never to be played with. GM how much are you buying your crystals for of this friend of yours?

Yes, but stories like yours are the exception that proves the rule. I guarantee I've been to as many stores as you looking for these things, and not so much as a whiff of a variant. With how few they ship in comparison to the total number of boxes, this is the norm. You absolutely lucked out, and while I'm sure your account is truthful, it doesn't make variants any more attainable for people looking on the shelves to find them.

It's all well and good to hypothesize here, but if someone called you on the phone and said "Hey, I have a crystal Stealth Elf, come on down," would you honestly tell them "Nah, put it on the shelves, everyone deserves a fair shot"? If you would, you are a more selfless man than most.

Edit: drummerw, of course it's insane fortune. The actual number of variants versus the number of total Skylanders shipped mathematically proves it's insane fortune. I'm glad you've been insanely fortunate, but to call your experience typical is a long-shot at best.

Not once did I say my account was typical, variants are rare, and yes if someone did ring me and say hey I have found a variant I would tell them to put it on the shelves and if it gets sold before I get there so be it, the only one I have got held at a store is your everyday run of the mill wham-shell, and yes I can understand this would be hypochritical of me to say but wham-shell should have been produced just as much as the other regular skylanders.

Now it is rare to find 1 variant, let alone 12 that were sold in stores, if he had one variant that was held at a store couldn't care less but to have found the gold silver GID and crystal is my point, give everybody a chance to own at least one variant.

Personally, I agree. I'd love the chance to add at least one variant to our collection. But the reality of it is, if someone at GameStop called me and said that he had a crystal Wham Shell on hold, the very LAST thing I would tell him is to put it on the shelves to give everyone a fair chance. That is hopelessly naive thinking that has no place in the real world. I hate to word it that harshly, but come on, who would do that? It's stupid, plain and simple.

I have showed my son pictures of the variants, and of course he wanted them. Then I showed him the eBay prices that they were selling for. He knows he won't be getting them, and he understands why.

At this point, he doesn't even think he's getting the legendaries, or at least he hasn't mentioned them in quite a while. Im looking forward to his birthday next month, because I have the legendaries, Camo and Warnado ready for him, but I sure would like to find Wham Shell by then.

I would buy a variant at retail. Obviously they're worth $8 if a regular Skylander is. But for $200, we could literally own another system to play the game on. Agreed completely, Himewad.

See, the thing is, you live in the middle of the ocean, on an island. Your country doesn't seem to be full of greedy people who love money. See, I live in a massive country, with 50 states. Particularly in a state like mine, you got a bunch of geeks running around like chickens with their heads cut off, looking for ANYTHING they can find to scalp. Their excuse is the typical republican excuse, "Hey. It's a free market." My state is more red than the Russian flag (ie the color of republicans). Old fools will take every Transformer, Ben 10, Power Ranger, Nerf, Hot Wheels, LEGO, and even girl toys, just to make a buck. Now, they have added Skylanders to the list of moneymakers.

So, **** yeah. You bet I'm gonna have my friend hook me up, before some greedy twenty-something - with no life - gets to work and takes it himself, only to do what the other people are doing on Ebay, which is gouging people's eyes out for them, as if they can die with their money.

I LOVE gamemasters collection and would love to have it, and believe me, if I had insiders I would have them pick out variants. However, I can't see paying more than like $90 for a variant, and even that's pushing it.

1/. We also get significantly less stock than USA - we don't have stores with literally walls of product like there. Scalpers live and prosper here in Oz too - ebay.com.au proves that.

2/. No, wrong - please try to prove via reference as complete BS. The only variant I ever got neither from EBay or found personally is Toy Fair Hex which is a different scenario as a German person (introduced to me via this forum) had one. It was never going to be on a display peg ever...

3/. You don't get it and I now doubt you ever will. It proves that no matter how many times you publish photos of your wall, collection, man cave, or whatever you will never have a variant that I won't get. You flip-flopped like a fish (and said that you didn't want to play anymore) on variants when you couldn't readily find some but I simply kept looking. I am a quiet achiever and don't need the validation of others. Indeed, I know a few people who have all of the variants and they don't need to obtain validation from others, either.

3a/. For the record, you will always have more boxes than me; I have or will have one of every variant. It is quality, not quantity. That doesn't make your collection better, merely larger. I could go out tomorrow and get 10, 20, 30 of each but simply don't see the point. Hey, to be truly complete you would have to get the same number of each box - 3-5 of each variant, 3-5 of each variant available in a 3 pack, etc.

3b/. So, the point is that I don't need that as I have a satisfactory life. Come back to me when you have spent 700Euro (and the exchange rate was awful back then so approx. $1000) on a single bottle of beer (then again, it was a special beer and the money went to charity). I started the whole sig "thing" to ridicule the bragging.

I just had a thought why does game master even have a thread of his own about his collection when other people are told, there is a thread for that??

Many moons ago, he "spammed" the other thread with lots of photos so someone/some people suggested that he start his own. Times were simpler then, hence it was not an issue.

Drummer. People in Vhrainas topic mentioned that I should start my own, because it would constantly be updated.

Case in point, I will be updating when I get the other 2 clears in, and again when I get Flocked Stump, and again when I get the sidekicks. That SHOULD be it, until Giants releases, unless they do more variants.

Did you try putting the sealed skylanders on the packages and level up sealed characters. It gives you more playtime

That's what I originally did. I kept them sealed at first, as a friend suggested. However, I decided to open them and display them. Then, I came up with the idea to buy another set to keep sealed. Then, after getting curious about paths I didn't take, I started going out to Sams Club and buying triple packs to have a second set. Then, on later waves, I started buying 5 of each single when I decided to give each of my kids their own collection, so we could all fight in Battle Mode.

This game made me its *****.

Sorry, i wrote it down wrong, you can put the sealed figures on the portal and you can play as them and level them up. It's fun when you are bored and leveled all your opened skylanders and you can still keep your sealed figures, sealed

Oh, you meant for my sealed set?

I decided something else. My daughter and son barely play with their Skylanders. So, I told my son I will take his figures, reset them, and go through the PS3 version of the game, so to make the game feel new again. This is, of course, after Skylanders leaves my mind for a bit. I am doing that, by finally going back to playing Xenoblade on Wii (best RPG ever), as well as Dragon's Dogma (360), which I am buying tomorrow.

Then, if my oldest daughter stop using hers totally, I will reset those and go through the PC version with them, when the game has worn off again, making it feel new again.

At that point, I may sell one of those collections and give one set to my youngest daughter, who is 2 and already playing games to a point. I know she will dig Skylanders when she gets around the age of 5.

The reason I would never use my sealed ones, is I want them to be fresh and new. I never want the RFID chips to be used on them. Each of those sealed Skylanders, came straight from the case. So, there newness will always be there.

On the topic of newness, I thought I'd offer some advice to those who have a sealed set. ALWAYS CLEAN THEM about once a week. Keep the dust off of them, or the plastic will discolor. Get a feather-duster.

Oh, but still try out the variants and nickname them things like
Gold Drill seargent
Metallic Cynder
Etc. And if the name is too long say things like
S Eruptor and stuff.

By the way, has the flocked stumpy shipped to you?

I assume it will soon. If they say 6-8 weeks, and people started winning mid to late April via the 800 number, it should be another couple of weeks or so.
