Is this app officially from Activision/Toys for Bob? You never can know these days with iOS. Seems like they don't bother spending another extra 15 seconds to check copyrights to approve apps.

I bought it since it is a universal app and looks neat. I hate when companies split the game up into two apps, one for iphone and one for ipad.

I'm not looking forward to typing in the web codes, though.

Oh boy, it's one of those "pay real money to unlock stuff" games. Fortunately, this is only for characters (so far), and you can use real web codes to unlock instead of "gems" (which cost real money).

It is fun, though. It strongly reminds me of Fruit Ninja. Every day a different element gives bonus coins. Today is undead day, apparently.

Sounds very interesting.

Don't have an iPad though, but my brother does and he loves Skylanders so I'll tell him about it.

@dark52: I'm hoping for an Android release as well, but with a quick browse of Google Play, it doesn't seem Activision has done much on Android just yet. Fingers crossed!

Why couldn't they let us use the camera to scan in the codes?

It's great to see a Skylanders game but I hope this is not all we get, I want a regular adventure game on iPad.

Camera scanning would have been great.

I believe that's why each webcode card has a barcode. Get a barcode scanner then try it.

using the web card to port in characters? that's a little lazy

if this had been released about a year or two from now, it could have used the NFC (near field communication) radio on most android phones to scan in characters.

you'd basically flip the phone over and place the figure on the back, which is where the coils for the NFC radio are usually situated. i'm not sure if it could scan through the screen, although that would be cool since the screen could light up with the elemental color for a second or two, glowing underneath the figure, just to crank up the wow factor.

NFC is designed to act as a digital wallet for phones, so reading in the measly 1 kilobytes worth of hex codes off a skylanders RFID tag is 2EZ

Hmm.. I have to say, I'd definitely like to try it out. Maybe we'll get lucky and get a free Amazon Marketplace release which would be fantastic since I hate spending money on apps. Even 99 cents.

I just played the game for about an hour straight. It's fun. More fun than Fruit Ninja, despite feeling very similar. You "slice" through enemies, avoiding the "bombs". You get more coins for higher combos. You use the coins to upgrade your items.

Anyone who owns the real figures can just ignore the in-game "gems" (which are bought with real money). The gems only seem to be used to unlock figures you don't own. You also earn gems just from completing the different goals (e.g. "shoot 10 crates") and ranking up.

The way the items are used is fun. For example, Time Twister makes time slow down when you are targeting and Healing Elixir allows you to continue if you die. Upgrading the items with coins makes them last longer, give a higher point bonus, cost less to activate, etc.

Anyway, it's damn fun and well worth $1. I've managed to beat 25 levels with roughly 63000 points so far.

I played this another few times and can't beat my already posted high score. I did upgrade two of my items, though. I haven't wasted any coins on continuing (via the elixir), so I don't know if continuing maintains your current score. Probably, since some of the scores on the leaderboard are very high.

So it is a Skylanders version of Fruit Ninja basically??? Thanks Zing!!!
Pretty cool, and at least another new thing to do with our figures!

It's a lot more fun than Fruit Ninja. You aren't "slicing" the enemies, but you do drag your finger around to target multiples before shooting. You earn more points and coins for shooting more enemies at once. You must avoid bombs while targeting, or your game is over. Also the enemies shoot at you, but you can shoot their bullets out of the air.

I haven't noticed any difference for using different Skylanders. They all seem to perform the same.

So I guess this is actually an iphone game and not a universal (one that you don't have to zoom in on the ipad) app?

As I mentioned in this thread already, it is universal.

Just played again for almost an hour. It's still fun. Water is the element of the day, so I unlocked Slam Bam and Gil Grunt for now. I managed to get to level 35 or so with a score of 145000+. I'm currently the #4 high score of "all time" on the leaderboards. Although I suspect that may not last once the game is widely released.

but is it a universal game? just kidding sounds like fun, if we ever get it...

Yah, only played a few times ....well like 6-7 times haha but it can get pretty addicting too.

I hope it comes out in Australia soon.

I noticed that the game leaderboard tells you how many players have played the game. It was only at 127 last night.

I really wish this game allowed you to have different profiles. I am rank 16 now, but I'd like my daughter to be able to start from scratch with her own collection. I tried creating and using her own game center profile, but it made no difference. Maybe I will contact activision and see what they say.

No, I wish Activision would announce something

It needs to be approved by Apple before it will appear in the app store. Canadian app store may have fewer applications, so it was approved more quickly.

Will it be on the kindle fire app store?

It is iOS only, and very likely to stay that way.

Still no release of this for the US? I wonder why they only released to Canada.
