I doubt we will see it on PC unfortunately...
Skylanders Spyro's Adventure - sales to date Wii 1.29 million PS3 .39 million Xbox360 .45 million 3DS .20 million PC .02 million! (yikes) from http://www.vgchartz.com/game/5...yros-adventure/ |

Yeah that's because this isn't really all that appealing to the p.c. gamer crowd. Plus it was just a crappy Wii port anyway. I own it because I do most of my gaming on the p.c. but man is the p.c. port horrible. |

I think PC may still happen.
To use an analogy, making the port to PC is like reality tv, it would not take much time, effort or collateral. I reckon they will simply make a small number, cognisant of the prior poor sales. The distribution channel is the same so no extra cost there. The only limiting factor is stores not prepared to provide shelf space for it but truth be told, I don't see much shelf space now for the orig.

Porting a game on PC can be complex in fact

Plus all those people who have been hacking the PC version =/ Activision prob. wont be doing another PC version again after that....
Does anyone know if the 3DS game is going to be different then the normal consol versions? Like Adventures had?? it would def. make the game worth buying then, besides just for the "exclusive" figures im sure they'll have for it lol

Given that they did a direct port and did not customise/optimise for PC, no it is not hard at all. The generic framework does most of it and most game development is actually done on a PC using an emulator. I have done my hard yards in the biz and still have acquaintances who do (too lowly paid for my liking).

Well the hard part on the port on PC are the controllers (compatibility), the performance as well.

The framework provides an interface layer to the controllers so the API is consistent.
Performance? Even a moderate PC has power beyond a console, let alone the bottom end of the range like a Wii.

For the controllers it's not as easy as that seriously.
Some may crash the game, some may have sluggish controls, some may even creates lags in the game... pretty weird but yeah... =/ |

No, seriously, it is that easy.
The PC controllers all conform to a consistent API based on their drivers. The framework understands how to map that API to a consistent API for controller for any system. Trust me on this, I spent quite a few years as a dev in the gaming industry making these frameworks. With richer DirectX and other underlying layers, the job got simpler, not more difficult after I left (based on discussions with people still in the biz). If a controller has a crap driver which causes issue, then it is a driver issue, not a framework issue and resolved by the controller dev, not the game dev. The only time game dev go to any real effort nowadays as for video and to optimise for that based on certain vid drivers. However, that was not the case for SL as they did a simple Wii port and no optimisation at all.

Well, I'll push further.
A video card can crash a whole game, a sound card can be incompatible. Doing a PC port requires to switch pieces and figure what doesn't work. Yeah, at this point the game is done, as the level are complete, the characters are done and all, but the hardware issues require a lot of work and it's quite time consuming. Less than the rest of the game, sure, but still requires a lot of time, unless you don't really care about the result. |

There is only a limited set of video/audio/controllers supported by any PC game.
That said, they all conform to the same base API subset on the integration side of the fence. Most video drivers are actually now quite universal for a range of cards by that manufacturer. DirectX now does most of the legwork and provides a secondary overlay of a greater API suite. If a driver is crap than the driver dev is informed and they fix it is they want to be in the supported list. SL does not push any boundaries in terms of video or audio so runs low risk of pushing any driver beyond the base, common API. I'm going to stop now as we have completely de-railed the topic; if you don't believe me, then that is fine but my 20+ years of commercial IT experience is there and I spent a fair chunk of that in the graphics and gaming industry. I got to the point where I was asked to lecture at an institute which specialised in degrees for the graphics and gaming industry.

I agree, I mean, think about all the people who have the PC version. If there isn't a PC version they will all at the very least have to get the with portal version of the game, because their portal will be for the PC, even tho they aleady have one. And all the people who don't have a console more advanced tha PS2 and the such (like me) would have to get a whole new console. If there wasn't a PC version I would not get this game. End of story.
