Wouldn't it be awesome if you could play as the new Giants in the original Skylanders game (I know it proably won't happen, but it's a good idea though)?

Would be interesting, but they don't work that way. These characters are MUCH bigger than their previous counterparts, so if there was somewhere in a level where you had to walk under something (like a gate) you wouldn't be able to.

Maybe they'll have a few retro levels, or depending on how long this game takes place after the original, the ability to go to the areas and see what effect time has had on them.

Only if they have the same chip in them, they'd probably work.

The way I see it, they're re-releasing old ones with a new sculpt to signify some difference in them. Maybe it's just for money, but I'd hope it was at least so that there was some change in the way the character played, like new powers or something.

I don't think they can work, remember that the content is already in the game, it is unlocked by the figure, not implemented in the game by the figure.

I'm not a big fan of the whole "boob" thing, but I find it funny I saw some fan art someone had made of Cynder with massive ones because they kept getting people who complained about her look in another picture they did

Hey, at least the new game is backwards compatible with the older skylanders! =D now we can use them, the new skylanders, and the giants!
