Gamestop just raised their price on singles! [CLOSED]

Yesterday the prices for single characters on Gamestop.com were the suggested retail price of $7.99. Today I look and they've pulled a TRU and are now charging $9.99! I guess they feel that since they are finally getting some in stock that they can just start charging more. What a bunch of BS!

Thankfully they did this with only a few left to collect, because GameStop has actually been one of the better sources of recent figures. No fun for the late adopters though...

I feel sad for those who didn't get their figures early
The only reason I have all my figures is mostly because I got them early when there was no constant empty selves

Same here. We got our collection back when Legendary packs flowed like water, and even Hex/Dino Rang/Wrecking Ball were unheard of. That really was the time to do it. Any early adopter could've told you what would happen with these at Christmas, though. It was just "in the air," if that makes any sense. A craze waiting to happen.

Yeah. I got pretty much all of my Skylanders before Christmas. It was about five or six days before Christmas that the alarm bells started ringing, because that was when all you could find in stores was Boomer, and I thought to myself, "uh oh".

Sad that Activision won't do something about this. Parents will get turned off by this with later waves and the sequel.

Activision needs to step in and force stores to stick to their MSRP.

Sadly, they're just adding fuel to the fire with all these sales. Target, Best Buy, GameStop... each has had it for just $50 at some point in the last week or two, and people clean them out at that price, leading to even more frustrated customers who can't find figures.

That is 100% illegal and even suggestions or discussion from Activision to Toys R Us (or another other retailer) about $9.99 versus $7.99 is illegal and would likely be highly punished by the FTC.

Didn't I see somewhere that GS raised their price to match TRU? If that were true, and someone high up within GS said that, then its price fixing and that would cause problems.

Right now, Target, best buy, and walmart are still at the $8 price. Vote with your wallet and purchase the figures, and other things, at other stores. Nothing changes a retail chain faster than all the consumers voting against that chain.

TRU does this with a lot of things, including action figures and Legos. And they wonder why they can't compete with Target and Wal-Mart.

You can't force a business to sell it for the MSRP. They MAY have MAP prices where you can't sell below a certain price, but the stores can sell as high as they want.

I just want to point something out, though...

...won't we all buy the characters we need when and where we find them as long as the price is reasonable? I mean, two dollars more isn't that bad, really.

I wouldn't pay more than 15 dollars for one fig, but that would only be if it was a fig I really wanted and had no luck finding him first, so I do understand being frustrated at the markup.

Honestly, I have too many games to play to get too bent out of shape if I can't find another Skylander. I still haven't fully leveled / upgraded the ones I have. Wrecking Ball is such a chore...

I think Toys for Bob might raise the retail price from $7.99 to $9.99 for everyone because of the games popularity. Even with the $9.99 price tag, I don't think it's that expansive especially for a well detailed figure with electronics inside of it. Pokemon figurines and many other similar toys and figures are smaller than Skylanders and cost the same price but don't include something like a "chip" or electronic device inside. I don't mind paying $9.99 for a single pack but I wouldn't pay more than $15.99 for one.

Edit: That's funny CopiousTurtle, we both typed up a similar post at almost the same time.

That's pretty funny, OpalOsprey. I hope Activision reps don't read these posts. We might be responsible for the next price hike!
