The dog chewed up my daughter's favorite Skylander (Zap), which is one of our most built up characters. So my wife picked up a new Zap, but of course, the new Zap starts completely over with no skill. The base of the chewed up Zap is fine - Zap still works, albeit he's a chewed up mess of a toy. Anyone have any experience switching out the chip? Any way to pop the old one off it's base and attach it to the new Zap figure?

You can pick the other path anyways by just resetting the toy. When you go to its stats you can just go to the last page and click on reset.

You can grind them up pretty quick actually.

I would suggest trying to get the toys off their bases by use of either some good glue remover, a sharp knife, or both (whichever works), and then superglue the new Zap onto the old Zap's base. That's probably going to be your best bet if you don't want to have to level him up again.

Instead of popping off the chip, just go for swapping the figure. You can use a small exacto knife and carefully cut his feet.

But you're probably better off just leveling the new Zap.
