Which type of Spyro flying do you prefer? Gliding (From original Spyro Games) or Free Fly (Dawn of the Dragon type Flying)?
I personally prefer Gliding because it is fun and challenging.

I prefer gliding. It's more challenging and fun.
DotD wasn't even complete free flight; you only flew a good 4 inches off the ground.

I prefer gliding. I've always found the free flight in DotD really hard to control. That is one of the reasons why DotD is my least favourite game.

The 'free flight' in DotD is exaggerated by fans. You're only flying 2 inches off the ground.

Gliding is a lot more exciting, especially when you have to hover sometimes, it just makes it a lot more challenging. The so called 'free flight' in DOTD was pretty much a useless gimmick. The only thing that was pretty cool about the ability is to boost forward, that's the only satisfaction I get from it.

JUST IN CASE PEOPLE ARE CONFUSED:

I wasn't referring to the flight boosh in DotD.

Blast effect is also awesome.

Gliding, it was so much more fun. And like others have said, much more challenging. I miss the days when falling off a cliff led your character to their doom - Nowadays, some games are so easy to beat because falling off is something you never have to worry about.

Free flight would be a lot better if you could actually use it properly in DotD.

Free flight sucks when you're going out on ledges and instantly fall into lower platforms. >:c
Or at least I think that's what happened in Dawn of the Dragon.

Either way; I like gliding more. It's a lot funner and more challenging.

I prefer more the flight of the original games, bone, planning, is better because you get away, it is easier to control, although it is just bad planning and not to fly.
But because the flight mode is horrible DOTD is because:
Unlike other Spyro games, in this, Cynder and Spyro is chained that prevents one can fly much higher.
Because the plan of the original games, Spyro is not chained to anything or anyone, it is only with the control.
Advantage of the original games: Spyro is not chained
DOTD Disadvantage: Spyro and Cynder are chained.

Now, free flying can be very fun. Gliding can be very fun and add to platforming. The problem is it's all only fun if it's done right.

Yes me too.I love gliding across that area too.
I hated the so called free flight(Restricted flight) in DOTD I found the controls awkward and it was pretty much pointless.
Most of the time(from memory) was actually climbing up and down the vines which was equally as dull and boring with swinging the chain and making the other character fly/jump to the edge.In DOTD the flight restrictions were a pain...

I loved the freedom of gliding from platform to platform in the original games more and more challenging(Especially in Spyro 1 where timing your landing(fall) was harder without the hover which of course was later put in Spyro 2 and 3).
Then again in SSA Spyro's flight is only like 2 inches off the surface as well and doesn't really do a lot either.(correct me if I am wrong have not played it for a few weeks.) 0_o

SSA isn't free flight, either. It's kind of just gliding.
It does increase your speed and armor, though.

Thanks for clearing that up but unlike gliding you can't use it to go across platforms the same way the classics did?
as there's no jump/hop in SSA's console version.
So therefore wouldn't it be considered a restricted variation of gliding(but with bonuses regarding speed etc)?

On regarding the original games especially on Spyro 1 when playing these levels I found these the most challenging gliding wise levels such as Alpine Ridge and timing the glide after using the supercharge in Tree Tops(the level I died the most in out of all the Spyro games.)

And actually not. You can't jump freely in Skylanders. Although with flying, you can get across water.

Those games actually had true Free flight. (unlike DotD....)

Free flight in old Spyro, like Gnasty's Loot. DotD lied; that's called hovering. You also do it in Skylanders. Being attached to someone half the time doesn't help, either.

....but now I'm wonderin'. Am I one of the only people who was totes okay with the flying in DotD?

^I was OK with it. It may not of been very free, and not been what I expected, but I found it interesting, and fun at times. I love flying around the Valley of Avalar.

Saying it wasn't complete free flight and saying fans over exaggerate it isn't hating it.

I don't hate it entirely.

What I do hate, however, is the limit you can go. It frustrates me at times >:/

No, really...

I only liked Free Flight in Dawn of the Dragon because I knew how to control it (I had to play the game twice because a friend of mine accidentally deleted my account)

But I DO like gliding better. It's challenging, and I just LOVE LOVE LOVE going 'WEEEEEEEEE' when going off high ledges.
