Is it just me or does American Dragon: Jake Long have a lot in common with the old-school Spyro series? Here are their similarities and differences below:

Similiarities

  • They are both dragon heroes
  • They both have similar personalities
  • Their jobs or responsibilities are the same
  • They were both been called, "dragon-boy" (Sheila the Faun calls Spyro "dragon-boy" while Rose/Huntsgirl calls Jake "dragon-boy")
  • They both have a circle of friends and allies that are a mix of magical creatures and talking animals
  • They both have best friends that act like idiots (Hunter and Arthur P. "Spud" Spudinski)
  • The Dragon Elders and the Dragon Council both have the same jobs or responsibilities
  • Spyro and Jake both have enemies that hated dragons and some of them are dragons that are evil
  • During their adventures, they use magical items or spells to aid them
  • They are both womanizers or "ladies men".
  • They both have two best friends (Spyro's best buddies are Sparx and Hunter whilst Jake has Trixie Carter and Spud as his best chums)
  • They both have former enemies that betrayed who they are working for (Bianca betrayed the Sorceress when she found out what her mistress is going to do with the baby dragons and Rose/Huntsgirl betrayed the Huntsclan when she realised Jake is the American Dragon)
  • When it comes to the original Spyro series and American Dragon: Jake Long, dragons are usually the good guys and the main characters
  • They are both skillful at some extreme sports, especially skateboarding

Differences

  • Their ages are different
  • Spyro is a purple dragon while Jake is a half-human, half-dragon
  • They obviously live in different universes
  • Jake can fly freely in his dragon form while Spyro needed to use a power-up in order to fly freely or be in speedways/flights or special levels
  • Spyro can't breathe a continous stream of fire in his younger years but Jake can
  • Spyro is capable of using his charge attack but Jake doesn't have this ability
  • Their height and sizes are different
  • Spyro doesn't have any parents and grandparents but Jake has
  • Obviously, their voices aren't the same and different voice actors provided voices for them
  • Spyro isn't the type of guy to be into romance and mushy stuff but Jake is quite the opposite
  • Spyro can use a variety of breath abilities, however Jake can only breathe fire
  • Spyro doesn't speak in hip-hop street slang but Jake does

Just let me know what similarities and differences I'm missing and I'll note them down.

Err, since when was Spyro a ladies-man in the Classic series?

Prysom, I recall, he managed to be unintentional object of interest more than couple of times. If that qalificates, depends on opinions smilie

A ladies-man requires that he go after women, not the other way around. Otherwise, he's just misfortunate.

Depends of the definition. If it was like thou said, thou're right, given the context, definition probably was simple "good at softer gender", then it is like I said.

Hopefully, there should be some episodes on Youtube and it first began on Disney Channel in 2005. There are 2 seasons altogether but I can't remember how many episodes there are. To learn more about it, search for an article about the cartoon on Wikipedia but it's not always right.

About 52 episodes between 2005 and 2007.

I've already watched every single episode so I already knew what happened. Maybe I need to watch them again to give me the motivation to continue with my Spyro/American Dragon: Jake Long fanfiction crossover.

It's a cartoon series. Still a series.

Not really. They aren't really similar in personality by much.

Spyro isn't really. Sure,Elora and Ember liked him but he like neither(or at least he showed no liking for either).

Quote:

Sure,Spyro rode on a skateboard in a few games but that doesn't make him skillful at it. It depends on the skill of the person playing the game. So you can't really say he's 'skillful'.

Spyro only rode a skateboard I think about three times in Year of the Dragon, I'm pretty sure that's the only game where he can ride a skateboard.
