Just wanted to say hi - I've been lurking for a while and I figured I'd register. I'm not much of a forum person but feel free to drop a message if you'd like.

I collect Spyro stuff: the games, toys, posters, plushies - pretty much anything Spyro related. Thought some of you might be interested in seeing some newer additions I've added.

A game writer/journalist emailed me asking if I'd be interested in buying some press kits and some other promotional stuff from the first and second game that Sony sent him. Thinking it was 1998 or 1999 when they sent it to him.

What's included are these:
Press kit for Spyro 1 (glossy manilla type folder with the game cover printed on the front).
Inside are Sony letterhead papers giving much detail on the game and whole franchise. Talks about how the franchise is changing gaming today (in 1998), gives a bio for Vivendi, Sony and a bio for each employee at Insomniac. Even has a how to play sheet with the controls on it, haha.
Also includes three projector slides: one of the game cover and the others of gameplay.

Press kit for Spyro 2 (same as the first one but without slides).
It did include, however, a glass orb paperweight about the size of a baseball.
Also came with a puzzle in a tin can which when assembled, is of the game's front cover.

Editor's poster for use in magazine publishing.

Coming soon poster (in 1998!).

Here's some pictures:

The press kits and the slides from the first kit with the literature in the back.

Those I think are the coolest items in my collection thus far.

Still got a bunch of other stuff I just never got around to putting on my web site. I've been working here and there on making a whole new website and I hope soon I can get that and my newer stuff online.

Hope you guys and gals thought this was interesting.

Let me know if you've questions

By the way my site is:
http://download.lavadomefive.com/members/adjeca

It's severely outdated but check it out if you like.

Wow, that's all really awesome stuff! It was your site that inspired me to expand my own collection (which is centered mostly around the classic Insomniac games). smilie

Here's an odd question (but of course I had to ask smilie): do you have anything that mentions Elora the faun in your collection (besides the games and strategy guides themselves)? I'm always eager to dig up any new info on her. smilie

Hiyya again Adjeca! smilie So nice to see the new items for your collection, these are truely amazing! I think my favorite one is the puzzle, that one's just so amazing. smilie I can't wait to see the other items you have!

Unfortunately Razz, I've found no mention of Elora or of any fauns for that matter. smilie

That would have been really cool if there were toys and plushies and such. The only thing they really made of another character besides cards and the like (which was when the handheld games came out) that I know of was Sparx.

It's a shame, I thought Elora was a really well made character.

Thanks so much for looking for me. smilie I didn't figure there would be anything, but I couldn't call myself a creepy faun stalker if I didn't ask. smilie I still count myself lucky to have talked to her designer and held the original concept art, if nothing else. And, thanks to you, I learned about the Japanese copies of the first two games and the strategy guide, all three of which I happily now own. smilie

I love that orb paperweight. I wish I had one. I only have a boring, normal orb paperweight. smilie

Awesome. smilie

I have a Spyro the Dragon press kit too, but it's different and not as good as yours. Mine is a box that comes with a leaflet about the game, a blank CD and a cardboard cutout of Spyro. If you like, I'll take some pics of it and post them here later.

Yeah!

I'd really like to see what it is you have, it doesn't sound familiar to me at all.

Oh I've seen that before. My journalist friend mentioned it to me too.

Thanks so much for this, would you mind I include that on my new site? I'd give credit of course. I want to make it sort of a museum.

Yeah, I guess since it's Spyro. Dunno really yet if I care to collect much further than that. I've been collecting stuff for a while now and the series honestly isn't interesting to me these days.

You might want to just collect the Spyro-specific Skylanders stuff, Adjeca, since there's already a ton of Skylanders stuff in existence. Having it all could be too much.

#31 Posted: 20:10:55 23/09/2011
Probably. Plus, some of the original Japanese artwork and stuff for Spyro 1-2 can still be found on Amazon.

#32 Posted: 20:37:03 23/09/2011
Really? I've looked all over Amazon and never seen anything from the limited release of Spyro inJapan (I've got my guides and games through eBay and import sites).

#33 Posted: 20:46:28 23/09/2011
I found tons of stuff. Both spyro 1 and 2 Japanese, a Japanese PS1, and also most of the artwork and booklets.

If you type your search terms in English, you won't get far. You need to use kanji. An example is:

スパイロXスパークスとんでもツアーズ (SpyroxSparx Tondemo Tours)

or

スパイロドラゴン (Spyro the dragon)

Put this into google, and you should get a relevant result. And a correct one. Use something like Google translate to get the kanji, play around with the terms you are making the kanji for, and you should be able to find some of the Japanese artwork.

That's fair enough. I wish you the best of luck with your collection though smilie

Oh, and Prysom has the right of it. The Japanese strategy guides, for me, are actually quite common where I search.

Ooo, thanks for the tips (and the kanji) Pryson! It's possible some of the art is from a second guidebook I found for Spyro 1 (I'll know when it arrives, I guess smilie).

Well, so far, I've got both Spyro 1 and 2, two guides for Spyro 1, and a guide for Spyro 2 in Japanese. I know they never released Spyro 3 over there and I'm not interested in anything past that anyway (unless there's some bizarre Teena, Sheila, Bianca, Gaul, or Cynder stuff that they got and we all somehow missed it smilie). Am I missing anything fun from the Insomniac era? Heck, does anyone know if there were guides in other languages besides English and Japanese that are different from the American ones? (I don't collect much, but I am addicted to strategy guides, especially for games I really love.)

If you were born in 1998 you would just be baby and not even know anything about Spyro until a lot later on, lol. Maybe if you were born in 1988, you would have been ten by the time it came out.

Spyro was voiced by an actress in Japan. The Japanese though it seemed more fitting for the atmosphere of a children's game.

There's a couple of magazines, which I was told have artwork not featured in the official guides in Japan, though they're difficult to obtain. They also released a plush toy and a plush baseball cap, but they're insanely difficult to find :x

Aside from that, I don't believe there is (from Insomniac-era, anyway).
