Something I noticed about most of Malefor's statues... [CLOSED]

So I replayed ANB a while ago and then replayed TEN. Didn't pay much attention to anything in ANB, but I noticed something in TEN.

There's... a pair of eggs at his feet?

I never noticed this before a few days ago, and never in DotD or ANB if it was there. I suppose the eggs are there to symbolize Spyro and Cynder's eggs?

It could symbolize them (since we are never told anything about that vague, stupid prophecy beyond that it exists). It might also be a clue as to what he did in the past that got him banished, or the explanation for why eggs are guarded at the temple instead of a reasonable place.

Or a mistake in graphical design.

#7 Posted: 11:20:36 15/04/2011
Yeah, that could be it. In the game, it looks like he's got a pair of eggs, but in the concept art it just looks like rocks at his feet.

It's possible that, since that specific statue is in the Mountain Fortress, the apes added in that detail at his demand. Bah, there I go putting in plot hole filler when it's like trying to fill a Florida sink hole with a few spoonfuls of sand!

Well I saw that. I'm in the topic. xD

Graphical errors like that exist in all types of games, even when the game has no plotholes.

In the concept art, the 'rocks' look too round to be rocks.

The picture I took was of the left statue in the dream world. It was in every single dream, and on the TEN temple's statue. The big giant statue you see of Malefor just before battling Gaul doesn't appear to have the eggs (plus it's a totally different design in general).

However, the dojo statue does. It's really hard to see in gameplay because the thing is so big though.

Well, I'll be... *shrug* I guess the idea that they represent Spyro and Cynder's eggs is probably the best one there is. Maybe the statue is a reminder of the prophecy (though it's tough to guess that since, according to DotD, when the temple was built Malefor was still in power among the dragon realms; granted, it's a pretty good idea to just ignore DotD's contribution to the story of LoS since it was so contradictory in so many places).

They could have also built the statue later on, Razz.

And actually, it does appear the concept art has three eggs. The one between his front legs, the one under his belly, and another right next to his belly, but showing less. That last one could definitely just be a lazy foot though.

The fact that the statue's eggs in the temple could be a representation of the job the guardians have. Or it could be that Malefor once took care of eggs himself.

The fact that the statue of Malefor at MT. Malefor didn't have eggs could be because the apes didn't want their master looking like an egg sitter. The apes wanted him looking powerful.

It's a possibility, but that doesn't quite make sense. Why would a statue of Malefor be built after he had betrayed the dragons? I knew from TEN onward that the temple Statue was him, and DotD has him take over the place. That implies that this was his temple from long ago, which means the statue was built before he went really nasty.

Doing something bad to eggs he'd been tasked to care for would be a good reason for him to be banished, though.

I wondered that in an episode of American Dragon: Jake Long, and Jake's father explained to him that the training room they were in (though it didn't have statues that went into the ground) had statues of all the dragons' enemies as a reminder of why they trained. Kinda makes sense in this, too, I think. Plus, as a purple dragon of immense power... wouldn't you wanna remember that could pluck you out of the sky? (Or stupidly rear up and fly away, either one. -.-; )

Though, Malefor being an egg guardian makes a lot of sense since he'd have been more powerful than the other dragons. Perhaps when the next purple dragon's egg was laid, he destroyed it, and also destroyed eggs that were laid at the same time.

Is it possible that Malefor is Spyro's father and one of those eggs is Spyro's egg?

Anyway, I didn't even know they were THAT round. I always thought they were rocks they left as decoration for the statue.

No, no it's not. Purple dragons are only born, at most, every 10 generations according to Ignitus (ANsmilie. According to the rest of the games, he was dead/trapped in the spirit world for a thousand+ years before Spyro was born and remained so until Spyro blundered into a plot convenience and set him free.

For one thing, if Malefor was Spyro's father, then why was he having people breaking into a nursery to try and destroy all the eggs, including Spyro's?

The eggs at Malefor's statue's feet symbolize Malefor's need to destroy Spyro's egg and to use Cynder's egg as part of his plot to escape Convexity.

For some reason this gives me the idea that if Malefor had Spyro and Cynder's egg he could literally make them his minions and crush the world.

I do believe it is potentially a subtle symbolic reminder of the prophecy throughout the game.

I haven't noticed it before however.

the eggs are symbolic for Spyro and Cynders eggs. one egg he needs to be free (Cynder), one egg he needs to destroy to keep it that way (Spyro).

i actually have no idea. i think that what was supposed to happen was if he destroyed spyro's egg before it's hatching, and cynder stayed corrupted that she'd be strong enough to free him. but that's just a guess

No, not his toes, you can see an egg right next to his foot in the 3rd pic (post9), and between his leg s in the 1st pic (post1). I think he has eggs because when he was good he was supposed to be a great hero, and a big part of a hero's job is protecting the young.

Unrelated question: Why do they have a statue of Malefor sitting in the temple even though he turned evil and tried to kill everyone? Just didn't have time to remove it between fighting and trying not to be killed maybe?

The implication from DotD is that the temple was a temple to Malefor himself. The implication from ANB/TEN is that the dragons have forgotten their own history since it's been so long since Malefor was alive and took up residence in what they thought to be a holy place.

well if you listen to the story that ignitus tells, it seems that they didn't have much time between malefor's turning (to darkness) and the beginning of the war. they were probably far too wrapped up in the war to consider taking down the statue.
